Literally meaning 'Chalet of The Cherries' Chalet Les Cerises boasts the only three cherry trees growing in the pretty Swiss ski resort of Anzere. Originally a summer shelter for the Ayent farmers looking after their herds of Alipne cattle, Chalet Cerises has been converted into a cozy lodge, perfect for ski-ing in winter and walking or cycling in the summer.

At 1500 m (5000 ft) Anzere boasts an amazing snow record and with the chalet's position right next to one of the nursery slopes you can literally ski from the front door to the nearest drag lift - all it takes then is a 500m 'schuss' through a tree lined path and you will be at the main gondoler lift which will take you up the mountain.

Chalet Les Cerises has been owned by an English family since 2007. As keen skiers and lovers of the great outdoors, they have combined summer and winter family holidays with 'restoration' trips over the last 7 years and now rent the property out so others can enjoy the 'Cerises' experience .

Anzere is fairly small by alpine resort standards, but with both North and South facing slopes and stunning tree lined runs there is a great choice of skiing. he appeal of Chalet Les Cerises is undoubtedly its location. This winter wonderland offers a combination of awe inspiring views of some of the largest peaks in the Alps with the magical charm of a quaint traditional village. The doorstep skiing (in and out) is a real treat and will make your skiing experience all the more memorable.

With restaurants and bars to suit most tastes it is still a family orientated resort. Swiss ski school is renowned for its kindergarten and professionalism so whether you are with children or friends (or both) good times and great memories await you at Chalet Les Cerises.

The Chalet includes free indoor car parking (in a separate building) - GROUND FLOOR - Kitchen / diner/ lounge (open plan), snowboot store, FIRST FLOOR - 3x twin/double rooms, 1 x WC, 1 x shower room and 1 x shower/WC, TOP FLOOR - (via ladder stairs) TV/DVD Player, twin/triple room, extra lounge- OUTSIDE- ski room and terrace with table and benches. It has ski in ski out location, and by car is 20 minutes drive from Sion and/or Crans Montanna, 50mins from Verbier and 1.5 hours from Milan by train. Transfer from geneva airport is very easy either by car or train to Sion, then taxi or post bus up to the resort (check web site for times). For this who prefer to drive it is approx 550 miles from Calais and recommendations for overnight places to stay availoable on request.

Lunch can be taken on the mountain, either in one of the many reastaurants, or in a special picnic area, which has vending machines and toilet facilities. As an alternative for the good skiers, lunch can be taken at the chalet. (PLEASE NOTE BEFORE BOOKING - the TOP FLOOR area which has a triple room and kids lounge area doesn't have wardrobes or hanging space - so more suited to young adults and teenagers; Also, the chalet is only accessible by foot in the winter and is a 50m walk from the underground parking)

The owners have always loved the outdor life. From the North of England respectively, they were both taken on route marches as children - so they made sure their own children did the same! Those walks set the scene for a love of the outdoors which is as strong as ever.

Why Tracy Johnson chose Ayent

They were Introduced to the chalet while visiting English friends in the nearby village of Grimisuat. They immidiately fell in love with the area and decided to invest in the chalet 'project' with two other close friends, one of who just happens to be a building expert! . Lucky to be taken skiing as a child, the owners was spoilt with doorstep skiing and Anzere reminded him very much of his second favourite resort - Obergurgl- Martin (the building friend) had climbed just about every peak along the Central Massif - so that was the icing on the cake and the property was bought! With the help of a few local Swiss tradesmen Martin (the building friend) restored the chalet to create a warm and welcoming ski lodge - right on the lower nursery slopes. The experience was enhanced even more when they discovered the wondeful temprement and friendliness of Swiss people who made them feel at home straight away (with a few wine tasting events to break the ice). Now its simply home from home. A typical 'Cerises' day is; Wake the kids; wake the friends; make breakfast; (full english and continental); make sure the beginners get to the lift in time for ski school; back to the chalet; get the ski gear on; Gondola to the top; pitcuresque ski; coffee and chocolate; more picturesque skiing; meet kids for lunch; you guessed it - more beautiful runs, with some off piste to sort the men from the boys; race back down to the chalet to meet the kids; (losers make tea and cakes); Apres-ski bar 'pour un aperot'; shower; dinner (in or out); beat the kids at Triv Monopoly and Scrabble; get beaten by the kids at Texas Hold 'em; bed time; star gaze for a few minutes and admire the view; sleep; Phew!

What makes this chalet unique

Apart from the unique location on the slopes, which I have mentioned, several times, there is something comforting about older buildings especially when they date the people staying in them. This particular chalet was originally used to give shelter to the farmers when they took their herds to the hills in the Summer - and when you look at the wood on the outside walls, its easy to imagine them protecting the people inside from the alpine wind rain and snow. The other amazing thing about this place that everyone should try and witness is the sunrise - which can be done from all four bedrooms. Just set your alarm one morning, open the curtains just before sunrise and look to the mountains in the South West and watch the sky change colour - and then the sun appear - then think how many times that has happened since time began - its a truly humbling experience (sorry if I sound like Gandalf before the battle for Helms Deep)

Anzere has a new spa offering indoor and outdoor pool (summer and winter) jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, massage, hot tub and relaxation area. A wonderful way to unwind after a long days skiing!

