Why Ginette Lytton chose Hammersmith

I was born in this area of London. There are great schools around here, and all the amenities you need for a great family life. There is a wonderful sense of community here and many of us have been living around here for many many years. I bought my house round the corner from this Victorian cottage in 1993. The good thing about this area is that because the BBC is nearby, Disney and Coca Cola for example have their headquarters here, there are many interesting and creative people in this neighbourhood with all the theatres, pubs, comedy and music venues to keep you entertained. Also a diverse range of restaurants. Shepherds Bush food market, and Westfield shopping centre - said to be the largest in Europe - is just 10 minutes walk away. Most importantly the transport links into the centre of town and out of town are amazing - you can be at the Houses of Parliament in 20 minutes.

Very convenient house, far from Central London, Need to improve showers/taps

The house is large and comfortable (we were 5 adults), big sitting area, kitchen and nice-oval dining table.

well equipped (need some pots cover though.., and a better faucet in the kitchen sink)

There is no flexible-shower-head in any of the showers, nor any type of 'shower-head' in the bath-tub (thus, completely use-less). English taps (many of them separated hot/cold - very strange system), not all close well.

The third floor has steep stairs .. be ready for the exercise.

It is in a 'suburbs' quite area, almost nothing is close by.. especially most of the places-of-interest

8-9 min walk to ravenscourt-park station,

15 min walk to hammersmith station

(there is a near-by bus that gets to hammersmith.. Google-maps is a big advantage to get along with public transport - one can ride both buses and tube.. (use the oyster-card))

One more advice, as foreigners, we bought a 'pay-as-you-go' SIM (good for 30 days, in most of Europe), in a Tesco store, it has 2GB data,. 500 min/sms...

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. As you say this is a lovely large house in a quiet, safe, family oriented neighbourhood, with lots of space for five or six guests. This you would not find in Piccadilly Circus, London's central point, particularly at this price! We provide all the information on our web page about this spacious home to enable Guests to make an informed choice - either to pay a higher price for a smaller property in a more busy, more central location or to pay less for more space often with a garden and usually a much more attractive property. A 3 bedroom house in Hammersmith is around £260 per night whereas the same quality in Kensington is around £450 per night and upwards. According to googlemaps this home is 6 minutes walk to Ravenscourt park and 12 minutes to walk to Hammersmith tube stations. The nearest gastropub is 2 minutes walk from the house. It is 19 minutes by tube to South Kensington where many museums are located. As you say it is quite normal to have two separate faucets on English taps. There is a separate shower enclosure in the bathroom so you may have a bath or a shower as you prefer. The showers have an adjustable shower head, which is quite normal in a shower. London houses generally have a lot of stairs as they are spread over several floors - again we aim to show as many photos as possible to help Guests decide whether they prefer to stay in a larger independent house or a flat in a shared building. It is a matter of preference. I hope your daughter managed to see all the galleries she wanted to see within her short stay, and you had a happy time in London. Perfect rental - loved this place!

This apartment/townhouse was the perfect space for our family vacation in London. The location worked well for all of our excursions, with two Underground stations within easy walking distance. The house had everything we needed. The beds were extremely comfortable. Ginette was wonderful and shared all kinds of tips with us for visiting the area. The neighborhood was quiet and extremely safe. We can't wait to return here when we visit London again.

Wonderful rental property for family or group

The Lytton agency was great to work with: they gave us plenty of notice when we needed to do something, and Paul met us at the house without any problem and explained everything.

The house itself was wonderful. It was very clean, well-equipped (especially the kitchen which is rare in vacation rentals), and quiet. It has a very nice backyard space with flowers and greenery.

I was initially concerned about the walk to the tube based on Google maps, but once we got there, it was only a few minutes walk and no problem. It does take a bit of time to get into central London, but the tube is easy to use, and it was not an inconvenience. There are also several museums close by so there is much to see and do near the house. The Thames is also an easy walk from the house. There is also bus service very close which goes to Hammersmith Station and an easy transfer to go to downtown.

There are several good places to eat within an easy walk (for breakfast, the St. Anne french bakery on King St. was phenomenal). The owners have a book there with several recommendations, and the ones we tried were very good.

Overall, we were extremely pleased with the property and the management service and would rent from them again.

Roomy house with perfect location

This was a terrific house for 4 adult cousins searching their British roots! The main floor is roomy and comfortable...plenty of living room seating and a fully appointed kitchen with a spacious eating table. The enclosed patio was perfect for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails! The bedrooms are well furnished and a good size, especially the third floor master. Bathrooms on each floor are up to date and the linens soft and plentiful. Though it was very hot during our visit, we were provided with plenty of fans to make for comfortable sleeping. The location worked very well...a 10 minute walk to the tube station or the bustling shops and restaurants. Plenty of onstreet parking as well in this quiet, lovely neighborhood. The communication with the management company was timely and extremely helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better home in London!

