The Red House River Cabin is 1550 luxury square feet and approximately 200 feet from the West Branch of the Delaware River. It sits directly in front of one of the best wild trout fishing holes in the Northeast.
The cabin comes with a fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and newly renovated open floor plan with living room with cable TV, and Internet - great for entertaining. We are always making improvements to our property and last season's project included two completely renovated, gorgeous bathrooms. Reflecting our pride of ownership, this season's renovations feature a brand new kitchen with a new Frigidaire Gallery 5 burner gas convection range. Other new appliances include a brand new dishwasher and microwave.
The Red House River Cabin is beautiful and comfortable for fishermen as well as non-fishing people. The Red House River Cabin has a covered porch and a 600 sq.ft. deck with patio furniture for outdoor entertaining. Perfect for family get-togethers, couples rendezvous or romantic get-away. Enjoy a private, secluded setting with friends, business people or by yourself for some 'R&R.' Golf courses are within minutes, 3 ski areas are within one hour and a state park with a swimming beach is 15 minutes away. Mountain biking trails nearby or you can bring your canoe or kayak and launch down the road. Come to fish or to relax. Enjoy.
Fishing the Upper Delaware: The Upper Delaware is some of the best dry fly fishing in the East. Serious hatches begin in April with the Hendrickson, Quills, and evolve into the hatches of March Browns and Sulphurs in May. The last few years I have fished sulfur patterns from May until September. Of course, you can always count on various doses of caddis and blue winged olives throughout the season and of course the mysterious tricos on misty summer mornings. There are plenty of riffles and braids to try your favorite nymphs as well. When the water is a little higher, don't be afraid the bang the banks with big streamers whether you are wading or in a boat. The River Cabin is across from the Gentleman's Pool access, canoes can be launched here too. Stilesville and Indian Country drift boat launches are each within about two miles.
Other Activities: Golf, skiing, hunting, and general outdoor pursuits are all within short driving distances. Oquaga State Park is within 6 miles and includes a beach, golf, hiking, and fishing. Other golf courses include the Hancock Golf Course and French Woods about 14 and 20 miles respectively. Elk Mountain skiing is 34 miles, Hunter and Windham are each about 95 miles. As the gateway to the Catskill Mountains and Delaware River Valley you are in the perfect area to explore small towns, hike mountains, and simply get lost! There are several spas in PA and NYS within 30 to 40 miles. Be sure to look for the nesting bald eagles across the street!
Your invitation: We invite you to enjoy our home as we enjoy it. We have personally taken part in all the activities we mention in the descriptions above. We will do our best to put you on the right flies, recommend the right restaurant, and give the best directions we can to make your stay enjoyable. If you are here to fly-fish, imagine fishing for a couple of hours in the morning and then taking in nine holes of golf and still be back on the river in time for the evening hatch! If you don't fish, come and enjoy the peace and quiet and what nature has to offer all in the comfort of a 1500 square foot home away from home.
My husband and I and our 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are from the Syracuse, New York area, but recently relocated to the Richmond, VA area. We love to travel with our dogs and they are our 'furr-kids'. My husband is an avid fly fisherman and that kind of directs all of our travels, including Belize. We are also history people and love to sightsee wherever we go. We have been going to Belize for the last 16 years.
Tina Winkler purchased this cabin in 2009
We had another property listed with Homeaway, the Red House. It began to rent out so much that my husband had no where to fish, so we bought this property, the Red House River Cabin, back in 2009. While it met our purposes, we immediately set out to make this property our own by steadily making improvements. 2015's project was two completely renovated bathrooms and an open floor plan between kitchen and living room. 2016's project is a brand new kitchen!! We are very excited to hear the feedback from our repeat guests (all of our May and June guests are repeat guests whom we consider friends) and our new guests!
We love the fact that the Red House River Cabin sits back far from the road and is secluded without being far from town. It is bordered by cornfields on the backside and just really gives the cabin even more privacy. The other reason why it is so great is because it is on the no-kill section of the West Branch of the Delaware River. This is world class fly fishing at its best!
Our family of 5 (and occasional friends) have been blessed with the Winkler's love of fishing! We have frequented both of the cabins they own in the Hancock area between 2009-2011 and have only the fondest memories. We miss our visits and hope to return some day.