Chalet super, propriétaire arnaqueur

Accès direct aux pistes de ski, chalet simple, mais avec tout ce qu'il faut. J'aurais volontiers mis une meilleure note si mes amis et moi ne nous étions pas faits faussement accuser d'avoir cassé des objets (de base en mauvais état), uniquement parce que le propriétaire voulait garder la caution (plusieurs centaines de francs). Dommage ! Du coup, je vous conseille un autre chalet, surtout si vous êtes jeune (ce fut facile pour lui de dire que les jeunes cassent tout).

Owner's Response: ENGLISH - This booking was made by young people between the age of 16 and 18. In normal circumstances I would not allow this but after an appeal from the party leader and her mother, I decided to reverse my decision. They were actually extremely nice people but as a parent myself, of children at a similar age, I know how much young adults drink with their "binge and shots" culture. The breakages were reported to us by our housekeeper who has been with us for 10 years and has never needed to do this before. These were not small items like glasses and crockery-we are talking about a toilet, cotton bedding and a £200 dining chair. It’s worth noting that they did agree to a reduction in the security deposit which itself implies some responsibility. We take a security deposit of £200 for a £500,000 chalet. I think that speaks for itself. FRENCH - Cette réservation a été faite par des jeunes gens entre 16 et 18 ans. Dans des circonstances normales, je ne permettrais pas cela, mais après un appel du chef du parti et sa mère, j'ai décidé d'inverser ma décision. Ils étaient en fait des gens très gentils, mais comme un parent moi-même, d'enfants à un âge similaire, je sais combien les jeunes adultes boivent ces jours-ci avec leur "binge et tirs" de culture. Les brisures nous ont été signalés par notre femme de ménage qui a été avec nous pendant 10 ans et n'a jamais eu besoin de faire cela avant. Ce ne sont pas de petits objets comme les verres et la vaisselle, - nous parlons d'une toilette, literie en coton et une chaise à manger de 200 £. Il est intéressant de noter qu'ils ont accepté une réduction de la caution qui implique elle-même une certaine responsabilité. Nous prenons un dépôt de garantie de 200 £ pour un chalet de 500 000 £. Je pense que cela parle pour lui-même.

a rénover,accès difficile,vieux,mais spacieux

Points positifs : nombreuses chambres, beau parquet, 2 douches, 1 terrasse couverte, jolie vue depuis les étages, à 5 min à pied de tout (coop, piscine, banque). Bien pour le ski.

A améliorer : sécuriser l'accès au chalet (montée de 50 m avec escaliers, finie par une côte raide de 20m sans marches, donc imaginez avec les valises et grands parents... ). Le jardin n'était pas entretenu donc pas possibilité de jouer dehors pour les enfants, pas de mobilier de jardin, cuisine minimaliste surtout avec une capacité de couchage pour 10 personnes (pas de lave vaisselle, presque tout manquait sauf les couverts, petit frigo/freezer digne d'un studio), vieux mobilier vite retapé et canapé sentant l'humidité. Mais le propriétaire va compléter l'équipement rapidement ! A du potentiel.

Anzere is a traditional Swiss ski resort, which also has a wonderful range of summer activities in the mountains and so is perfect for all seasons.

The village looks across to the central massif and some of the highest mountains in Europe, from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn and the views, winter or summer are spectacular.

As a ski resort Anzere is a perfect place for families and groups of friends. The local families preserve their Swiss traditions meticulously and the village square is a hive of activity all through the season.

The skiing is mainly intermediate, but there are plenty of black runs for the daring, and surprisingly good off piste for a village the size of Anzere.

Beginners and toddlers are extremely well catered for here with two superb ski schools and covered conveyor belt ski lifts for the two beginner areas – one at the top, and one in the village.

The real charm of wintersport in Anzere is the ambience. Skiing down idyllic snow-clad tree lined runs with friends and family interspersed with pit stops at the pretty Alpine cafes will provide holiday memories to cherish

Tobogganing is also available from one of the main chairlifts on the ski circuit, and weather permitting there is usually a rink in the village square.

With half a dozen bars and one disco, the atmosphere is friendly reflects the cosmopolitan nature of Valais with French Italian and German influences. The Apres-ski tent at the bottom of the Gondola lift is the ideal place for a hot toddy after a long days skiing and winter walks along the famous Valias Bisse network is a must.

Evenings can be spent either eating in and sampling the wonderful local cheese, wine and produce - all available at the local Co-op - or at one of the local restaurants. The big family table at the Post Pizzeria is a particular favourite – probably because its right next to the Pizza oven.

In the summer months the Alps undergo a transformation. The lush green meadows and wild flowers, sheltered by the evergreen pine trees provide the perfect backdrop for all outdoor activities from hiking or biking around the lakes and mountain paths, to paragliding with the birds on the hazy alpine thermals.

Switzerland itself is a treasure trove of sights and interesting attractions; Within an hour or so drive from Anzere you can play on PGA golf courses, visit the brooding Eiger or Matterhorn, take a step back in time at Chateau Chillion on Lake Geneva (the home of the famous Bishops of Sion), visit the house of Arthur Conan Doyle (and the infamous waterfall) or just sit in the medieval old part of Sion with a cool glass of Fendant and soak up the café culture.

This part of Switzerland, in winter or summer is far more than just mountains and pine trees and as you drive (or take the train) down the Rhone valley and then along Lake Geneva on your way home, you will be thinking about your next trip to this wonderful place.
