About the property

Stylish Cottage with Breathtaking Views - ideal for Families or Couples

Welcome to Steppes Farm Holiday Cottages near Tintagel in Cornwall.

If you're looking for a luxurious treat then Mother Goose Cottage is where you need to be :o))) Granted a 5* Gold Award by Visit Britain, Mother Goose Cottage has the most beautiful views - on a clear day from the master bedroom you will be able to see the sea shimmering on the horizon.

Set in an almost secret valley on the edge of Bodmin Moor – but only 10 minutes from civilisation. Mother Goose Cottage is a fabulous light and airy barn conversion only 7m from the beach.

There is the added bonus of a hot tub and sauna :o)) Ideal to unwind and let those cares drift away. Our water is from our own spring and it's delicious.

Steppes Farm has a magical caring atmosphere that you notice the moment you arrive. It is a pleasure living here and we are delighted to share our home with you guys, who I hope will enjoy it as much as we do ! We love having visitors to stay in the beautiful Cornish countryside of this fabulous part of Britain.

At night the only noises are the hoot of owls and the snuffling of nocturnal wildlife. On clear nights (no light pollution here), the skies are inky black and dotted with a million stars, the most incredible that I have seen anywhere in the world - best viewed from the hot tub – the perfect end to a perfect day x

Bodmin Moor is now a designated International Dark Sky Landscape. The very first classified Dark Sky Park in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Luxurious, light and airy Mother Goose Cottage is where contemporary meets traditional. A hay-barn converted to the highest standard to maximise its charm and comfort - the stunning downstairs bathroom has a fabulous chromotherapy walk-in rainfall shower - admire the wonderful Ash staircase with glass risers, a credit to the local craftsmen who created it. You will fall in love with the large lounge which has a romantic coal burning stove and wonderfully cosy armchairs.

There are two good sized vaulted bedrooms: 1 double and 1 twin. The kitchen/diner has sliding doors leading to a patio which is set in a large enclosed garden - all the equipment you would expect in a kitchen of this quality - cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.

HOT TUB & SAUNA facilities are shared between our 3 cottages. We operate a diary system - you just pop down the time you wish to use the facilities and this ensures your private use.

DURING PEAK TIMES - we try to keep to a Friday changeover. Please do check with us prior to booking - thank you.

FOR SHORT BREAKS - nightly prices shown are for 3 nights, please contact us for 4, 5 & 6 night prices - thank you.

HEATING – is included. For the coal stoves – the first coal scuttle and firelighters are provided free. Refills will be subjected to a charge of £4.50 per large scuttle.

TWO WEEK HOLIDAYS - For guests who wish to book a two-week or more holiday in Mother Goose Cottage a £100.00 cleaning/breakage deposit will be required on arrival. This charge will not apply to our regular/previous guests.

PETS - it is unfortunately not possible for us to have your dogs inside our Cottages. However we are more than happy to have 1 dog by arrangement to stay in our kennel. Our kennel has an indoor sleeping section plus a good sized outdoor run and is close to all Cottages. Of course your dog can be with you in the gardens and grounds, provided he/she is leashed. Charges are £20.00 per dog and should heating be required within the kennel, an additional charge will be made - depending on usage.

About Karen Briggs

My family & I moved here in 2007 to pursue our dream and we know that you will be as pleased with your stay here as we have always been :o))

Our cosy old farm nestles in the hillside, complete with its own natural spring water supply. We have a fantastic location between the stunning rugged coastline of North Cornwall and Bodmin Moor - an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Steppes Farm, in parts, dates back to medieval times. The main farmhouse was a lot smaller then, with a barn and a dairy behind it. These were merged with the farmhouse around the 1970s.

Karen Briggs purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Karen Briggs chose Cornwall

Steppes Farm has all the atmosphere and tradition you could ever hope for. With the added plus of hot tub and sauna :o))))

We are set in 20 acres and surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty. The farmhouse and our 3 luxuriously furnished barn conversions nestle into the countryside, right on the edge of wild and romantic Bodmin Moor - just five miles from the breathtaking Cornish coast. You will find our lovely accommodation in North Cornwall near the towns of Tintagel, Camelford and Boscastle. Polzeath, Rock and all the best beaches are within easy reach.

Poldark, King Arthur, Daphne du Maurier, Agatha Christie, Rosamunde Pilcher - all inspired by the beautiful coastline and countryside on our doorstep and let’s not forget Doc Martin which is filmed at Port Isaac.

What makes this cottage unique

Such a peaceful, tranquil location - an ideal retreat from the outside world. With beautiful views from every angle, which alter with the changing seasons - bliss x

Goose Cottage was a real gem - beautiful house and location

  • 5 of 5

Really lovely hosts, helpful without being intrusive. A beautiful house and garden in a good location. We use self catering properties a lot due to the fact that one of our children has serious food allergies so eating out can be tricky. I have to say this was the best equipped place we have used and was, without doubt, the cleaniest - absolutely spotless! Would definately recommend.

The name of Tintagel immediately conjures images of King Arthur and the legends associated with him. The blackened ruins of Tintagel Castle brood over the coast, but no-one can say for sure whether this was really the place where Uther Pendragon seduced the Queen of Cornwall.

The ruined Norman castle is much more recent than the times of the legend, although there are signs of much earlier settlements. Other legends have it that Camelford has a connection with Camelot and that King Arthur died at Slaughterbridge and his spirit returned to haunt Tintagel. 15 miles away is Dozmary Pool on Bodmin Moor. Legend says this was the last resting place of Excalibur, King Arthur's magical sword. Whatever the truth of the old stories, the coastal scenery is certainly the stuff of legends.

Boscastle - with its medieval past and distinctive natural harbour is one of Cornwall's most romantic places. It is a village steeped in history, associated with authors and artists who have been inspired by its remoteness and rugged beauty. Abundant in wildlife, dramatic walks and historic features.

As you stroll down the long valley to the harbour, passing thickset fishermen's cottages, you'll understand why Boscastle remains one of Cornwall's most romantic places. There's a great selection of shops, galleries, a pottery and the renowned Museum of Witchcraft, too. The area also has a number of gorgeous churches, most dating from Norman times and in such beautiful countryside there are plenty of good walks that start in the village.

Follow the Poldark & Rosamunde Pilcher filming trails. Bring the television adaptations of the books to life by visiting the gorgeous filming locations used.

Bodmin Moor is just 0.75 mile away from Steppes Farm, with Brown Willy and Roughtor being a great attraction for walkers and riders alike. The local Camel Trail is close by and you can hire bikes from Wadebridge.

There are attractions to suit all tastes which include Newquay Sea Life centre, the Eden Project, Boscastle and cosmopolitan Padstow and Rock.
