Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Old Town - At home with a Castle view

Large one bedroom near the grassmarket area of the old town.

Welcome to our lovely one bedroom flat near Edinburgh castle. Located in a stone built Victorian tenement in the Old Town with the both Royal Mile and Princes Street within ten minutes walk. As you arrive at the door to the apartment look behind you to take in the spectacular castle view. Please note, the flat is on the third floor, so do be prepared to take your suitcase up lots of steps.

We are an Artist and an Architect and have decorated our Edinburgh pad with high quality furnishings and love and attention to detail. You will love to lie in bed looking at the great castle view, or cosying up on the leather chesterfield in front of to the wood burning stove.

The bedroom is the first room off the hallway, and is located at the rear of the flat, away from the bustle of West Port making it quiet. The beautifully decorated and super comfy bed and antique french wardrobe will welcome you. The bed is an English king size (American queen size) with a pocket sprung mattress. Linen is Egyptian cotton and 300 thread count.

The next room is the bathroom, which has a very large double ended bath and with a large shower head at one end. We also provide complimentary toiletries from Cole & Lewis. The toilet is separate with it's own washbasin so one of you can shave while the other applies their make up.

Arriving in the living room you are greeted with the warming sight of a wood burning stove, three seater chesterfield sofabed in antiqued leather, the logs and the tartan armchair chair by the fireplace. We provide logs and kindling for the fire, about two fires worth but can supply more on request, for a small charge. We sourced a lovely vintage ariel photograph of the city for this room which covers the city centre. It is also a multi-functional room as the reclaimed wood dining table is on the opposite side to the fire, with it's cast Iron sewing machine base and Tolix style chairs.

The kitchen is open to the living room and is well planned with a large Smeg fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave. We provide some larder basics and tea and coffee, plus laundry powder and some cleaning materials.

The flat has wifi and virgin TV channels, which includes netflix.

This flat is ideal for two people, as it's lovely and romantic and the bedroom is quite quiet, there is a sofa bed in the living room to accommodate four, but this room can be noisy to sleep in at night. If you are out a lot in the evening then this won't matter, but with that and the wood burner we wouldn't suggest that younger children should sleep on the sofa bed.

Fantastic Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This was a very comfortable and beautiful apartment. There were fresh flowers and a lovely bottle of wine waiting on the table. Instructions for everything you might need were right there and I was able to just relax after long days of sightseeing. Even though I was traveling alone, I felt safe and secure here. I would definitely go back and stay here again.

very beautiful apartment, a fantastic stove, an amazing castle view, close to the city center

  • 5 of 5

The apartment description was accurate and we found it clean and well maintained. Fully equipped, also with wood for the stove. The owners are very kind and provided us a very good "service".

Staying in Edinburgh is a very exciting experience. The people are warm and they made us feeling welcomed. The apartment is in a very convenient position, 15 minutes walk from the city center and the Castle. if you are planning a stay in Edinburgh, we suggest you to consider this apartment as very good and nice solution. We will go back again to Edinburgh and for sure we will stay there.

Absolutely lovely apartment!

We had such a wonderful time staying here! The location was perfect and the apartment was quite large. Bathroom is beautiful and the bedroom is cozy and comfortable. We loved coming home from a chilly day and lighting the little stove oven! Really an incredible little place

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this flat for our honeymoon and it was everything we expected and more! The location was just perfect! We were within walking distance--although we did a lot of walking closing in on nearly 20,000 steps most days. But that was our choice to walk to see all the sites. Taxi's and public transportation were abundant. The flat is as beautiful as pictured and so comfortable. Sara was waiting for us when we arrived. Fresh flowers and wine were on hand. We had plenty of firewood and even enjoyed Netflix in the evenings where we just wanted to relax a bit with a bottle of wine! While some reviews mention the entertainment outside the window below--it was not at all an issue. We felt comfortable and safe for our entire visit.

We had a lovely week--the weather was perfect! We toured the Highlands--the Queen's View will forever be etched in my mind! Loch Lomond & Stirling Castle and the Alnwick Castle and area. It was just superb! (through Rabbie's tour company-the tour guides were superb!-16 passenger vans so they could travel to some places the big buses may not be able to get to.) I can't say that we had a bad meal the entire time, either! So many choices in all directions. And of course, we did our sampling of Whiskey's too. It was fun to learn about the process at the Whiskey Experience and we also went on the Dewar's tour with one of our Rabbie's tours. Both were very fun. We visited many local pubs and listened to live music in the evenings as well. So much character everywhere!

