About Nathan & Jennifer Miller

We have enjoyed family vacations to Cold Mountain since 1987 when my Grandmother built the cabin. In 2006, we completed an extensive renovation and decided to offer the property to vacationers. It brings us great joy to see our guests enjoy the cabin and create lifelong memories with their friends and families as well.

Nathan & Jennifer Miller purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Nathan & Jennifer Miller chose Canton

We have been visiting the Waynesville area for many years, and is a special place indeed. We love the balance between the rustic charm of Waynesville, the eclectic urban sophistication in Asheville, and the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, and the limitless outdoor activities. The cabin is ideally situated to reach all of our favorite places easily, and we love the setting on Cold Mountain that offers us complete privacy and serenity.

What makes this cabin unique

We could write a book about all there is to enjoy in the area. At the top of the list is a day in Asheville visiting the Biltmore house or Arboretum and checking out the eclectic shops and restaurants downtown. The town of Waynesville offers dozens of bookstores, coffee shops, art galleries, and fantastic dining opportunities. When it's time for the great outdoors, we head up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to our favorite hiking spots: Devil's Courthouse, Black Balsam Knob, or Graveyard Fields waterfall. During the warmer months, we enjoy horseback riding at Cataloochee Ranch, and of course skiing in the winter. Perhaps our favorite pastime is having a campfire on the deck after dinner and gazing up at the stars.

Cold Mountain Cabin great as always

  • 5 of 5

Nathan, Jennifer, thanks a lot for your awesome cabin!

We enjoyed it greatly again.

Awesome view from the deck, campfire at night, movies, hot tea, and some cognac in the evening - it was a great time. We made the trip to Smoky Mountains Park twice, walked in Gatlinburg, rode the cable tramway to Ober mountain site. Lots of great memories.

Quiet, secluded cabin

  • 4 of 5

Cabin was very nice, just the right size for the four of us. Liked that each bedroom had its own bathroom. The night temperatures went in the low 30’s so it got a bit chilly. The only heat was the pellet stove, which we did not leave running all night. Didn’t know if it would work all thru the night or possibly run out of the pellets. Lots of windows let in plenty of light, the cabin was nice and clean. We did not do any cooking because we were out and about and only came back at night so we ate out. However, we did use the coffee maker in the morning. The kitchen looked to be stocked with what you would need to cook meals. The view off the deck was beautiful. The drive up to the cabin was not as steep as some cabins we’ve rented, but the turn to the cabin was a little tricky. We had to back up and couple of time to make the swing into the driveway. Once at the cabin, you had to maneuver a bit to turn around in the limited space to get back out of the driveway. But the cabin and views are worth it.

The towns of Waynesville, Cashier and Asheville are short drives with shopping, and good food.

Hummingbirds & A Flying Squirrel, Oh My!

  • 5 of 5

Where to begin? First, tranquility abounds the moment one steps from the vehicle at this beautiful home. If majestic mountain views, a leafy lullaby, and the soothing sound of a mesmerizing creek call to your heart this is the answer. The sounds of Nature rule supreme here, soulfully!

Next, this location is well suited for individuals who desire a diversity within their agenda. One is approximately 30 minutes to downtown Waynesville and about the same in the opposite direction to the Blue Ridge Parkway. And if driving to Waynesville for groceries at Ingles is not appealing after a long day of hiking (or relaxing on the deck) the Dollar General is only about fifteen minutes from the house. Fly fishers will be pleased to find a nice little spot on Lake Logan Road just 15-20 minutes away. Once past Lake Logan (heading towards the Parkway) look for a large grass parking area on the left where one can access the river.

Lastly, and most importantly, a word about the owners, Nathan and Jennifer. Though our vacation was scheduled well ahead of Hurricane Irma, we nonetheless fell victim to her wrath along with so many others. As our check in date approached we were overwrought with concerns about leaving our home unattended, without power, and with a damaged roof. Of other importance to us were the reports received about power outages (as a result of the remnant of Irma) ranging into Western NC. Because of these things we contacted Nathan and Jennifer to share our concerns, and were met with compassion above reproach. The offer that was extended to us ranged from adjusting our arrival and departure dates one day before or after the scheduled dates, to rescheduling the entire nine days for another time. Flexible, yes. But beyond that, highly honorable!

Oh, as an added bonus, we had hummingbirds visit us everyday throughout the day, and even a little flying squirrel made a cameo appearance.

Base camp for the Blue Ridge

  • 5 of 5

Our family (three of us, including a toddler) really enjoyed staying at this cabin. The location is secluded. We never saw neighbors and enjoyed great peace and quiet. The cabin is well stocked, immaculately clean, and had all the modern necessities. The location is great - 30 minutes or so to Asheville and the highest points of the Blue Ridge Parkway (and many trails, enough for a week). The owners are kind, genuine and are invested in making your trip a lot of fun. Remember the cabin is heated solely by a pellet stove. It's not difficult to maintain 70-degrees overnight or to operate the stove. If you can press a button then you can heat the cabin! There was a washer and drier which are useful for refreshing clothes. The nearest grocery store is about 25 minutes away, so think ahead on arrival stopping in Asheville, Canton or Waynesville. The access road is dirt and gravel but any car could make the drive. I can tell you this cabin felt like home - we slept great every single night and will remember for a long time taking breakfast on the porch with a great view and crisp mountain air.

Very comfortable and relaxing

Definitely enjoyed our stay. It was everything we had hoped for it to be. The housekeeper that we met on our first day of arrival was extremely nice. We would definitely recommend the property.
