About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom With Stunning Views Surrounded by It's Own Extensive Land

This beautiful 17th-century stone watchtower is an ancient monument set in a spectacular hilltop location surrounded by its own extensive land. The property has recently been converted into a splendid holiday home.

The tower is situated In the midst of volcanic hills in the Veneto province of northern Italy. Designated a national park, the Euganean Hills are famed for their natural beauty, local produce and restaurants. They are within easy access by car (under one hour) from several airports (Venice, Treviso, Verona).

Two double bedrooms and two bathrooms offer comfortable accommodation for 4 adults. The house is finished to a high standard throughout and also offers a lounge, study, reading rooms at the top and bottom of the Tower, and fully equipped kitchen. There is a TV and wi-fi, washing machine, central heating and air conditioning to one bedroom (the other bedroom is cool at the bottom of property!). The tower is extremely private but only 700m from the local village (with restaurants, bar and shops). Outside the property is a wonderful south-facing terrace with fabulous views across the hills. All terrace furniture is provided.

The Hills are a great place to relax. The area offers wonderful walking and cycling opportunities for the energetic, wine tasting at the many local vineyards and a full range of eating experiences. The ancient town of Este, with a twice-weekly market, a full range of independent shops and several supermarkets is only 15 minutes away by car. The classic cities of the Veneto are within easy reach Vicenza (40 mins), Padua (40 mins), Venice (60 mins), Verona (45 mins) and Ferrara (50 mins). The main rail link to Venice and Bologna is 15 minutes drive if you prefer to leave your car.

The house is on a number of levels and is not advised for visitors with limited mobility. No pets and no children under 16 years. No smoking. We recommend visitors have a car. No hidden costs or charges.

About Nigel and Beth Walsh

Beth and Nigel are an active semi-retired couple from Norfolk, UK. Beth is a lacemaker, textile artist and an academic. Nigel is a passionate cyclist and a competing bike racer. Both enjoy property renovation and love the Italian way of life.

Nigel and Beth Walsh purchased this house in 2006

Why Nigel and Beth Walsh chose Padova area

We were looking for a property in the Veneto that was situated a little bit away from the main tourist destinations. The Euganean Hills are an ideal location and we were helped in our search for the right property by a local lawyer who has become a close friend. The renovation of the property was undertaken with the close supervision of the local mayor and the antiquities commission in Venice. When we completed the renovation we held a large party for all who had been involved. We even had the President of the Veneto welcome us to Italy - it turned out his country home was at the bottom of the hill!

What makes this house unique

Sitting outside on a summer's evening you can see the local volcanic hills in one direction, the plain leading all the way to Tuscany in another, and finally the white capped Alps can been glimpsed through the trees - a truly magical location!

Sit at the top of the tower and read a book and you will drift away into holiday heaven.

Catch a train and you can be in the unique city of Venice, take a car and explore Verona, Vicenza or Ferrara. If you fancy a spritz with the locals, how about Este, Montagnana, the list goes on ...

Beautifully Renovated Country Setting

  • 4 of 5

The results of what must have been no small undertaking in renovating this lovely country watchtower offer a unique and rare view of life in rural Italy. The opportunity to enjoy the peace and quiet of this hilltop sanctuary, all the while benefiting from the most modern and comfortable facilities inside the home, led us to wish we had booked for a longer stay. A personal vehicle for getting around is a must; but one view from the terrace sets off the urges for hiking as well. Our hosts could not have been more detailed in the information they provided to make our visit pleasant and restful.

Spectacular views from a fabulous property.

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully restored and maintained property in a fabulous secluded location. Interesting features with windows on all sides to see the views for miles all around. . Excellent base for walking I the Eugenee Hills but also good for visits to Venice, Ferrara Vincenca and Padua. You certainly need to hire a car but plenty to go and see. We particularly liked the local town of Este with lovely castle gardens full of fragrant roses and the cafe within the gardens where we had an excellent Italian lunch. Let them surprise you. It was superb, and the local vineyard at Faedo , Ca Lustre. Excellent wine tasting and good wines to buy. Would definitely recommend. Property true to description in listing.

Très bel endroit

  • 5 of 5
