Beautiful 1 bed garden flat in Teddington. The flat sleeps 4 adults with a double bed and a sofa bed, as well as a travel cot if you've got a little one. Within walking distance of Hampton Court Palace, bus ride to Twickenham & train into London.
We have a beautiful flat in Teddington that's the downstairs of a Victorian townhouse. Whilst it's traditional in some ways like the original wooden flooring throughout and wooden shutters, we have lots of modern fixtures as well. We love chairs, so there are a fair few design classics in the house and we've kitted it out with plenty of books on London and the local area so that you can find your way about. We've got a guest pack with local walks (dogs very welcome!) and runs if you'd prefer, as well as the local shops etc.
In the flat you'll find beautiful high ceilings and the original floorboards. The windows are the original Victorian (massive) sash windows and we've got traditional wooden shutters on some of them. We've got a load of different guide books around the flat covering London, local history and dog walks, so you should be well versed in everything available to you.
Bedroom: There's a large double bedroom at the back of the flat with a super comfortable double bed with room to hang / fold your clothes and fresh towels & slippers will be waiting for you. If you've got a little one, we've got a travel cot that we can provide, along with bedding. If you're staying for a bit longer, we'll provide you with a 2nd set of clean towels and bedding to ensure you can change them if / when you want.
Lounge: The lounge has a double sofa bed and a couple of other chairs to hang out in, or watch the TV (DVD player built in). We've got a variety of magazines too (we'll try to make sure they're not too old!). We've even got some board games and playing cards for those who'd like a good old family argument.
Kitchen / Diner: The kitchen is half kitchen, half dining room, with a large dining table that can seat lots of people - there are 4 chairs at the table, and a lovely vintage high chair as well. The kitchen has all the usual amenities plus some extras (washing machine, coffee press, tea & coffee, a few herbs & spices etc). We'll always aim to have a pint of milk in the fridge when you arrive, so you can sit down and have a cuppa.
Bathroom: The bathroom has a bath as well as a shower and we've got some nice shower gel, shampoo & conditioner and hand wash to make you feel nice.
Garden: There's a small private courtyard garden with a table and chairs, should you want to have dinner outside. There's a barbecue in the garden if you want to get some charcoal in. We've got solar fairy lights and candles out there too, for that romantic feel!
The flat it totally self contained, so you'll have access to everything in the flat. There's nothing that's off limits and you don't have to share your space with anyone (unless you want to!).
Teddington is such a beautiful suburb of London. We think it's the best of both worlds - a village feel with independent shops, a Royal Park (Bushy Park) less than 5 minutes walk away from the flat, the Thames river only a few minutes walk away as well, good pubs and restaurants, and all of it only 30 mins away from the centre of London by train.
Teddington was particularly important during the war with Eisenhower based in Bushy Park where he planned the D-Day landings, and with the Dunkirk Evacuation setting off from Teddington Lock. More recently, the fish slapping dance from Monty Python was filmed on Teddington Lock!
Hampton Court Palace is a 30 min walk away across Bushy Park and was Henry VIII's home, with Bushy Park being his private hunting grounds. The fallow deer in Bushy Park are reputed to be the descendants of Henry VIII's deer. There are also red deer in the park, and the stag rut in October/November is particularly exciting. The RHS Hampton Court Flower Show happens every July, so the flat is in a great location for that.
And if you fancy a day shopping but don;t want to brave Oxford Street, we're just across the river from Kingston-upon-Thames and a short bus ride from Richmond-upon-Thames.
Even better, if you like rugby, we are a bus ride or even a walk from Twickenham, the home of English Rugby (great for the Rugby World Cup in 2015!).
We're a couple of music nerds who love living in Teddington. We both work in London, one as a graphic designer, one at a record label. In our free time we love hanging out with our dog, Monty, and generally relaxing at home.
The flat is everything as previously reviewed and pictured on the website. Friendly and helpful owners, very clean, all the appliances worked beautifully, and best of all, it is a wonderful combination of interior design elements that make for a comfortable, as well as, a very pleasurable stay. I hope we can make it our permanent base when we come back to England to visit our relatives (and stay longer)!
The flat was clean and spacious - really lovely with comfortable beds and plenty of bedding and towels provided. The owners were there to greet us when we arrived and provided us with milk and a bottle of wine to start us off. They are a lovely couple who made themselves available for anything we may have needed. We hope to stay here again next year.
Teddington is a delightful place to stay - easy access to Surrey and Sussex, yet also good for the tourist sites of London. We had no problems with parking nearby, and only used the car for visits to the country. We loved walking around the area, following the maps supplied by Kate and Jamie. Bushy Park made access to Hampton Court very easy, and is an enjoyable excursion in itself. We enjoyed the area so much, we rarely took the train to central London, despite it only taking about 30 minutes. The apartment supplied all we needed and our hosts were very helpful.
We had a wonderful time in this apartment. It was spacious and well equipped, including helpful information from Kate about what to see in the local area. Very well situated for trips into London being a short walk to Hampton Wick Station. Also there are plenty of local walks to do and buses right outside the door if required. Teddington and Kingston have good shopping. We walked to Hampton Court through Bushy Park and did a loop walk to Teddington Lock and back to Kingston via the Thames Path.
I would recommend it to friends as a good base for exploring London and further afield.
We enjoyed our stay and no problem with parking in side streets. Flat well provided for and we appreciated welcome bottle of wine. Would stay again.
A lovely well furnished flat in a fabulous location. Warm welcome by Kate. Would definitely stay again and probably will.
