Lovely one-bedroom apartment with communal pool, mature gardens, mountain views

Newly and fully furnished one-bedroom apartment, in a small, quiet complex in the historical village of Gavalochori, 30 minutes drive from Chania. Ideal for a couple but two more can sleep on comfortable double sofa-bed in lounge. The flat has a covered veranda looking onto the secluded mature gardens and landscaped pool but also onto the spectacular White Mountains just beyond. Surrounded by flowers, carob and olive trees in a wonderful rural Mediterranean ambience. 4 minutes walk from the village square with its traditional coffee shops and tavernas. 6 minutes by car to the famous beach of Almyrida. A perfect location for a relaxing holiday and / or as a launching pad for exploring Crete.

How to get there:

There are many direct flights into Chania airport. Alternatively you can fly into Heraklion airport (the main airport of Crete). Heraklion to Gavalochori is about 90 minutes drive. Another option is to get a connecting flight from Athens airport. There are also daily ferries from Piraeus to Souda/Chania port (about 8 hour trip). A car is highly recommended and there are plenty of local car-hiring companies apart from the majors at Chania airport.

About Aris Sacorafos

We are two semi-retired friends, both originally from Cyprus. About 10 years ago, as a side-venture, we decided to go into small holiday-home developments in Crete, attracted by the close similarities and bonds that traditionally exist between the two islands. We chose the Apokoronas area of Chania district to concentrate these developments, convinced that this was the most beautiful area of Crete. Encouraged by our initial success prior to the Greek crisis, we built our own homes nearby Vamos village, about 5km up the road from Gavalochori and this is where we share our time between Cyprus and Crete. We are completely in love with the area and we never looked back...

Why Aris Sacorafos chose Chania area

MARILENA Apartment was our last completed project before the property crash. Consisting of nine, near-identical, one-bedroom apartments It was purposely-built to attract second-home seekers from Europe wishing to spend much of their time in Crete. We sold 4 out of nine apartments in no time but then the economic crisis hit Greece and property sales collapsed. Encouraged by the Greek Tourist Board relaxation of bureaucratic criteria we quickly changed our objective from sales to holiday rentals. Last summer we fully furnished 4 out of the 5 apartments and enjoyed near full capacity. This year, starting early in the year we have five apartments for rent, all tastefully furnished and we envisage to build on our reputation of being excellent hosts, offering memorable holidays and real value for money to our visitors.

What makes this apartment unique

Amphitheatrically built round the swimming pool and the beautifully landscaped mature gardens, MARILENA APARTMENTS enjoy truly unique views of the spectacular White Mountains of Crete. One rarely has the chance to swim among olive trees and at the same time stare at the breathtakingly beautiful mountains. Each apartment has a covered veranda overlooking the pool and the views where visitors tend to leisurely spend a lot of their time, enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner or just sitting around enjoying a book and a drink between dips in the swimming pool. Alternatively, the well-known but generally uncrowded beaches of Almyrida and Kalyves ore less than 10 minutes away. The centre of the preservation village of Gavalochori is full of excellent little tavernas, only about 400m away, close enough to walk but far enough not to be noisy. If you are the exploring type, Gavalochori is pretty much in the middle of of most well-known sightseeing spots, making these easily accessible within short driving time particularly during the busy summer season.

perfect place for peaceful holiday

The views on the white mountain range is awsome.. We book a second appartment for my in laws, so we were independant but together most of the time ! Was confortable, practical and very clean. The swiming pool is very pretty and nice to swim in (good lenghand not to deep), and premices are very peacefull, especially with 2 beautiful olive trees giving some shade when you rest..! The village is just below, (3 mn walk) and you can get from the baker and traditianal grocery all what you need. and there are nice taverns and cafés, with entertainment at night . The Gavallichori village is cute, as well as Vamos in the nearby. You need a car or a motorbike to go to the seaside (about just 5km from there), and it is worth visiting the surroundings (Chania, Monasteries, cross the mountain to go to the south coast..). But we were also tempted just to stay and relax at the property, walking in the surroundings.(venetian wells not far..).

Gavalochori is right in the middle of everything, yet very quiet and secluded. It is a perfect location in close proximity both of renown beaches (Amnyida, Kalyves), as well as mountains (the village is not the foothills of White Mountains. The village is half-way between Chania and Rehtymnon and visits to these towns are highly recommended as both are considered to be among the prettiest of Greece offering many sightseeing highlights (both towns have old quarters within ancient Venitian walls), shopping sprees for local produce and souvenirs, antiquities, museums (both Chania and Rethymnon have verity respectable ancient history, maritime, art and other kinds of museums. Restaurants are plentiful offering the best of Cretean cuisine at excellent value for money. Day trips to Sfakia (South coast), Falaserna and Elafinisi (West coast) are a must and the fit ones may dare descent the Samaria Gorge. Nearby (15km towards Rethymnon) Kournas fresh-water lake is also a must-see.
