This is your opportunity to experience why we love our vacation home and our little island paradise of Avalon. We are only an hour by boat from Los Angeles, but guests often comment it seems like another world. Our lovely deck is the perfect place to read a book, enjoy friends, or BBQ.

We have every amenity to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. For those inclined, there are walking trails throughout the island for hiking. There is a zip-line and climbing wall, bicycles and segways to tour the town. Visit the Botanical Gardens, Wrigley Memorial and play a round at the nine-hole golf course. Most tantalizing are the crystal clear waters of Avalon Bay where our state fish, the bright orange garibaldi, abound and delight visitors. You can rent paddle boats, paddle boards, scuba equipment, kayaks, snorkels, masks and more to enjoy the best part of Avalon. Snorkeling Lover’s Cove, our own Marine Reserve, is an experience not to be missed! You can rent a boat, replete with tackle and fishing poles, from Joe’s Rent-a-Boat on the pier and try your hand at fishing the island coast.

Avalon is a wonderful place for our young visitors as well. Did you know that we are the home to the oldest miniature golf course west of the Rockies? Besides all the fun the beach and ocean affords, there is also an arcade with a small bowling alley and the latest arcade games. Generations of children have marveled at the taffy machine in the window at Lloyd’s of Avalon, churning out the delicious taffy that made Lloyd’s famous.

After a busy day, return to your beautifully appointed oasis, above the hub-bub of the town, and enjoy the quiet environment of your beautiful surroundings. There are upstairs and downstairs living rooms affording guests the option to choose what vacation means to you, with a 3D/Blue Ray flat screen downstairs, wi-fi, a variety of games and game table, and another small deck. Upstairs is the kitchen, laundry room, master bedroom with a brand new walk –in stone shower. This level also has an expansive living area to read, relax or nap as you desire.

There are a variety of dining experiences in Avalon and we would be happy to help you choose the spot that is right for your taste. Our on-site host is happy to help point you in the direction of those activities you choose to pursue, from a spa experience at our beautiful new Island Spa to the best place for breakfast. We look forward to sharing our island home with you!

About Kathe

This a family home and is very quiet. There are also 2 separate studio apartments on the property. Our caretaker lives in one of the units and will be happy to assist you.

Why Kathe chose Avalon

The property has been passed down through the generations. The current home was built in 1981. Our family has been coming to the island since 1927 and has been a special place since our grandparents first started coming to the island.

What makes this house unique

The house is very open and spacious with 2 large living rooms. Our favorite place in the summertime is the deck outside the kitchen that has lovely patio furniture and BBQ and a great place to relax!

Our golf cart is available for an extra fee.

We are only 1/2 block to the beach and from street. Avalon is only 1 square mile and most people walk. We have a bike available for your use. Please ask us about the use of our golf cart for an additional fee. There is a trolley that makes several stops around the island. There is also a taxicab service available. Although our rain fed reservoirs on the island have increased due to the recent rains, please note that we ask you to use water wisely.

My Heart's in Avalon

I have been visiting Catalina since the 50's. I used to stay with my Grandparents that lived there but in more recent years have been staying at VRBO's or hotels. When I entered the house on Whittley I felt like I was home. Our family received cookies and a lovely welcoming note. The owners went the extra mile. The home is unique (used to be the Hut Hotel) with vintage Catalina pictures on the wall and plenty of towels, plates, and staples for us to begin our unforgettable visit to my favorite Island. I now have a favorite place to stay and will be back in the very near future...

For those that have never been to the Island you may want to check out the Casino tour and the brand new Museum... Have fun!!!

The perfect vacation house

Wonderful vacation!! The owners made sure everything imaginable is available, even cookies and specialty coffee upon arrival. The house is spacious and very comfortable. We will definitely book again. Couldn’t have been more enjoyable. Thank you Kathi and Paula.

Spacious and well stocked

The property had a ton of space between the two separate living rooms, three bedrooms and open kitchen. The kitchen was stocked w/ everything we needed to cook, towels were plentiful in all the bathrooms, and Paula was super helpful in getting us all set up w/ beach chairs and towels. It's a pretty easy walk from the ferry to the property if you don't mind a ten minute walk with your luggage. And it's just a couple minutes from the home to the main drag in Avalon.

Our family loved your beautiful house

It was our pleasure to stay at your house in Catalina from Aug 10 thru Aug 17, 2017 . The house was perfect for the eight of us. It was very quiet, comfortably furnished and was wonderfully equipped to accommodate every need . The location was perfect in every way and the use of the golf cart was a real plus.

We also loved that the house has two stories, each with adjacent decks. The upper deck had a large table with many chairs and a BBQ which we used. Our family really enjoyed the access of being a half block from the main street and shops, restaurants, and especially to the beach.

Kathe and Paula were great to work with and very helpful if there were any questions.

We hope if/when we return to Catalina, that your home will be available. We were very pleased.

This is a NON SMOKING home.
Pets are not permitted under any conditions.
We will not rent to vacationing students or singles under 25 years of age unless accompanied by an adult guardian or parent. Children and their ages (no children under 10) are counted in the total occupancy. Undisclosed guests and/or over-occupancy are considered serious violations of your lease and may result in a charge against your security deposit and/or the immediate termination of occupancy without refund.
A maximum of 8 people stay at the house.
All debris, rubbish and discards are placed in trashcans, and soiled dishes are placed in the dishwasher..
No linens including beach towels are lost or damaged.
No food left in the refrigerator
No loud or unreasonable noise may continue outside as stated in the City of Avalon ordinance requires that all loud or unreasonable noise cease between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. in such a manner as to be plainly audible at a distance of fifty (50') feet from the location.
We reserve the right to refund rents, refuse rental, or terminate occupancy if, in our sole discretion, the occupancy may be or is detrimental to the property. NO REFUND will be given if occupancy is terminated as a result of violation of our rental regulations or if the reservation was obtained under false pretenses.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
