About Atlanta and Dave Coote
We are a local family. We have 4 children and we just love the area with its copious beaches. The ancient town of Rye is one of our favourite spots with its cobbled streets, antique shops and many restaurants.
Atlanta and Dave Coote purchased this House in 2013
Why Atlanta and Dave Coote chose Camber
Camber Sands Beach is great place to go with the kids for an old fashioned bucket and spades holiday. We love the location of this wooden clad house as it is so perfectly situated to enjoy the beach anytime of day and in particular early in the morning and in the evening when the the hoards of other visitors have gone home! We also really love the ancient town of Rye with its quirky shops, tea rooms and restaurants. We actually run a photographic locations agency and interior design business for our day jobs and this house has been photographed many times for magazines and catalogues like Boden and The White Company.
What makes this House unique
This house has a wonderful Long Island feel on the outside with a French/Swedish twist to the interior and We have extensively re-decorated the interior with vintage furnishings and with the emphasis on reclaimed materials. However it is the perfect spot for a good old fashioned English 'buckets and spades' holiday that childhood dreams are made of. It is in a quiet location very close to the sea and when the tide is in you can hear the waves crashing on to the shore. Although on a residential road (there are neighbours both sides of this detached house) it never feels overlooked and its village locations means it is quiet without being remote. It has beautiful views across the sand dunes at the front. The whole property is fully fenced in and a picket fence separates the main garden from the parking area so you can feel secure letting little ones roam freely.

What a wonderful time we had. The Grey House provided us with plenty of space, inside and out, looking beautiful and homely at the same time. A great base to go visiting Rye and Dungeness, but mainly for times on Camber beach in every type of weather. The house is beautifully kept, with crisp sheets and clean fluffy white towels, but slightly lacking practical space in the kitchen.
The utensil drawers are impractical unfortunately and the knives were not sharp or sharpenable. Also the very stylish drainer didn't work as a drainer as things slid off it! But those two minor things are our only complaints!
Many thanks for yet again providing us with an atmospheric and beautiful home for a few days.
Perfect home, perfect host!
We visited Camber for a family reunion and stayed in this property as well as the cabin next door. There were at times 19 of us and the properties were both perfectly suited for us! They were beautiful. Clare was so helpful with everything we needed before and during our stay and we really enjoyed the beach, the local restaurants, and our excursions by bus and train to the nearby towns. We could not have asked for anymore, and would recommend these properties for families looking to relax and enjoy some time at the perfect English seaside!
Good weather great place fantastic beaches
Family 60th birthday, fantastic time, grandkids loved the beach and adults enjoyed some fantastic lime cordials :-)
The house was as lovely as it looked in the photographs.
The property was charming and had space for everyone to relax. We loved all of the details and the furniture was very comfortable. The pathway to Camber Sands was as steep as we were told but the main entrance was very close so we used both. A lovely birthday weekend.
The reason for the four stars was that the bathtub leaked through the kitchen ceiling so we only had the use of two bathrooms one of which was not near the bedrooms.
pleasant house and garden near the beach
Beautiful decor, good bed linen and soft towels, all excellent. We had a good week with mostly fine weather. We were 11 people, five children, six adults, but this is really a house for 10 people or less. We enjoyed the garden, and had some meals outside. One of the planks just outside the kitchen double doors was loose (and dangerous), as one of us nearly fell through it, and we had to keep a stool over it to avoid any other mishap; however, the help came very promptly indeed when the emergency number was phoned, and we also were supplied with 3 or 4 light bulbs at the same time that were needed, but had thought weren't worth ringing the number about. Overall, I would recommend the house, but for 10 people or less.
The following comments are meant to be constructive criticism....
As mentioned in the literature, the upper bunk beds are short, and are only recommended for kids under 10 at the parents' discretion; I should imagine the average height of most ten-year olds nowadays would mean the bunk beds were too short even for them.
The 'double' bed in the alcove would only fit two rather small and intimately related people. The provision of some household items was not complete - only 9 small bowls, 10 goblets, long and short glasses, less than 10 each. No glasses in the bathrooms either meant there was a general shortage. However, the dishwasher worked perfectly and was much in use.
It struck us as odd that the kitchen work surfaces (grey marble) needed to be kept dry and wiped dry all the time - rather impractical for surfaces near a sink.
We could not find any instruction booklet for the cooker.
We would have appreciated information in the red file on local petrol stations/garages, also a map of the local area and post codes would've been helpful in the same red info file.
We wondered what people do about recycling in Camber - there was no information about this and not enough bin bags provided.
Otherwise, the table has chairs for 10, but seats 11 or 12.
We had four cars, and the neighbours were very kind and let us use a space there by arrangement with them. We were told that free parking was also available on the main road - the car parks are expensive.
Stylish and great social spaces both in and out.
The house was perfect for our family group
of all ages and the beach and dunes (be prepared for a bit of a climb over!) wonderful. The pictures tell it just about all. The one thing we were surprised by was the length of the top bunks in the 4 bunk room. Too short for most young people over 12 and not safe (as the house notes suggest) for under 10s. That's the minus one star item. The house space was flexible enough for us to adapt round it though. Would recommend it and I'm pretty sure there'll be strong family demand for another gathering there.
