Incredible experience!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was as decribed but even better! Super clean! The owner was so responsive and wonderful to work with for our vacation. We used the apartment as a base for a day trip to Amsterdam and to the beach. We had two sets of keys which was great for our group to go our separate ways but to be together as well. Everything you could need or want is right around the corner from the apartment. We especially like the pass for parking as well as free parking a few blocks away. When we visit again, we're coming back to the Tulip Apartment.

Wonderful, cute, clean Haarlem stay!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is nicely renovated and is a definite favorite of our many rental stays. The kitchen is nice, both beds are comfortable and the little balcony off of the bedroom was lovely. We were happy that we stayed in Haarlem, instead of Amsterdam. Easy access to Amsterdam, but Haarlem is a beautiful town and the apartment neighborhood is peaceful, with plenty of good shops and a nice walk through a park (with a canal) to the main station and central Haarlem. Kiki was awesome to work with and helpful during our stay. Everything was great!!

Happy to have stayed at this lovely apartment

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 6 nights at this very roomy, noteworthy very clean, attractive apartment in a quiet neighborhood, that is located about a 10 minute walk from the train station and bus stop sites. Haarlem is a mid-sized treasure of historical importance rooted in its enormous display of structures built since the sixteenth century.

Upon our arrival, we were met by our very pleasant outgoing host Kiki, who introduced us to the apartment's facilities and provision of kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom supplies, and other such necessities as to assure us a comfortable stay. Around the corner lies a small restaurant that provides an excellent selection of Thai food worthy of ones consideration.

Although at my age (83) the rather steep stairs leading up to the apartment proved to be a challenge to me, as was the rather small bathroom facility, I for the world would not have changed my mind. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at this apartment and the opportunity to have met Kiki.

Great Location in a Peaceful Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The Netherlands was the first stop on our extended Europe trip and we got off to a great start staying here! My husband and I needed a place that was walkable from the train station in a city where we could easily explore other sites. This worked perfectly. In fact, we enjoyed the walk through the park to reach the unit each day so much, that I miss it! This quiet neighborhood was filled with little shops, and felt very safe. We were able to see the everyday life of the locals, which was fun for us. The owner provided everything we could need and was readily available for any of our questions, both before and during our stay. While we never cooked there, the kitchen was beautiful and well furnished. The unit was large and airy, and very clean and comfortable. My favorite part was the little balcony filled with flowers just outside the bedroom doors. It felt so peaceful and inviting. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer to just live the life of a local (instead of only playing "tourist")!

What did we do? Well, we enjoyed exploring central Haarlem, its restaurants, and its lovely historical buildings (about 15-20 minute walk). But we also explored throughout the Netherlands via the train and visited the windmills, the tulip gardens, the Den Haag, Delft as well as the Amsterdam sightseeing. The train into Amsterdam is literally a 10-15 minute walk from the apartment followed by a 15 minute ride. There was a rail/bus pass that we purchased that covered the trains and buses for the greater area.

In summary, I am so glad we stayed in the Haarlem area and specifically this apartment. It suited us well and we have many fond memories of those first days in Europe!

Comfortable, convenient, and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

All arrangements were easy and the apartment was as described. The two of us had all the help and amenities we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Kiki met us and gave us thorough instructions about the apartment and the neighborhood. The cheese shop, produce/deli, and bakery were convenient and delicious!. You can smell the bakery from far away.

We walked from the train station (with directions from Kiki) and it took about 10 minutes. We rented a car while there and were able to park it on the street near the apartment. It was crowded a few times but eventually we found parking. Walking into the center of old town Haarlem was at least 10 minutes. It's an easy and enjoyable walk. We used the bicycles but I lacked confidence with traffic and being unfamiliar with streets I choose to walk when we didn't drive. Being able to do a bit of laundry while there was a real plus.

The stairs are quite steep so I would warn anyone with walking issues to be aware. We are in our seventies and were fine but neither of us has leg or knee problems. The apartment is quite roomy but the bath is small. A large person may have a bit of trouble moving about.

For my husband and I the whole experience was perfect. Kiki and her daughter were very generous with their time and answered all our questions. I would definitely recommend the apartment and working with Kiki.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review Carolyn! The description of the shops makes me hungry... Indeed the stairs are steep, this is typicallly for old dutch houses. We just placed extra handrails on both sides so even guests with a walking problem can manage the stairs. And of course we always offer help with bringing the suitcases up.

Lovely apartment, nicely decorated and furnished.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is just what you need - a good size, well-equipped, cosy in the winter. The bikes are really handy. The area is lovely with a great baker nearby and a cheese shop at the end of the road. It's an easy walk or cycle into town. There's a good restaurant nearby too called Vandesande.

A lovely place to stay with lots of features. To the beach or cycling through the dunes. Strolling through the city, which has been chosen to best shopping city of the Netherlands. A beautiful historic centre with the Market with the Bavo, Frans Hals museum, Teylers museum, canals etc. Not to mention many cosy terraces and dining options. Amsterdam is only 15 min by train. For years, Haarlem has been called ' klein Amsterdam ', but nowadays Amsterdam is called ' large Haarlem '