McKirdy's Steakhouse was very good! We enjoyed the mushrooms in a garlic, wine, cream sauce! We roamed the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the GrassMarket and New Town. We were in awe all week.

I highly recommend Tina...she was very responsive and a joy to work with. We can't wait to come back to Scotland! Thanks so much!

We have hundreds of photos to remind us of a fabulous week! Thanks again!

Charming, pristine, comfortable, convenient, and positively romantic

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this charming flat at the end of a two week trip to Austria, Ireland and Scotland and I'm already looking forward to going back! I knew that three days would be too short to see and do everything that Edinburgh has to offer, but I was also determined to go, so I spent a lot of time researching the city and trying to find a place to stay that was both conveniently located and a comfortable place to relax at the end of a busy vacation. My efforts paid off, and this home away from home exceeded my expectations. Previous reviews capture the details perfectly, so I simply add my emphatic thumbs up! But I will say that if you have a heightened sense of the aesthetic as I do, this is the place for you. Yes, there are three flights of nondescript stairs up to the apartment, but then the open air corridor and the colorful, potted plants hint at the thoughtfully designed spaces beyond the cobalt blue door. Their photos are beautifully accurate, but there's nothing like being there to fully appreciate the colors and textures and artistic touches firsthand. I loved the high ceilings and rich wood floors, the tapestry wall hanging, the heavy drapes with tassels, the pristine white subway tile and glass bathroom, and the small, contemporary kitchen with black tile and cherry wood. Barry and Tina have left traces of their personality throughout the apartment from the artistic sensibilities found in their design and furniture choices to the subtle and somewhat whimsical nod to history In the details (note the stag theme found in the artwork, light fixtures and clothes hooks). The dining table made from an antique Singer sewing machine topped with a wood plank is brilliant, and I loved the two framed prints in the bedroom featuring male and female stags with fancy, period hats. The view of rooftops and Edinburgh Castle from the bedroom window is timeless - beautiful both by day and by night - and drinking wine by candlelight in front of a crackling fire followed by THAT BED was so cozy that I was glad for the rain. I might have been tempted to stay in each morning were it not for the thought of cappuccino and scones at Lovecrumbs downstairs! To end on a practical note, Barry and Tina are great at communicating about logistics, and after less than a week back we have already had our cleaning deposit returned. The last day we were able to leave our bags in the flat and pick them up in the afternoon. Taxi from the airport is worth the 20P.

Edinburgh is a beautiful city and its abundance of Georgian and Victorian architecture has given it World Heritage site status. It's a great year round destination and has an excellent cultural offer. The August festival and fringe being the cultural highlight. The National Museum and National Galleries are within walking distance, as are various music venues and shopping.

The flat is located near the Grassmarket area of the Old Town and in the vicinity of Edinburgh castle. Local to the flat, there are quite a few festival venues nearby including the Usher Hall, the Lyceum and the Traverse. There are several bars and restaurants including a Michelin starred restaurant. It's centrally located with all the city's amenities a short walk away. From nearby Lothian road you can catch buses to other parts of the city areas such as Leith. We love the neighbourhood, the castle is everywhere you look as we are so close to it. It feels a bit like soho, which makes it vibrant with a variety of shops and bars, but do be aware there are also some gentlemen's bars there. The nearby cafe - 'Lovecrumbs' is a trendy and very popular cafe with an ever changing daily selection of quirky and tasty home made cakes featuring unusual ingredients like Rosemary and Lavender! The mix of shops includes vintage clothes and furniture, second hand books, gifts, Scottish designer clothes. Our favourite restaurant and cocktail bar is 'Timberyard', expensive but worth it, with it's adventurous modern take on Scottish food and cocktails. The supermarket is across the road, but there is also a farmers market in Castle Terrace every saturday. Of course the Grassmarket down the road has many bars and restaurants and West Bow/ Victoria street, a lovely shopping street with independent boutiques.