Charming stay

We LOVED this cute house. The location was amazing - a short walk to the tube, to a lovely park, to pubs and grocery stores. The house was great and gave our family of 7 some space. The rental agency people we really great- greeting us the day we arrived and answering all of our questions. Would definitely recommend this location and would stay here again in an instant!

Perfect family house

The house was completely equipped in the kitchen, including condiments and all beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms were spotless and lots of fluffy towels for everyone. The living room had plenty of comfy chairs for us to gather and discuss our day, sight seeing in London.

Pretty residential Area minutes from Central London and The River Thames

Brackenbury Village is a select residential area with pretty Victorian houses and retains a real community feel. It has been chosen by Elizabeth Lytton because of its beautiful homes and gardens, excellent transport links, and for the quality amenities nearby.

The area is bordered by food markets, interesting shopping, two fringe theatres – the Lyric and the Bush. If you are in less serious mood there are music and comedy venues – the Hammersmith Apollo and O2 Shepherd’s Bush.

And yet it is only 8 minutes by big red London double decker bus from Kensington High Street - climb up on top if you want the best view of the city.

You can enjoy peace amid the buzz of London and a place for the children to let off steam

in friendly surroundings: walk to nearby Ravenscourt Park, or take a Boris bike ride to the River Thames just 10 minutes away. You may not want to get wet on the outside so wet your whistle (enjoy a friendly drink) in one of the many traditional English pubs overlooking pretty views of the river.


There is a direct link from Heathrow Airport on the tube, and 5 different tube lines within 5-10 minutes walk of the house - you can travel anywhere across London.

Tube stations:

Ravenscourt Park (5 minutes) District line; Hammersmith (10 minutes walk) District, Piccadilly, Hammersmith and City lines.

Shepherds Bush (15 minutes) Central line.

Piccadilly Circus is only 18 minutes away by Tube

Longer but more interesting by bus - the service is excellent.

Airport Transfers

Before arrival, Elizabeth Lytton will send you the website link of a local taxi company, for you to book your airport pickup. They will send a driver to meet you at the Arrivals gate and bring you to your destination, where you will personally met on arrival.

Local Shopping

There are many grocery shops within 5 minutes walk of the area. There is a 7/11 store open until late on Dalling road. The nearest supermarkets are Marks and Spencer and Sainsburys on King Street about 10 minutes walk away. The Patisserie Sainte Anne on King Street provides a wonderful haven for home cooked treats and delicious coffee. Shepherd’s Bush fruit and vegetable market is 10 minutes walk.

A further 5 minutes walk you’ll reach Westfield, one of the largest shopping malls in Europe. There you’ll find every shop from Prada and Louis Vuitton to Kath Kidson and Desigual, as well as 15 cinemas, restaurants for every taste and pocket, coffee bars from all parts of the globe.

More than enough to tempt you out of you holiday home.

Of course there are the world famous “tourist musts” all over Central London. Every one highlighted in your guidebook.

But do give a thought to the many beautiful places to visit nearby. Kew Botanical Gardens are unique. Set up in Queen Victoria’s time and treasured ever since. Rare plants, shrubs and trees from every place on earth. Cultivated with rare craft and resources, set in beautiful parkland.

Chiswick House, a Palladium style home and grounds to match can be reached by bicycle in only 20 minutes.

By the River Thames

Take a walk or cycle ride down to the River Thames just 10 minutes away. Enjoy the Victorian, Regency and Georgian architecture and the wonderful traditional English pubs where you can taste a huge range of English beers. (You can also find chilled lager if you insist on it.)

The Dove – Overlooking the Thames with a rich history and charming interior which houses the smallest bar room in Britain. Former customers include everyone from King Charles II to Ernest Hemingway.

The Old Ship – just a stride or two further up the Thames - is a fantastic spot for award winning al fresco dining. You can enjoy a traditional Sunday roast lunch or a delicious ale battered fresh haddock and enjoy a river view with sculling figures in pencil slimcraft, rattling oars and barking cox.

Local Eating-out

The Andover Arms is one of the area’s hidden gems, this handsome, traditional pub is a great find. Tucked away in Brackenbury Village, the pub fosters a wonderfully relaxing and family friendly atmosphere – with fine ale and home-cooked food served by friendly staff every day.

The Anglesea, The Butcher’s Hook and the The Dartmouth Castle are also great watering holes with pretty outdoor terraces. All within short walks of each other.

The Brackenbury restaurant and Indian Zing will not disappoint. And for a breakfast or tea try the Parisian bakery and café, Patisserie Sainte Anne, for a couture collection of beautifully presented patisserie and breads made on the premises.
