In a truly very special location with beautiful contemporary architecture, spectacular views overlooking the Gulf of Mirabello, Agios Nikolaos and the mountains, this stunning villa comes complete with heated infinity pool, stylish luxurious decor and 3 beautiful double bedrooms each with their own private sea facing terrace. Situated in a private, gated estate with 24 hour security and management, 8km from the bustling town of Agios Nikolaos with its shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and 1km from the village of Istro with its supermarkets, wine store, bakery, beaches and good range of little tavernas. The villa has an abundance of inside and outside dining and lounging areas equipped with comfortable sofas and chairs for relaxation and entertaining, including its own traditional BBQ. The kitchen is well equipped for those who wish to cook themselves whilst there are plenty of eating out options for those who don't! It is also possible to have food delivered from a couple of excellent local tavernas for those who want to eat in without cooking. Built over 2 floors, with open plan living and striking views across the bay from every aspect, the sleeping accommodation is on the lower floor. The villa comes with a weekly housekeeping service and meet and greet package on arrival. We feel because of the infinity pool this villa is not suitable for small children.
We (family of 2 adults and 4 kids) have stayed in lots of holidays homes in several countries and I have to say this is possibly the best. The location is hard to beat. See the views from every room and the outside and the pool etc. The quality of the house is first rate - no expense spared in building it a few years ago and it is maintained as if new. The villa is in an exclusive, high quality gated and private community on a spectacular hillside, with no close development, Very private, a good distance from nearest neighbor and not overlooked. The villa doesn't have its own direct access to the sea, but it is a very short distance (2 min walk) to a pathway down to a private cove with swimming platform into the most wonderful crystal waters. A couple of quite good beaches a few minutes away but the best beaches on the island are further away.
The owner and housekeeper provided non stop support both before and during the stay. Could not ask for anything more from them. The fridge and pantry being stocked with food, beer and wine on arrival was a very nice gesture (I hope we didn't eat too much of your stuff).
Overall this is a fantastic place that I would not hesitate to return to or recommend to any friend.
The villa has a wonderful position overlooking the Gulf of Mirabello. It is very well equipped and met all our needs. Reasonably close to a number of good tavernas which we could have walked to but were always too lazy to do so! A steep climb to swim off the rocks below the villa or a longer walk to a sandy beach - what more could you want?
The photos look pretty good. Lovely house, fabulous pool and view. But it's only when you actually stay there that you appreciate it fully.
The villa is well laid out with scope for internal and external dining, shade if you want it with settees and armchairs available as well as loungers and umbrellas. A lovely heated pool. And those views!
Inside far more than the minimum of furnishings and equipment, and of the highest quality too. An elegant home which you can share.
The owner, Ann-Marie, is an excellent communicator, prompt, welcoming and ever willing to assist further if needed. Her directions are precise, and the welcome from Barbara and Susan, the local staff, is just what you'd wish for. Everything you need to know, and the rest available if there is something you find you need.
Because the local tavernas in Istro are simple but adequate, we cooked for ourselves in the evenings most days, and didn't try the takeaway or delivery available. Of the supermarkets in Agios we found AB by far the best, and there is a very good fishmarket in the square above the marina.
We hugely enjoyed Greek wines which have improved greatly in recent years. Within Crete, anything by Nostos in Chania or Lyrarakis in Heraklion will be good, but local house wines are also pleasant and cheap.
Whether it's standard practice (I suspect) or just because we were first there for the season in May, but we found provisions for a day or two, with water, wine, spices and so on all there, together with toiletries and suncream if you'd forgotten.
What a place!
Our summer has started at this superb villa in Crete. It's a piece of paradise; really well appointed with everything you could want. And the views are amazing over the bay. The infinity pool is magical. We love it here!
We absolutely loved our stay in Istro in this gorgeous villa. There are stunning views from all parts of the villa and it's well equipped with everything you need. Its the most relaxing holiday we have had. We will definitely be returning.
We don't often take time to write a review but our stay at Istro in this amazing villa was exceptional. We like to have totally lazy holidays unwinding and relaxing. What better place than here! We enjoyed absolute peace and tranquility over looking the stunning bay views. But our 2 teenagers liked a little more action and found plenty at Ayios Nikolas about a 15 minute drive away. We plan to return for my 50 and to bring one or two couples with us next year and enjoy the glorious BBQ area of an evening. A couple of the local tavernas even delivered meals for us. A godsend after a completely lazy day in the sun!! The villa itself is tastefully furnished especially the main lounge area with gorgeous designer guild fabrics. The bathrooms are spacious and state of the art. There is a path down the cliffs leading to a swimming area within the private gated estate. The sea is amazing. On occasion we also left the villa to visit some of the lovely local beaches scattered along the coast nearby. We also visited the former leper colony of Spinalonga (setting for Victoria Hislop's novel, The island). A memorable half day excursion. Overall a truly wonderful villa and holiday in Crete.
