We have recently purchased this property, finished renovations and from February 2015 are ready to rent! If you would like to see reviews on our properties please see our 5* reviews on our London flat that we also rent. homeaway.co.uk/p1193734
The property has the advantage of an outside locked gate for the storage of bikes, before entering the front door.
Downstairs consists of a hall and toilet, before entering a wonderful open plan and incredibly airy (due to skylights along half the ceiling) long kitchen, dining and sitting area. Downstairs has an incredibly homely feel, as it is possible to sit on the tractor bar stools and talk to whoever is cooking or just relax on the sofas.
In the summer it is possible to sit on the outside private patio.
On the middle floor is a double bedroom with double bed and a separate single bedroom. Between these bedrooms is a bathroom with large shower.
On the top floor is another double bedroom with an incredibly comfortable king size bed and an en-suite bathroom (with bath).
The whole house has been redecorated in January 2015 with new furniture added.
As the house is a relatively recent conversion, it is well insulated and remains warm through the use of a smart Nest thermostat.
After we had kids we decided to move around and explore other parts of the country and the world - which we are still doing. So we know what it is life looking for an apartment for a family which is central and well furnished and is somewhere you would like to call your own.
Charles Towers-Clark purchased this house in 2014
Cambridge is, in our view, one of the more interesting cities in the world. Where else would you get into a conversation at the local pub with two strangers at the bar as to whether 2 pints of Pegasus are Pegasuses or Pegasi?
Though we travel a lot, we wanted somewhere to call our own which was in an international city and central enough to be able to walk everywhere. This house fitted the bill perfectly.
Location, location, location!
Oh! and we loved the airy downstairs which was so homely. In fact it is the first place my wife has ever called home!
My family and I (2 adults, 3 kids - ages 3, 7, 10) stayed here for three weeks during part of my sabbatical. We had a terrific time and experience. The house is spacious and worked well for sleeping all of us as well as giving us each some space to ourselves.
The location is extremely convenient for the train station as well as the city centre - it was a short walk to Parker's Piece and then beyond to shops, food, the mall, etc. We visited the local Parkside pool with waterslides, the North Pole fair at Parker's piece, the Vue movie theatre (with giant automatic reclining seats), the many museums around, punting, the King's College choir, etc. There was so much to love.
Charles was fantastic to interact with. He was very responsive, friendly, and all-round terrific to have as a host.
We are very satisfied with our stay in this house. The house is big, fully furnished, the location is near the city center, the owner was very helpful. We recommend it 100%.
This house was finished to a high standard. It was in a great central location very comfortable and felt like a home from home.
We had a very pleasant stay in this property. The house was clean, large, comfortable and fully furnished. Very close to the train station and walking distance from the city center too. Definitely recommended.
We stayed for 4 days in this beautful flat. Its location is perfect for the station and to explore Cambridge. The streets around it are buzzing with life, especially Mill Lane where you can find all kinds of small shops and cafés. Tastefully decorated, kitchen well equipped, very warm. Help was always on hand, Charles answered our queries immediately. We recommand this flat and we would definitively go back again.
Incredibly centrally located, Glisson Road runs between Mill Road and Hills Road. Mill Road (which is closer) has a lot of different (including ethnic) restaurants and supermarkets.
Walk across Parkers Piece (a large park in Central Cambridge) and you are amongst the Cambridge colleges (5 - 10 minutes walk).
On the other side of Mills Road is Anglia Polytechnic University and beyond that the shopping facilities of the Grafton Center (again only 5 - 10 mins away).
Apart from the smaller supermarkets on Mill Road, there is also a Tesco Express and Co-Op on Hills Road at the other end of Glisson Road. The nearest large supermarket is Asda is the Betree Center (about a 15 min walk or less by bike!).
Addenbrookes Hospital is 2 miles or 9 minute drive.
As all of the housing around the colleges is owned by the colleges for students - this is as close as one can be without staying in a college itself!
