Chalet Uhu is a beautiful, spacious chalet situated in a tranquil area of Saas-Fee, close to the village centre, its amenities and the slopes. It is a modern chalet, over 200m2, but full of rustic charm.
Master bedroom suite with reclaimed wooden wall, wood burning fire, en-suite slate bathroom with whirlpool bath. Two further spacious double bedrooms, one with generous en-suite and one with use of family bathroom. One bunkroom (4 bunks) and additional shower room on ground floor. Boot room with ski boot warmers.
Fabulous top floor living area with kitchen, open plan dining and living area with large wood-burning fire. Wonderful views to the Mischabel, Almergellerhorn and back down the valley. South facing balcony.
Basement den for kids with TV/DVD and 3 additional beds. Kitchenette/utility room in basement with washing machine and tumble dryer. Additional WC.
Wifi and cable TV (European/UK channels).

Chalet Uhu in Saas Fee is a beautiful, luxurious house in modern alpine style but needs much better upkeep. The average side table has a loose leg, one of the sofa chairs has ripped covers. Many sinks and showers (which are of high quality to start with), drain poorly. The completely clogged master shower was fixed after we requested it. The kitchen utensil supply is sparse. A prior reviewer had mentioned dull knives. I requested the knives to be sharpened prior to our arrival which did not happen.
The service provided by Alpine Retreats (the local rental agency) is nearly non existent. They offer to arrange for a taxi which can be more conveniently accomplished without their help, as you don't have to give the local taxi outfit a one day notice.
In Saas Fee every rental gets provided a Buergerpass which is a discount card and proof of payment for the lodging tax. Usually it is handed to the guest upon arrival. We had to call Alpine Retreats and retrieve it at their office.
We stayed for two weeks and had the experience with prior rentals that someone would come and change the sheets after the first week. Not so with chalet Uhu and alpine retreats.
This chalet requires professional management and can easily be brought up to five star standards with a little preventative maintenance and effort. We
Thanks a lot for giving unforgettable memorIes to my family. We enjoyed your place so much it was difficult to leave it. Even if a little bit away from the center, having got used very quickly to the bus plan, it was not an issue at all. Very well equipped, very bright, we all loved it.
Der Aufenthalt in diesem schönen und geräumigen Châlet war wirklich top, was wir bei diesem hohen Mietpreis auch erwartet hatten. Neben vielen positiven Aspekten wie z.B. dem ausreichend verfügbaren Brennholz für's Cheminée u.v.m. gab es aber auch zwei, drei Negativpunkte: Das Bett in einem Doppelzimmer war kaputt, was den Verwalter herzlich wenig gekümmert hat. Scharfe Messer gibts in der Küche auch keine. Aber eben: Jammern auf hohem Niveau!
Saas-Fee boasts all year round skiing thanks to its glacier on the higher slopes which virtually guarantees skiing in the winter months. Other winter activities include cross-country skiing, tobogganing (on a ski-free mountain), winter walking routes, curling and ice hockey.
In summer the main activity is hiking with dozens of walks for all abilities ranging from high-level alpine treks to short loops around the village, the charming 'chapel' walk and hikes through the forest (2 minutes from Chalet Uhu). There is also mountain-biking, scooter hire for descending the toboggan mountain, an adventure zip-wire course (for kids and adults), mini-golf, a roller coaster and tennis.
The chalet is a few minutes' walk to an excellent baker (ideal for fresh bread and croissants in the morning) and is an easy 10 minute walk to the village centre - with shops, supermarkets, ski hire, ski lessons, banks, pharmacy, medical centre etc.
