About Stewart & Donna

Donna and Stewart live in Prestwick, Scotland.

Stewart & Donna purchased this villa in 2014

Why Stewart & Donna chose Argelès-sur-Mer

We fell in love with Villa Failte on a visit to the area and intend spending many months living there in future years. It has a lovely cosy family home feel about it and is very tranquil and relaxing. We have 4 children and chose the area because of the extensive outdoor activities available locally, the history of the area (Languedoc / Cathar) and the proximity to Barcelona (2.5 hours drive or direct train from Perpignan), not to mention the scenery and the sun !! We live beside the sea in Prestwick, Scotland and love the easy access to the beaches and sea at Argeles.

What makes this villa unique

The villa and the location offer a bit of everything - whether you are looking for relaxation, culture, outdoor activities, entertainment or all of these. Argeles Sur Mer is part of Catalonia and so benefits from both French and Catalan cultures ... it is only a 25 minute drive to Spain and 2.5 hours to Barcelona. The area is easily accessible from a number of airports (Perpignan, Girona, Carcassone, Beziers, Montpellier, Toulouse, El Prat Barcelona). Have a look at the Argeles tourism website (link supplied) ... and that is just Argeles ... the Languedoc truly does have everything for a perfect holiday.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent a fantastic 8 days on our summer holiday at the villa. It had everything you could possibly wish for and it really felt like a true home from home (plus the sun, pool, scenery and fabulous food). The location is perfect and walking distance to the local village with easy access to the beaches and wonderful Marina complex. It is also well connected to the main road access routes to the fabulous locations that we visited.

We all had a fantastic stay at this top of the range villa!

A lovely Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time and very much enjoyed the Villa, which had everything that we could possibly want. It was immaculate and handily located, for shops, the Ville and the Beach.

I could not recommend it highly enough.

Beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

This villa is just beautiful, tastefully decorated and very spacious. We have 2 young children, Stewart and Donna were very accommodating for them putting the stair gates up before we arrived there was also a baby cot and high chair. We loved the garden which was also very child friendly all enclosed and there was a cover for the pool that heated it when closed. The pool was amazing lovely and warm which was also great for the kids. The villa was well equipped with a large TV, wifi, games, DVDs, books, CDs and a portable speaker that you can connect your phone too. Stewart and Donna were great after we booked sending through lots of helpful information on the villa and things to do, the villa is about a 10 minute walk from local shops and resturants, we had lunch out a couple of times but we mostly eat at the BBQ area at the villa. The local supermarket was only a 5 minute drive away and had everything we needed. We also headed to the beach for a day which was beautiful, there were lots of nice cafes and restaurants at the marina but you really need a car to get there. We can't recommend this villa enough it was just stunning and Stewart and Donna where lovely to deal with.

A fantastic, spacious and well-equipped villa within easy reach of everything you could need.

  • 5 of 5

This villa had everything we could have hoped for (and more) as a party of 8 adults, looking for a relaxing stay, in an area of France I have visited a number of times.

It is spacious and well laid out with a good-sized pool, loads of outside space and a fantastic summer kitchen. It's the perfect place for a relaxing family holiday and people of all ages. For example, the table tennis table in the garage provided endless fun.

Stewart and Donna went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. They replied to queries promptly and during our stay they emailed to check whether we needed any extra blankets because the weather turned a bit colder.

Overall we couldn't have asked for a nicer villa or hosts. We will definitely be visiting again.

An outstanding villa with everything you will need

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week's holiday at Villa Failte in Argele Sur Mer. I can unreservedly recommend the property and the doing business with the owners. If you have any doubt at all, give them a ring or drop an email - we were stunned at how rapidly we received a response.

The house itself is equipped with very comfortable furnishings and ample room for a family. It has pretty much everything you will need including simple toiletries, towels and bedding. For fun; there was a petainque court out back, a table tennis table in the garage, bikes in the shed and....oh yes, a pool! 10m long and covered to keep it clean and warm - the pictures do it justice - it was great!

We ate outside everyday in the bbq area with food bought from a mixture of the town and the nearby Intermarche (5 mins via the back route). The laundry facilities worked, the fridges and freezers were ample and the air con a welcome respite from the heat come bed time.

In a sentence - excellently well equipped, clean, well maintained and owned by people I was glad to do business with.

Location - The villa is near the town but we preferred to drive if it was to the shops, head to the beach or eat. Nothing to do with the Villa, but Argele traffic in the summer can be a bit busy and is not for the faint hearted on a bike. There is a walking route into town, but we didn't like it much, so used a car on most occassions. A car is highly recommended, but parking in the entire region can be tricky.

The surrounding roads were very quiet, as was the immediate area which is well served by a bus route (though we never used it). It's close to a local train station which will take you to Perpignan or Collioure - both worth a visit.

In a sentence - The villa is well located in an easy to access and quiet area. We would highly recommend a car but it is possible to survive without one. (OK, two sentences).

All in all we had a great time. loved the villa and have no hesitation in recommending the property, the owners or HomeAway.

Absolutely top-notch villa: walk in, drop bags, enjoy holiday..the owners have thought of everything

  • 5 of 5

This is an excellent, well-equipped, thoughtfully presented, comfortable property in a great location. If you're looking for a relaxed, no-effort family holiday location it would take some beating.

We were a family party of 6 adults and 2 young teens and we all enjoyed the villa enormously, each doing our own thing but meeting up by the pool, or for breakfast and supper in the summer-kitchen which (apart from the pool) is the best feature; an attractive and cheery place to hang out, watching the barbecue and sipping a glass of chilled rose. Plenty of room in the pool for us all and masses of room in the spacious interior for us not to be tripping over each other which meant that the children, on the rare moments when they left the pool, could watch a film or chill out on a sofa each - which made for a very relaxing time for the adults.

We were here during a heatwave and under-achieved on sightseeing generally, preferring to do early forays out and spend afternoons and evenings at the Villa. However we can report on the following: Collioure is beautiful but do go early in high season. We arrived for the Weds. market at 8.30 but by midday when we left, it was very busy with a queue of traffic on the coast road to get in. Argeles' beaches are large and lovely; very busy on Sundays but otherwise, even in late August, there's plenty of space for all. Argeles Port is a great spot for an apero and people-watching; motor-boat hire (no licence necessary) was great fun, 'Tropical' mini-golf is well-groomed, attractive and just challenging enough to keep young teenagers interested for a while. We ate out at the 'Amethyste' in the Port: the food was fine though unremarkable but it's a great location and they were friendly and helpful. Port Vendres is a proper fishing port and I imagine you'd get a decent seafood meal at one of it's many speciality restaurants.

The property was spotless when we arrived and the welcome-pack was much-appreciated...nice too that all switches, plugs etc were labelled - thank you! It was a blessing not to have to pack linens and even beach towels were supplied. We didn't even have to pack boules or pool-inflatables...all there. We did make a few sad attempts at table-tennis and should you wish to spend your holiday washing and ironing, then the laundry-room is for you.

The outside space is well-maintained and the mature palms and olive trees provide a lovely-dappled shade for lounger-snoozing.

Altogether a cracking good holiday!
