About Russell Gillespie

My family and I fell in love with these Lodges when we first came to stay here in May 2014.

Little did we know that such a holiday would turn into such a wonderful life changing experience - that we would end up taking over this established business from the previous owners and continue in their footsteps, all in under a year!

As a family we have always loved the idea of getting away to an idyllic retreat by a lake in the mountains, and we found it here.

As new owners we had to start a new listing with HomeAway. The previous owners had many wonderful reviews from guests who loved their holiday at Glengoulandie.

We look forward to welcoming you to our Lodges, and hope you enjoy the experience just as much as we do!

Our magical holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early evening to find a serene hideaway - a lovely lodge overlooking a lochan with swans and cygnets, ducks and ducklings, swallows, and a herd of young deer on the hillside. The lodge was so spacious, with wonderful solid and comfortable furniture. The 3 bedrooms are in separate areas (ideal with kids!). The large, light seating area had doors to a very safe balcony, and the big bean bag and larger floor cushion left lots of settee space (ideal for big people). Lovely to arrive and find a few cooking supplies plus the necessities for the first evening - milk, bread, and a lovely cake, etc! Also useful - extra cupboard space. Our 5 and 8 yr olds enjoyed Kenmore's playpark, and the Crannog Centre; the play area next to the Country Store (useful). They also loved - the walk up Acharn to the cave, waterfall and hill climb above (play area near car park), and the quieter roads beyond Bridge of Balgie (good tea shop!) for cycling and dam building. The big people enjoyed a wet-suited swim in Loch Tay at Kenmore. A very big thank you to our host and hostess. WE will be back!

Beautiful setting and fantastic lodge

  • 5 of 5

Rainbow lodge was a fantastic, well equipped lodge. The facilities were of a really high standard and the lodge had all of the equipment necessary for a comfortable stay, with lovely homely extras. The 3 ensuite bedrooms are just perfect for a family getaway. The location is so peaceful, with great scenery and wildlife to keep you entertained all day. Nearby Aberfeldy and Kenmore are both pretty and the walks locally are easily accessible. The lodge is excellent value and the owners are so helpful and friendly , giving the whole experience a really personal touch. We will be back as soon as possible!

Beautiful setting.

  • 5 of 5

We had a glorious time at rainbow lodge. Lots of sites to visit on short day trips and we were always glad to come back to the cottage where we enjoyed the view from the cottage deck. We were welcomed back by the swans, Canada geese and ducks. (might have been because we fed them on demand). The cottage was perfect for the family get together, and we appreciated the welcome supplies that Russell and Sandy left for us. The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious and we would love to return for a future vacation. Thanks for the lovely memories.

Fabulous stay at Rainbow lodge

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was large, comfortable and scrupulously clean on arrival and Russell and Sandy had left some welcome gifts for us (beautiful cake, wine and basic supplies)The setting is just wonderful, right on the edge of the lochan. The nesting swans, geese and ducks provided great entertainment :) Centrally located for many sights and activities. Can highly recommend this holiday lodge.

Beautiful, well situated haven.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Rainbow lodge for a week in April and had a lovely time. We had sunshine and showers but the area was beautiful nevertheless. The lodge is nicely situated on the edge of a small loch and from the balcony you can sit and watch an abundance of wildlife from swans and ducks to deer. The lodge itself is well appointed with modern styling, comfortable beds and powerful showers! The owners were kind enough to leave some welcome gifts of cake and wine and although they were staying next door for the week they were not intrusive but offered good advice on local places to visit and were extremely helpful. The Indian restaurant, Chillies in Aberfeldy was very nice as was the Watermill tearoom. Good local beer can be found at the Aileen Chraggan hotel. Pitlochry is well worth a visit as is the Highland Chocolatier and local scenery around Schiehallion is beautiful. The advertisement for the lodge is accurate and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the lodge to friends, hopefully we will return ourselves in the not too distant future.
