Traditional French House in Beautiful Rural Setting
Set in the beautiful mountainside village of Lapradelle-Puilaurens in the Aude region of South West France, Railsend II is a quaint and traditional holiday property in true French style.
With accommodation for 4-6 guests, a short journey from Perpignan or Carcassone airport by road, and plenty to see and do in the local area, we hope to provide everything you need to enjoy your stay in the south of France!
Railsend II is a 3 bedroom single storey house converted from a farm building, which has been mostly recently renovated to a comfortable standard with stunning views of a nearby mountain and medieval cathar castle (Chateau Puillaurens) perched on top.
The accommodation consists of:
- Two double bedrooms with wardrobes and storage.
- A third rear bedroom with direct access to rear terrace (folding bed so can be used as additional lounge also).
- A large fully equipped dining kitchen with 4 or 6 seater dining table.
- Lounge with TV/DVD (only UK free sat) and folding settee if extra accommodation required.
- One bathroom/WC
As there is only one bathroom, despite there being sleeping for 8 people we would recommend for comfort this is limited to 4/6.
The village of Lapradelle-Puilaurens has a small shop, restaurant and bar.
Supermarkets are a 15 minutes drive in either direction. The nearest town is Quillan with many facilities 15 minutes drive.
Airports Perpignan or Carcassonne are 40 minutes drive in either direction. Mountain resorts 40 minutes drive. Nearest beach 45 minutes drive.
Short drive to Quillan via the stunning Gorge St Martin where you can white water raft/body board, kayak, fish or just enjoy the views. In a short drive (40 mins) you can either be in the Pyraneean Ski resorts (lots to do in summer too) in one direction or at the beautiful Mediteranean coast in the other.
For the more adventurous Spain and the vibrant city of Barcelona is only a couple of hours drive or a trip to the duty free mountain principality of Andorra nearby. The area is renowned for history with Tautauvel man (neandertal), Dinosaur museum, many medieval castles and historic sites all over the area (look up Reenes le Chataux and all the stories about the holy grail).
Also don’t miss a drive to the medieval walled city of Carcassonne (largest intact in Europe) and nearby the Canal du Midi or further afield the Mediteranean fishing port of Sette (home of the bouillbase) or even the beautiful Camarge region (2 hours drive).
The whole area is popular with walkers, hikers, climbers, cyclists (Tour de France sometimes goes through the village) and has lots of markets, great restaurants with local French/Catalan food plus it is the largest wine producing region in France so lots of vineyards to visit and local wines to sample.
