Spacious 5 bedrooms with 4 full bathrooms spread over 3 levels of 220 square meters, located in the Centre of Horta the Matriz district. Casa Matriz is tastefully decorated in a classic style creating that warm home-like setting that is perfect for group travel. This accommodation facilitates large groups to stay under one roof. Therefore there is no need to rent separate accommodations; Casa Matriz can accommodate groups of up to 10 people comfortably. With Top notch features: all three levels with internet, air cooling and air heating units. A superb gathering area, especially in the massive eats-in kitchen or entertain outdoors in the courtyard complete with wood fire grill and outdoor kitchen.

Over the last several years a popular trend that is see happening in the Tourist industry is group travel particularly from former Azorean descendants who are travelling with their extended family members to retrace their ancestry roots in the Island of Faial.

I was lucky to find the match for this type of niche travel group in Casa da Matriz not only because of its size, but also for its ideal location, in the historical area of Matriz which enables the travelers to immerse themselves into the neighborhood, and absorb the traditions and culture within the city of Horta.

Horta Port of Call: venture a little further, only 10 minute walk will take you to the new Port of Horta where a traveler can take a day trip or Island Hop to the Island of Pico or St. Jorge. Horta City makes an excellent base for travelers to visit other islands. Don’t forget your camera! The Matriz neighborhood is a city Centre residential area full of architectural interest. A traveler can wander the cobble stoned streets and admire many facades of historical buildings, former colonies, former embassies, and government house. Not only the architecture but the culture is fantastic, one only has to visit the nearby Tea House for 3:00 afternoon traditional tea, or visit the fishing area of Porto Pim watch the fishing boats come in with their catch. You will certainly Bump into your own magical surprise! It’s all just around the corner.
