About Tim Van Rellim

My family now live in different countries but always spend Christmas (Skiing) and part of their summer holidays in the house.

Why Tim Van Rellim chose Verdon Region

We have owned this villa for a number of years and our children call it their favourite house. Our grand daughter carries on the tradition. It is comfortably furnished as a home to relax in

Great place, getting a little bit old

  • 3 of 5

Hi there,

we enjoyed very much the splendid view, the garden and the pool area, the nice furniture, and had a wonderful week. Richard is a very nice person.

There are some things we would urgently suggest to modify:

- the bathroom doesn't have a good standard any more, in particular the shower is not very attractive, the water doesn't leave very well (takes up to half an hour), and we saw several black worms or centipieds coming out...

- some lamps didn't work or were rather weak, some were very old with damaged isolation at the wires or much dust / death flies on. Some renewal recommended

- there was a huge amount of spider webs in many corners; the cleaning in general could have been better

Anyway we enjyed a lot our holidays there,

regards, Christoph

idyllic get away in the mountains

  • 4 of 5

My family and I spent a lovely two weeks at this charming home in the south of France. The property is well maintained with all the amenities you could want, but the real attraction is the beautiful scenery, and quiet surroundings. We spent our days walking in the surrounding forests, reading books by the fire and had a fantastic Christmas Lunch making use of the local butchers fine turkey.

Having visited in winter we we’re pleased to find skiing on the doorstop at the local resort Varberg only a 45 minute drive away. I can imagine in the summer there is so much more to do as we saw signs for white water rafting on the river, Medieval celebrations in the nearest village Entrevaux, and some lovely looking restaurants that were closed for the season.

My family and I can’t wait to come back and have already looked into staying during the summer months to make use of the house’s swimming pool.

Don't bother unless you like cleaning

  • 1 of 5

Having seen other reviews on how fantastic this place was we were excited and looking forward to a peaceful end to our trip in France. However, this was not to be. The house itself was dirty and appeared not to have had a thorough cleaning for years. There were cobwebs almost everywhere along with spider nests and huge dust balls under all the furniture. We arrived on the Saturday and would have left immediately had we not paid a considerable amount to stay. I complained to the owner and got an apology - nothing else. Having stayed in many different hotels, apartments and villas over the years this was the most disgusting. I found dried bits of food under the sofas, old shoes under one of the beds, along with used tissues and a nasal spray!

I had to wash some of the soft furnishings that were stiff with dirt and dust. In the kitchen by the window was an old sticky fly paper that was full of dead flies - we changed this for a fresh one. There were also broken chairs and a table, broken edges to allegedly new tiles that were sharp, along with the pool lights that didn't work. The wiring was dangerous with multiple extension cables connected together and light fittings that didn't reach the ceiling.

The garden was dry due to a hosepipe ban, which incidentally didn't stop the hosepipe being used to top up the swimming pool. When it did rain on the second evening this brought out an infestation of hundreds, if not thousands of millipedes both inside the house and outside on the patio area, making it unusable as they dropped off the walls and ceiling intermittently. We told the manager who simply said "Yes it’s the rain that brings them out." We were also told that "...they smell if you stand on them" No attempt to deal with the problem. This made the stay even more uncomfortable as we were afraid to get up in the night in case something went crunch under foot! We tried to stop some of them by blocking up the front door with rolled up rugs but this didn't appear to help. Every morning it was a case of sweeping tens of them into a dustpan and throwing them out into a mop bucket. We even had to fish them out of the swimming pool!

This villa has so much going for it but has been left to dilapidation. The peace and quiet was truly wonderful, as was the stunning scenery. However, overall this was an extremely disappointing stay in a villa that could have been perfect with some effort on behalf of the manager to get it clean and repaired.

Owner's Response: We have rented our house for the summer months for the past 15 years and this is the first complaint we have ever received. As I myself had been staying at the house during May and June undertaking a complete professional repaint inside and out I was at a loss and dismayed to receive the e-mailed complaint from our client. I immediately responded and also immediately contacted our property manager to request that action be taken. The client had been pre informed of the incomplete tiling due to a manufacturers delay. Yes the garden was brown with dead grass due to the ongoing drought and could not be watered due to the hosepipe ban. We risked a hefty fine to keep the swimming pool topped up, but felt that the swimming pool was essential whereas the garden would recover once it started to rain. As for millipedes and any other critters, I am afraid that countryside nature is just that and cannot be controlled. It is unfortunate that our client suffered from so many of them. There are no sprays available to destroy them. I can assure future clients that they will not have any cleanliness problems.

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home in the mountains provided us with everything we needed for our stay. The listing description is very accurate and there was plenty room for six of us - we even had an extra visitor for a few days. We loved the gardens, pool, patio, and of course the view. The location is great as not only is there plenty to do in the area, particularly if you like walking and hiking, but it is only 5km from Entrevaux, which is an amazing place.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed an extra couple of days.

Charming house in Haute Provence

  • 5 of 5

A charming and comfortable house situated in a fantastic location with splendid views over the mountains surrounding Entrevaux, a paradise for hikers. The house is fully equiped and well maintained by a friendly host who lives nearby the property. The 5 km trip from the house to Entrevaux (closest shops) looks like an interesting challenge but is perfectly safe if you drive carefully.

Entrevaux is a 2000 year old Roman town with a citadel, nestled among terraced olive groves under an eternal blue sky situated on the Var river 70 kms inland from Nice. It is served year round by train and bus which runs from Nice to the inland city of Digne. The property is situated 5 kms from Entrevaux above a small hamlet called Le Champ which overlooks the citadel in Entrevaux. The area is very scenic and provides river rafting, horse riding, tennis, mountain climbing and mountain biking and hiking for those with a sense of adventure.
