Guestbook comments from the manager

“Cortijo La Hoya was undoubtedly the loveliest house we have ever stayed in. The Courtyard with its orange trees and the scent of thyme and rosemary was very special…

Our children loved their accommodation with the mural of African desert and the privacy it offered them…... We are left in awe at the energy and vision it required to create such a lovely home.”

Fantastic home for getaway with friends

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at La Hoya with a group of friends including young children. The house was perfectly set up for a group of families and our kids loved the pool. There are multiple outdoor eating areas and the view is unbelievable. The nearby town of Gaucin was fun and its a great base for day trips. Would go back again in a heartbeat!

Blissful and charming retreat

  • 5 of 5

La Hoya is a gorgeous place, complete with charming bedrooms, beautiful views, many quite sitting areas and one stunning pool. We traveled here with friends and children, and all had a fantastic time. The area was quiet and remote, but close to gorgeous villages with enough to entertain us all. Some days we spent entirely at La Hoya, others we ventured out and hurried back for the comforts of home, always spending the afternoon by the pool and dinners together around the outdoor table under the jasmine. Truly a blissful spot.

Exquisite Stay

  • 5 of 5

As a group of sixteen it can be a challenge to find a place that suits everyone's different tastes but Cortijo La Hoya was a real winner for every single member of our party.

From the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere truly special. It's been said before in reviews but the photographs really don't do it justice! The courtyard is stunning, the bedrooms are beautiful, the kitchen and combined living room is the perfect place to relax away from the heat of the midday sun, the pool is exquisite and to top it all off the al fresco dining areas provided an ideal backdrop to late night dinners and parties.

Christopher, Ines and Paco are completely charming and wonderfully helpful - we had not one problem from the day we booked to the moment we left. Thank you all so very much and we look forward to another superb stay in the future!

P.S. Paco's Paella really is the best you will ever taste, don't miss it!

This house is the BEST!

  • 5 of 5

We're a group of childhood friends, spouses and (now) children who've been renting vacation properties together for the past 15 years. We've taken homes everywhere from the Catskills to the French Riviera, and we all agree that... This – house – is – the – BEST! The views are spectacular. The grounds are extensive, filled with flowers and fruit trees. (Wake up to the scent of jasmine, then take your kids on a nature walk through the orchard to show them where their food comes from.) The gourmand groundskeeper, Paco, makes amazing paella and helped source our very own leg of jamon de bellota. The house manager, Ines, will go out of her way to answer your questions and get what you need or assist you in any way. The house itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated without feeling too precious. The kitchen is well equipped, with two ovens and two dishwashers, which makes clean up so much easier. The cooktop/hob can be a bit finicky, but you’ll figure it out or just cook the whole time on the built-in BBQ outside. The rooms are arranged around the courtyard, so everyone has their own private space. The pool is large, has a platform where younger kids can play and a shelf along the edge of the deeper part so you can stand all the way around….and, wow, the view. Nearby “white villages,” like Gaucin and Jimena de la Frontera, are charming and have castles where you can climb on 2000 years of history without any supervision. A little further afield, cities like Ronda, Cadiz and Gibraltar are also worth a visit (though you may want to bring some Dramamine for the winding roads) or go to Africa for a day – ferries to Morocco leave every couple of hours from Tarifa. That said, once you’re at the house, you may never want to leave. And when you must, you’ll be counting the days until you can return. I know I am.

Beautiful house for an idyllic holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house is located in the most gorgeous spot, hidden away from all the hassle of everyday life but remarkably only about an hour's drive from Gibraltar airport. The views are breathtaking and the property is designed to really make the most of them, whether lounging on the lovely terrace, wandering through the extensive gardens or taking a dip in the infinity pool. The house itself is very spacious with lots of different outdoor seating and dining areas, whilst maintaining utter peace and privacy in the bedroom suites - I haven't slept so well for a very long time! It's as easy to find a quiet spot to oneself as it is to hang out with others, making it ideal for a large group. I appreciated all the additional touches - a library of books, DVDs, great sound system, fantastic kitchen (as others have said, very generously equipped for keen cooks and TWO dishwashers so nobody gets lumbered with the washing up). In fact, generous is a word that keeps popping up as I write this - I've rented many holiday properties over the years and this one goes far beyond the norm. It's a stunning house for a wonderful holiday.

Completely recalibrated

  • 5 of 5

La Hoya is so captivating and relaxing that ridiculously some of us didn't even leave the property during our stay. The gardens are clearly a long term labour of love and its hard to do anything other than stare out at the amazing views from various terraces and the pool.

There are numerous areas set up for eating inside and out with a fantastic bbq. The generosity with which the kitchen is equipped makes it an ideal place for those who love to cook and cleaning up made merry by two dishwashers! A really comfortable, enormous airy house - perfect for friends or families.
