Clean tidy and close to station

  • 3 of 5

The flat was easy to find and not far from the station. Probably not suited to elderly people will a fairly steep hill on your return journey. The flat was execellent for a couple or in my case I was with my adult daughter and we had to separate beds. Heating was good, but no TV, which was a bit of a pain if you like to watch the news and weather. Owner responded to questions onced a text was sent. Need to bring your own iron for longer stays. Beds were comfortable. Overall we stayed for two weeks and ysed property as a base in london.

Spartan living in London

  • 3 of 5

So this is our third experience with VRBO (fourth if you count AirBNB) and we know it's hit or miss. Short review: If you need a place pretty conveniently located in London, this isn't half bad.

Simon was pretty good with communication via email. We corresponded both through VRBO and directly through email and he was quick to answer our questions.

The key was easy to access and the flat easy to navigate.

The property is close to New Cross Gate. If you use some of the trip planner apps there, it won't be obvious that you can take the Overground directly from there to London Bridge. So once you're at New Cross Gate, you're really good to go--it's a 6 min. trip to London Bridge and the trains come regularly.

The wifi is strong with this flat. Steady and the throughput good for checking on email or even live Skype.

Simon advertises the unit as being a "4 minute walk" to New Cross Gate. We timed it many times and it's more like a 10 minute walk, which isn't so bad when you're going to the train station downhill. Coming FROM the train station is another matter entirely as there is a pretty steep hill to walk up. Had we known that, we might have looked at another unit, as my wife had a problem with that hill daily.

The "large" room for three people isn't very large, but it was adequate. Just be forewarned that if you are more than two people you will be on top of one another.

The kitchen is utility only. There really isn't a place to eat in the flat. You'll have to improvise on that matter. The dishes and silverware had to be cleaned before use (no sponge to be found!).

The sheets and pillowcases were clean we think. I say "think" because one of our pillowcases had makeup on it. We asked Simon about this and he assured us that the housekeeper did, in fact, provide clean bedding. I'd vote for a new housekeeper, personally!

It was very unclear how to turn off the hall lights, which kept us up for a few nights. You have to press the large hallway buttons just so. Once we got them turned off, it was a bit better.

The place has no ventilation. You can open the front windows but the rear windows are sealed shut. During the day, the flat gets musty and warm (we were there in July). No air conditioning (typical of London, of course!), but without the ventilation, it would take a bit of time at night to clear out the air.

This was the first time in our VRBO experience where we never once met the owner. It was

Perfect, great presented flat in London

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful flat, exactly as described. The property was well cleaned upon arrival, it wasn't too far from the local transit and the area had a great view of the downtown area.

When I contacted Simon he responded very quickly and answered my questions.

I recommend this apartment to all, I will look to come back some time soon! Thanks again.

A déconseiller

  • 1 of 5

Fantastic stay - recommended!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay. The apartment is just as pictured, clean and presentable. I loved that it is in a quiet and beautiful neighbourhood. It is only a few mins to the station. I can recommend this accommodation in London!

Lo peor que he visto

  • 1 of 5
