Check in and check out support was great. Appartment is very nice, well located. The only issues we had were the coffee machine did not function and the kettle was not usable. I would have expected these basic items to be functional given the prices paid. Also the Patio area on the terrace was beautiful but needs a basic cleaning.
This property was more beautiful than the pictures. Breathtaking views. Beautifully yet simply decorated. Expansive deck was used every night. There are several balconies, living room fans, air conditioned bedrooms, large bathrooms.
It is located in the heart of Taormina's shops, restaurants, bars, everything! That was my first impression - we are right here! We stepped out of the house and took a five minute stroll to the coffee shop, the grocery store, the drug store, restaurants - I can't stress enough the convenience of this location.
We visited Mt Etna with a private driver - make sure you take the cable car - definitely worth the trip. We had the driver stop at Gambino winery for a spectacular wine tasting. We did a pizza and cannoli making class - I would recommend this. We took the bus up to Castelmola and had lunch and shopped up there - a must. We took the cable car to the Mazzaro beach. We did a lot of walking and exploring.
There are noisy restaurants surrounding the whole property. You hear music and china until late in the night. The master bedroom is immune from the noise, but the other two bedrooms are not. We handled it well but just be prepared for it and you will be fine.
Our family of four (two adults, two teenagers) recently spent four nights in Taormina at the second part of our two week trip to Europe. When we were researching an apartment in Taormina, we narrowed our selection to one closer to the beach and this one directly in town. I am so glad we chose this apartment as it was literally steps from Corso Umberto and the location was perfect for walking everywhere.
Pros - the apartment was clean, great views of the water and city skyline. We ate breakfast on the room terrace every morning which was amazing! And as adults you can leave two kids behind three locked doors (gate, apartment hallway and apartment door) and go out very nearby while knowing the kids are just fine at the apartment.
Considerations - the apartment is in town which is a HUGE benefit. There are however restaurants below the apartment building given that the alleyways of Taormina are close quarters with both residential and restaurants/bars. This was never a problem for us though as we had the AC on each night and the windows closed. If you want to sleep with windows wide open, you do need to know that there is music playing and the nightlife of Taormina nearby which can go somewhat late into the night.
The team that manages this apartment was great! They helped organize transportation to/from the airport in Catania, gave excellent dinner (and breakfast) recommendations and were extremely responsive.
We would DEFINITELY stay here again and can't speak highly enough of the location!
Casa San Domenico was a great place to rent for our 10 day stay in Taormina. It was a very comfortable apartment with great views and just off Corso Umberto. One of the members of our group was a photographer and the terrace was terrific for taking photos. The people we dealt with to help organise our visit were wonderful- thanks Tiziana and Ann.
We had a wonderful week long stay at Casa San Domenico. The apartment was spacious and well outfitted for our group of 4 friends. The location was perfect for enjoying the restaurants and shopping in Taormina. We received wonderful suggestions from the attentive staff about the culinary treats and cultural options in the area. We used the apartment as a home base to explore the nearby region visiting Siracusa, Ortigia, Noto and Modica.
The only caveat was that at night the music from the nearby clubs and bars was a bit loud and continued after midnite on the weekends. Otherwise it was a perfect stay.
Taormina has a prime location to explore the east coast of Sicily. The town stretches on rocky buttresses steeply to the sea, where there are a series of small beaches and headlands. Taormina also maintains numerous historical testionianze in Sicily: The theater, the Odeon and the naval battles of Greek-Roman era; the castle, the cathedral, the walls and gates of the city of the Middle Ages; Corvaja Palace and many more of the old town in crates Catalan Gothic and Renaissance.
