Mount Sandford House is, in part, over 250 years old. During 2014 it has been completely renovated in a tasteful and respectful manner. The result is a glorious 10 bedroom manor house, set in 1.5 acres of beautiful gardens on the edge of Barnstaple and next to Portmore Golf Club.

There are 8 newly installed bathrooms, a large drawing room, 2 living rooms, dining room with seating to accommodate all your group, 2 kitchens, utility room, conservatory, 9 man hot tub in the garden next to the Summer House.

Next to the bar and games room, complete with pool table and wall mounted TV for all those sporting event coming up, is a large car park sufficient for all your family and/or friends.

Mount Sandford House has had its electrical system and plumbing brought up to excellent standards for a property of this size. Do not be worried about low pressure showers, not enough hot water, big cold rooms associated with these large properties. Mount Sandford will not disappoint, no expense has been spared to ensure warmth and comfort.

The bedrooms are spread out over the 1st and second floors and the west and central sections of the house. The whole property is connected, but there is a wing that can be annexed if any of your party want their own space and some peace and quiet. It can be sectioned into a 2 bedroom house with its own living room, dining room and kitchen.

About Benn or Amy Coley

Benn and Amy bought Mount Sandford House in early 2014 having lived in France (property 8294) for over 10 years where both their children were born. They have spent 2014 breathing fresh life into a magnificent property with enormous potential and inherent intrigue and beauty. Having lived in SW France near the beautiful sandy beaches and surf they have decided that they want to have the same benefits but live in the UK - North Devon was the obvious place to come. We love our new lives here, love the vibe and buzz to Barnstaple and everything the North of Devon has to offer.

Why Benn or Amy Coley chose North Devon

Benn spent many Summers in the South West of England surfing and generally exploring the rugged coastline. We have family down in this part of England as well. I always thought I would like to live here one day. We found Mount Sandford House by accident, having already looked at similar sized properties in very rural, out of the way locations. We decided that Mount Sandford House was the ideal location because we had the best of both worlds....surrounded by fields, but only a few minutes from bars, restaurants, shops and life! Our kids love it down here too.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

We fell in love with the 'unkown' history to Mount Sandford and the opportunity to restore it to something majestic that we could use for our business. Mount Sandford has so many nooks and crannies to explore. Its location makes it easy to get to by car or train....we are only 30 mins from Tiverton Parkway, which is only 1 hour 30mins from London, and we are only 40 mins off the M5 down the A361.

We have golf outside our front door at Portmore Golf Club, as well as easy access to Royal North Devon and Saunton Sands Golf clubs. We are near great beaches, and loads of other tourist attractions including The Big Sheep and The Milky Way. Cycling around here is incredible and we are more or less on the Tarka Trail! The region is steeped in history, great food, restaurants, beer, cider and even local wine making. You will not be disappointed.

Benn and Amy live on site in Little Sandford, a 3 bedroom annexe, next to the East Wing. We are often away during your stay, but when around are more than happy to help with local info and tips on the house. It is completely independent to the Manor.

Beautiful property and great location

Stayed here recently for a golf weekend. The property is stunning with very comfortable beds in lovely rooms. Benn and Amy are brilliant hosts and take care of all your needs, leaving you to relax and enjoy the spacious living areas and gardens.

Perfect for large parties in relaxed surrounding

What an amazing stay at Mount Sandford. Plenty of space for everyone, even in the hot tub! Fantastic hospitality and cooking from the hosts and plenty of options for eating out nearby too. Lovely house with great out-house bar and games facility. The golf courses were great, but I'd come back with the family just to enjoy the peaceful rural life and beaches. Thanks again to Benn and Amy for making us feel so comfortable. We'll be back!

Fabulous house

We felt very welcomed as a group of mature 'hens', and instantly fell in love with the well kept house, which was both beautiful and full of character. It was somewhere the whole group could come together to eat and socialise, either in the big dining hall or the summer BBQ house, but also catch up with old friends in smaller groups in any of the many secluded spots all around the house and garden. The house was well located for nipping to the shop, jumping on a bike along the Tarka trail, or a half hour drive to enjoy the stunning coast. Benn answered all my questions, and gave us lots of useful pre-stay information about the house and local area. Would definitely recommend, great house and great value.

Brilliant house for larger party

I have been meaning to type this review for Mount Sandford House since the end of our stay at Xmas, better late than never. We are a large family that goes away every Christmas to a different house/location and consequently we are very picky and want everything to be just right. It was the first time we had been as far as Devon but it was well worth the trip. The house was big, comfortable, welcoming and homely, everything we could have hoped for. Everything as was described,. The house was beautifully decorated and the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to decorate it for Christmas too. The house easily catered for a large group, the kitchen was well equipped with all we needed. Bedrooms and bathrooms fulfilled everyone's expectations and were very comfortable. The kids made good use of the hot tub and the adults made good use of 'The Pub' games room. The owners Benn and Amy couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We took several trips to the beach while we were there with our dogs which made a lovely change for us at Christmas. We would all highly recommend Mount Sandford as a house for a large group. I imagine it would be beautiful in the summer where you could make max use of the hot tub and gardens. While you are there the Chichester Arms, a local traditional pub with log fires, is definitely at place to go. The food was excellent, plentiful and service great.

Fantastic, modern home in beautiful surroundings
