What a treat... the cottage is welcoming and the owners even more so. Whether it be providing directions, restaurant recommendations, or anything in between... we were in good hands. The cottage is very comfortable, well appointed, and simply terrific! The garden is beautiful, the area is lovely, and we wished we could have stayed for more. We will recommend this property to our friends and family, it is as described, and truly a gem.
Our family of five (kids 9, 13 & 15) spent a week at the cottage and will never forget this WONDERFUL experience! This is the real thing, not a polished, modern replica. The cottage is spacious and comfortable, and beautifully decorated with vintage items. We didn't luck out with the weather the first few days, so we enjoyed a toasty fire every night with peat bricks and wood provided by the owners The beds were warm and comfortable. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed to get settled in. The surrounding yard is gorgeous and the owners and their children couldn't have been more kind or charming. I feel like we've made lifelong friends as well as fabulous family memories. They provided us with a loaf freshly baked Irish soda bread and eggs from their hens to start out, and every room had fresh wildflowers.
The cottage itself is over 300 years old with all the charm of that era, including thick stone walls, low doorways and quirky little nooks. We used the cottage as a base to travel to Dublin, Newgrange, Kilkenny, Galway and the Cliffs of Moher. The windy narrow roads were adorable (though the roads between the cliffs of Moher and Galway were REALLY narrow!), the countryside with sheep-dotted fields amongst innumerable ruins were bucolic, and we quickly adapted to driving on the "wrong" side of the road!
I can't emphasize enough how lovely the owners, Deirdre and Darragh, were, as were their children. They are a big part of the fond memories of our trip. They did everything in their power to help us settle in and give us tips on where to visit. We feel like we've lived the life of the Irish!
Word of advice: Get detailed directions to the cottage from the owners in advance, our GPS couldn't find it!
Our family of four, with two teenage girls, spent a fabulous summer week staying at this wonderful Irish cottage. Set in the the beautiful hills of County Laois, it was a great spot to call home after different day trips around the eastern part of Ireland, Exactly as pictured, the cottage gave us all we needed in terms of amenities. The girls each had their own cozy room and we made dinner most nights in the homey kitchen. Our hosts were warm and helpful and great to deal with. I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting an authentic Irish experience.
What a fabulous place! Pictureque in every way, it was a wonderful experience to stay in a unique 300+year old cottage. Easy sight-seeing during the day - we loved Kilkenny, lots of ruins, Limerick, the Cliffes of Moher and the Burren. We then came back to warm up with a turf fire in the stove before taking a walk down to the Swan pub. The Kettle family was lovely. Staying at the Tulip Cottage help make our trip to Ireland absolutely perfect.
My family and I had a wonderful time staying here. The cottage is beautiful and the surrounding countryside was picturesque. It was in a central location for sightseeing in many regions of the country and the owners gave us helpful information on the surrounding areas. I would recommend a stay at this cottage to anyone!