Both the Red House in Hancock and the Red House River Cabin in Deposit are well-kept, well-decorated, and welcoming. Our family has felt comfortable as if at home at both of these locations and the owners couldn't be more accommodating.
We have stayed at the Red House in Hancock during all seasons and have been quite comfortable. Along with the cabin itself, the remote surroundings are also peaceful and relaxing. There were a few occasions where our visit to Hancock fell on dates already booked at the Red House and we sorely missed our home away from home when this happened!
When the Winkler's purchased the Red House River Cabin in Deposit, we did not hesitate to rent their new cabin. It's larger, allowing for more friends to join us. We even had a graduation party at this location in June 2011 and the barbeque, porch and manicured lawns were delightful amenities for our celebration!
During our stays, and since, the Winkler's continue to make updates and improvements on the properties (not that they were needed). I would recommend staying at either property at any time whenever in the area!
My party of four spent another enjoyable week at the cabin on our second stay, the newly renovated kitchen provides you with everything you need (except food) to enjoy your stay. The cabins quiet location offers you an excellent opportunity to view nature at its best, be it the bald eagles along the river in the front of the cabin to the deer in the fields in the back of the cabin. It’s always a pleasure dealing with Tina the owner. Our group is looking forward to more future stays
We had a great stay at the cabin! We are a family of 5 adults and we brought two of our three dogs. Everyone had a really wonderful time! The cabin is in a great setting just across from the river. Very scenic! Its very well kept and well stocked with everything we needed. We were very comfortable in the master bedroom with attached bath. The living room is very comfortable for a family of 6 or 7. The kitchen is great! Modern appliances and lots of room! Tina was very accommodating with anything we needed, and easy to reach. I asked about other bath towels as the ones we found were very worn. She was quick to offer to reimburse us for any towels we wanted to buy! I'm sure she'll replace them asap. We went to the Koo Koose Grill and Butterfields and loved them! Butterfield's is a real find! Such friendly people and amazing food in a cozy atmosphere! George spoke very highly of the Red House owners. Thoroughly enjoyed our night out at Koo Koose too. Very quaint town of Deposit, can't wait to visit again!
Needing a place to spend Christmas with my family this year, I am so very happy we found the cabin and have no words to thank Tina! The cabin is not only beautifully decorated, but done so in a away that makes it feel so warm and comfortable.
Cooking Christmas dinner for my large family was no problem as the well equipped kitchen had everything I would find in my own kitchen. The living room and kitchen are so spacious that there was ample room for all of us to eat, relax, and open presents around the Christmas tree with both rooms decorated very festively thanks to Tina's gracious offer of her Christmas decorations!
I would definitely recommend staying at The Red House River Cabin not only for the amazing property it is but also due to the fact that Tina truly goes above and beyond to make your stay wonderful.
Fishing, hunting cabins need fireplaces.
The Red House River Cabin was all my family expected and more. Needing a place to stay for the long weekend for a family wedding at the West Branch Angler Resort, we wanted a quieter place to stay but close enough to the resort to not have to drive too far. Your property filled every requirement. The cabin was clean, well maintained, and decorated nicely. Also, the kitchen was well stocked with any utensil/cooking vessel needed (except a pitcher to make ice tea). The cabin was equipped with everything for our stay including towels!
Sitting on the deck in the early morning just after sunrise with a cup of coffee... just me, the mist, and the Canadian geese honking, was my favorite past time.
Knowing we'd be returning to the solitude of your cabin, (after the family bbq, the rehearsal dinner, the wedding) we knew our energy would be restored for the next day's festivities. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
We enjoyed our stay at the Red House River Cabin in Deposit NY. Our group had a very relaxing time fishing, swimming at the Oquaga Creek State Park, walking and checking out the sites and restaurants. The house was completely decorated with beautiuful wall hangings, furniture, brand new kitchen. Truly a home away from home.! It was completely furnished for our use and ready to move in when we arrived. The front porch is ideal for relaxing and reading a book allowing time to slow down with all the comforts of home. Tina and her husband have done a wonderful job providing this home for the avid fly fishing men and women and families. They also are wonderful to work with and we would recommend this vacation home to anyone. Sincerely, George and Kathy Estey
