We had everything we needed in this cute little place. The house is well located, smells nicely like cedar wood and it has a lot of atmosphere. We stayed there in four people and it was very comfortable. We were even allowed to have later check-in, due to our late flight home, which was great. Hisae, thank you for everything.
Great house in a quiet neighborhood. Well connected to both the JR and Tokyo Metro lines. The stairs are very narrow and steep, but it was never much of an issue. Hisae is very accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend.
The May House is excellent. It is a few steps from Nezu metro stop and close to Yanaka which is a very laid-back village like area of Tokyo. We were a family of 6 mostly adults and was big enough for us. The house has everything you need. We cooked some meals and there are good supermarkets nearby. It does front a main road but is peaceful to be in. Excellent Toyko base.
We enjoyed our stay at 'May' in Nezu this September. The house itself has lots of interesting features and is very deceiving from the outside. We were directly on a main street so at night and in the morning there is street noise into the third floor street facing bedroom. It is a great mix of neighbourhood living as well as being conveniently located next to restaurants and supermarkets and Ueno park and markets. The house as with many others we stayed in has steep small stairs and requires care to safely go up and down. There are lots of separate living space which worked well with our two boys. The four of us had lots of space. Toilet and bathroom on the ground floor. The house is clean and has all necessary amenities. Less than a minute to get to the subway train station and on a bus line. We would stay here again
I booked this property based on the many reviews which were very helpful and accurate. The place is exactly as shown on the photos. It was very clean when we arrived and our hostess met us there even though our flight arrived early.
The house itself is conveniently located with lots of amenities within 5-10 minutes walk. There are karage and sushi takeout shops and a large grocery store just up the street. Also excellent nabe and katsu restaurants. Don't be afraid to just walk in to experience the different restaurants in the neighbourhood. Nezu station is literally around the corner (as long as you exit the south side). From Nezu, all the major attractions are simple 15-30 minute train rides away.
Each room had its own AC unit which was very helpful in the 30+°C weather we had. The house is finished with cypress wood everywhere which gave the place a pleasant aroma. The house wifi worked fine for the four of us. The washer/dryer was very nice to have.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay here and we'd recommend it to all our family and friends who plan to visit Tokyo.
We stayed here for 6 nights in Aug 2016 and we are a family of four with a daughter (10) and son (9) and this was absolutely a gem in the heart of Tokyo. It oozes character from the moment you slide open the front door, from the shoe rack, the little japanese steps, the cute tiny drawers under the stairs, the wooden clad rooms, the sliding doors everywhere, the exposed ceilings, the japanese toilet through to the bathroom and tub.
We were greeted on arrival by the lovely so friendly Yuko how took us through everything from the garbage routine, the airconditioning controls through to the Japanese toilet controls.
This had everything we needed with the bonus of a washing machine and bathroom that doubled as a super quick drying room for the washing. Air conditioning in every room, comfortable sofas on the ground and first floors, big TVs to watch quirky Japanese television. And a mini-kitchen with a kettle, single hob, microwave, toaster and big sink with a bench to sit and be social. Everywhere clean and spotless on arrival, comfortable beds and great little balcony to sit and have a quiet beer or glass of wine on at night and to stand up and look over the house at the Tokyo Skytree.
It is in a perfect location just 10-15 minutes walk from the amazing Ueno park with the zoo, temples, museums (and Ueno station where you'll arrive from Narita airport) and 2 minutes from Nezu station on the Chiyoda line (you'll use this for getting to all the sights in Tokyo or transiting to Tokyo Central). Near Ueno stations there is the Ameyoko Shopping Street with so many places to eat authentic Japanese food, and we went here most nights. Good safe feel to the neighbourhood and park too. This was our oasis of clam, a perfect refuge, away from the hedonistic, crowded and noisy rest of Tokyo.
There is a convenience store within a minutes walk called Maretsu Petit, just turn right on leaving the house and walk for about a minute on the same side of the road. There is a bigger one if you walk left for about 4-5 minutes.
I noticed some other reviews complain about road noise however I wanted to mention that we were never troubled by any of the road noise.
The photographs of this property didn't do it justice for me - they made it look cramped which is wasn't. We were comfortable with a good amount of space for us.
Loved, the location, loved the Japanese traditional theme, loved the property, loved the character - absolutely recommended and so glad we chose it.

Yanesen is the collective name for the Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi neighbourhoods. It’s a great area to explore on foot and see the remnants of the shitamachi atmosphere of good old Tokyo—the traditional Japanese townscape and the friendliness and hospitality of the residents living there—all in the heart of the metropolis. This course takes a stroll through the classic shopping street, the symbolic mud wall of Kannon-ji Temple, and a famous shrine and gardens.
