Charming Rural Gite In Lot Valley

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

The beautiful views are rural, over the fields to the limestone cliffs.

Poppy Cottage is a charming gite in the peaceful village of Gaillac, just 4km from the lovely town of Cajarc set in the Lot in south west France. The beautiful views are rural, over the fields to the limestone cliffs.

Poppy Cottage has been renovated to a high standard, giving comfortable accommodation for 2-4 people. Poppy Cottage has attractive arched windows and doors. You will find a spacious sitting room with views over the terrace and surrounding countryside. The seating area has a small sofa and a sofa bed, providing extra sleeping accommodation if necessary. There is an antique wood burning stove for cooler evenings.

The dining area has a table and four chairs, and is near a door through to the kitchen which is equipped with a modern gas cooker and fridge, but retains the old sink. There is plenty of new crockery and glassware.

The bedroom has a very comfortable double bed (king size 160cm) and plenty of storage space in the wardrobe and chest of drawers. The newly fitted shower room has a basin set in a vanity unit, a WC and a walk-in shower.

The poppy theme is visible throughout the cottage which is decorated in a smart red and white colour scheme, with poppy print curtains, bedding etc. Good quality linen and towels are provided free.

Feel free to relax in the lovely garden to cool off after a busy day sightseeing, and then sit on the sunny terrace or in the shade of the walnut tree with a glass of wine. If you need to keep in touch, there is free wireless internet.

Our French Idyll

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned to stay in Poppy Cottage for five weeks and had a wonderful holiday. We had spent a month there in 2015 and can confirm that it is a fantastic base for exploring the wonderful medieval towns and villages of the area. We also canoed the Lot and Cele rivers during our stays.

The Gite is well appointed (We fed five from the kitchen several times!!) the view from the terrace is wonderful and the garden is a beautiful cool haven on a hot day. Caroline is a superb host, always happy to offer help and advice and Bounty the dog is so welcoming. There are lovely walks and drives in the area, taking in all the fantastic views. Caroline provides a very detailed information pack, with info on places to visit, restaurants, markets etc, which is extremely useful.

We recommended this property to Alan B who also thoroughly enjoyed his holiday (see his review).

We hope to return, as it now feels like home away from home.

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This property was recommended to us by friends who have gone there twice, for a month each time. It is ideal for us, a couple who like our privacy, but still have the personal touch of the owner when required. Caroline is a great host, and her welcome and local knowledge is second to none.

I'd like to confirm that the work required by a previous reviewer has been done and to a high standard.

The Gite itself was spotless and well-appointed for our needs, and the views from the terrace are terrific. The garden at the rear is paradise for a quiet lunch under the trees, listening to the birds singing above.

The area around the property is typical rural France with friendly people everywhere we went.

We hope to return, and would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.

fair to good

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much Caroline is very helpful and hospitable, but the garden was in a very untidy state, that was being sorted as we were leaving though,we found the cottage adequate, clean and tidy. but the patio and stairs from the road needs attention as many loose slabs which for those that might be a bit unsteady on their feet could be a little dangerous, all information re restaurants places of interest were at hand, and Caroline was always ready to advise, yes would recommend it to family and friends if the points mentioned were sorted, but all in all a very nice break.

Owner's Response: Fair comments. Sadly a very wet Spring and ill health had combined to defeat my gardening efforts. The garden is now looking lovely again, and a regular gardener will keep it that way. The terrace has been repaired and there are no longer any loose stones.
