Cooker, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine etc in kitchen, plus all those extras you need to be a good cook!!

Very quiet rural location , country lane walks, dozens of restaurants all rural and drive-able. Food shop - 10 minutes at Le Fleix, and 12 mins Ste Foy Le Grande, on the Dordogne - [one of the best markets in France on a Saturday!!!).

Bergerac airport 18 kilometres. Bordeaux 40 kilometres. Dordogne river 4 kms. Canoeing on Dordogne at Le Fleix

Situated in the village of Monfaucon with south facing views over vineyards and woods. This detached 200 yr old stone cottage with beams and fireplace is furnished and equipped to a high standard offering spacious accommodation for 9 people. The cottage benefits from full oil fired central heating and is thus suitable for off-season holidays.

It has 4 bedrooms, -[1] with double bed with en-suite shower room and basin, shaver point, mirror. - [2] with two single beds and cot , -[3] with double bed with full en-suite bathroom wc , basin, shaver point, dressing table area, -[4] has a double bed and a single bed - french doors to front terrace.

Linen and towels are provided.

Outside, the cottage is surrounded by mature gardens with walnut and acacia trees providing shade and areas for al fresco dining, sun terrace and new salt pool which has a cover for safety, Patio furniture, sunloungers and BBQ.

Notes:
The detached and secluded cottage is situated in quiet & tranquil area. Large garden with trees, shrubs and flowers. Sunny terrace in front of cottage leading to extensive lawn. Table, chairs, loungers & BBQ. Gardener cuts the lawns when necessary and cleaner cleans on changeover days [Saturday], sheets & towels changed every Saturday. Changeover days are Saturday and you can check in at about 18.00. Check out however is not until 15.00.

charming house, but practical only for families

We visited in September 2014; we were just four women. The occasion was my epileptic and learning-disabled sister's annual holiday of 8 days and it was very carefully planned - her carer came with her to look after her and a friend of mine came to help.

The house has considerable charm but we feel people should be advised of a number of practical problem. In several respects the website entry is not accurate.

We had a lot of plumbing problems. The separate loo in the corridor blocked on ordinary use and we were told it is so old it cannot be repaired. We had to manage without this for 5 days. This meant my sister needed to use someone else's bathroom, very inconvenient at night. The basin stopper in the first shower room caused that to block - but that was temporarily repaired.

We had no hot water for two days; the plumber came and said the boiler needed servicing. It broke down again but he had shown us how to restart it. It was worryingly smelly.

Tradesmen were promptly called when we reported faults and they did come but we had to wait in for the plumber and then the drains man and then we were told someone would come to service the boiler. When we complained about these problems we were told that we were lucky that people were prepared to come out and solve them during "this time of year."

The arrangement of bedrooms and bathrooms is quirky. The first bedroom has a shower room with a basin but no loo - the loo is in the corridor but that is the one which cannot be used. The two twin bedroom has access only to the shower room at the other end of the corridor, next to the utility room, which it shares with the fourth bedroom beyond the utility room. The only room which has full en suite facilities (bath only) is the third bedroom, which is very small. The fourth bedroom's shower has the utility room (which has its own outside door) between it and the bedroom. A plan would have made all this clear.

The internal walls of the back extension which contain the bedrooms are so thin that one can hear clearly from room to room and a cough can be heard two rooms away - so the house is really only suitable for family use.

It is peaceful except for one factor beyond the control of the owner. The next door garden has two dogs who whine or bark a lot; they kept us awake at times.

The kitchen equipment and units all need replacing so it is not pleasant to cook in.

The pool was lovely; there were no complaints about that.

A relaxing home from home (with lots of sun!)

What a wonderful holiday we all had. The cottage was just as we hoped it would be - but better. It really was a quaint French cottage but it had all the amenities that we needed.

The cottage was spotless on arrival and the garden was very well maintained with a priceless view over the fields from the terrace and front door. The perfect spot for some of the most beautiful sunsets we have seen for a long while.

The location was perfect too. Close to Bergerac, 60 miles from Bordeaux but in a village where we could shut ourselves away from the hustle and bustle of life if we wanted to.

We would absolutely recommend this cottage to anyone planning a holiday to this region especially as the gardener assured us that in 2008 there will be a pool as well.

We will be back!

Some 20 kms west of Bergerac on Dordogne river in Perigourde Pourpe, near St Foy Le Grande and Le Fleix 24130. Just off the D20.

3km from the village of Le Fleix,- which caters for most requirements - bakers, butchers, chemist, supermarket, post office, bar, 2 garages. The night markets are held in the months of July and August in St-Foy and neighbouring towns, you can sample 'moules et frites' from the many stalls. Located in easy reach are the historic towns of Bergerac, Périgueux and Sarlat, the city of Bordeaux and the prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies.

Wine Lovers?- Château Monbazillac and the famous vignobles of St Emilion and Bordeaux are a must. The 'bastide' town -Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (10km) offers opportunities to walk along the banks of the Dordogne, try Périgord-style cuisine with its excellent restaurants and visit its bustling Saturday market - one of the best 100 in France .
