Villa Rogdia is a 150 square meters villa, ideal for people who look for holidays away from the usual tourist areas!

It is located on the foothills of a mountain, about 20 minutes away from the natural south coast beaches!

The villa is a two-storey old traditional house built in 1890! The house was totally renovated a few years ago with preserving its traditional touches.

Entering the villa on the ground floor you will find an open plan area with the fully equipped kitchen, the living room area with satellite HDTV, a fireplace and the indoor dining table. Also on the ground floor there is one bedroom with 2 single beds and one bathroom with bath.

From the open plan area you will have direct access to the 100 square meters veranda which offers amazing views of the valley lying in front of the mountain. In the veranda you will find the barbecue area with sink, an old traditional wood oven and a dining table under a shady bower of grape trees!

On the first floor there is a hall with a sofa and an other fireplace where you also have exit to the pool area.

Also on that floor there is a bathroom with shower and two bedrooms with access to an other smaller veranda. One bedroom has double bed and the other has two single beds.

Outdoors the villa has a private swimming pool with sun beds and umbrellas! Next to the pool in a higher level there is a small children playground under fruit trees!

The pool area offers privacy from the nearby houses and the best views to the valley.

Lovely rural location with fantastic views

Sympathetically refurbished traditional village property build into the hillside. You will need a robust car to reach it, up a steep single track road, but its worth the drive. The location is peaceful, but a short drive from some good tavernas. Highly recommended for family who want to escape the crowds on the coast.

Great villa in middle of nowhere

The villa is located in a small hamlet half way up a mountain in central Rethymno province. This is definitely not a holiday resort and you are likely to be the only tourists around - and all the better for it! Surrounding houses are occupied by locals who we guess are farmers; all were friendly. Sweet little church.

The flip side is that you have to drive for everything, whether for tavernas or for shopping if you want to eat "in". Ditto for beaches but there is stunning walking from the village if that's your thing. This was not a problem for us. We ate in Plakias a couple of times (which is getting increasingly busy and touristy), one local village taverna (OK) but mostly at "Niko's" The Old Forge/ To Sideradiko just the other side of Spili - highly recommended for traditional Greek meat and veggie dishes; no menu, you choose from what he's cooked that day.

The villa itself is charming, tastefully decorated with many clever artistic touches. It gives the impression of being recently refurbished and cared for, clean and contemporary despite being in a very old building. There is plenty of room in lounge areas and on terraces as well as three good sized bedrooms and two bathrooms. The pool area is across a small lane so make sure you take the house key with you! The pool itself is fairly small but deep and great for a quick plunge to cool down. Amazing views from everywhere but especially the pool.

We were met on the main road by John (the owner) who led us to the villa along some pretty rustic roads - the last slope being a bit of a challenge! In the end we usually parked at the bottom and walked the last 100 yards! John was very pleasant and helpful and popped back from time to time to check all was well and clean the pool. Just right - there if needed but not intrusive.

The villa is stocked with useful consumables in the kitchen and bathrooms which we really appreciated (unlike many other villas we've stayed in), eg olive oil, herbs, coffee filters, kitchen towels, toilet rolls, soap. The kitchen equipment was all good quality, newish and functioning.

The maid came once during the (7 day) stay and was extremely thorough, staying almost half a day. As on arrival, she created towel "sculptures" which was fun and added to the sense that the owners cared.

Overall, a very nice villa in an amazing location if you are OK being away from beaches, night life and tavernas and/or are happy driving. We loved it.

Einfach wunderbar!! Just lovely & amazing!

Wir haben zehn wundervolle Tage in der reizenden Villa Rogdia verbracht. Leider war es für uns viel zu kurz und darum kommen wir sicherlich wieder.

Das liebevoll renovierte Haus liegt einsam und völlig ruhig in einem Mini-Mini-Dorf mit einem fantastischen Blick über die atemberaubende Landschaft. Es ist der perfekte Ort um eine entspannte Zeit, abseits des Trubels, zu verbringen.

Die Terrasse ist herrlich, der Pool ist richtig klasse und das Haus ist sehr sauber und es fehlt an nichts.

Wir wurden (trotz dass wir sehr spät angekommen sind) sehr herzlich und mit kleinen regionalen Leckereien empfangen. Mr. John, der Besitzer, ist ein ausgesprochen freundlicher und sympathischer Mann. Man kann sich jederzeit mit Fragen an Ihn wenden.

A beautiful home off the beaten path

This is a truly lovely home located on the hillside above Koxare. It's spacious, well appointed, is very private, and has many scenic views. The pool is not to be missed either! Dining and groceries were a ~20 minute drive away in quaint Spili. This property is also ideally situated for quick access to beaches such as Preveli and Plakias. We didn't want to leave, and would definitely stay here again.

Perfect villa away from it all

This villa stay was perfect for us. The villa is in a tiny village with few inhabitants and no amenities. It is reached along a (steep in places) winding road through the olive groves. The owner met us at the main road and escorted us there which was very useful. Once we arrived we were amazed by the quality of the renovation and the sheer space and attention to detail. The villa is well-equipped and kept spotlessly clean by the cleaning lady who comes every three days. The wifi connection is perfectly adequate for emails and skype and outside the villa the mobile phone signal is good. There are numerous patio areas with the large one covered by a grape vine which provides shade throughout the day. The pool (minimum depth 1.5m I would say) is situated slightly away from the villa across the path across from the front door and is private and well-equipped with sunloungers. The owners are contactable via text and mobile, very friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive which is exactly how we like it. Once at the main road between Rethymno and Spili there are lots of shops and supermarkets for everyday provisions. What more can I say, we loved it!

The villa is located in the centre of village Atsipades which is a very small village on the foothills of a mountain, offering unique views to the valley lying in front!

The area around the village is totally in nature and quiet! You will be able to relax and feel “away from it all” from the first moment of your arrival.

It is one of the best locations if you seek to stay away from the tourist areas of Crete and also visit the amazing natural beaches of south Crete like Praveli, Damnoni, Schinaria, Triopetra and many more!

There are two big villages nearby where you can find shops, bakeries, many taverns and supermarkets. The well known village of Spili which also has a health centre is located 10 minutes away by car and the village of Armeni which is 15 minutes away.

Finally in the South coast, about 20 minutes away from the villa there is a small sea front town of Plakias where you can find everything that you might need and also several choices for entertainment.

If you like adventure, the location also offers the advantage of exploring the unique natural environment of Crete’s inland. Explore the villages, interact with the locals, find taverns with real Cretan cuisine and products, walk in the gorges around or find some totally isolated beaches! We will be happy to make you suggestions and directions for places which only locals know about them!
