Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Fowey - Rose Cottage

2 bed cottage, private garden, close to central Fowey, families & pets welcome

Rose Cottage is a beautiful double fronted Cornish Cottage located just a few minutes walk from the centre of Fowey. It provides comfortable luxury accommodation for family holidays, couples sharing or romantic getaways.

Hidden from view, steps lead up to the cottage where a gate opens onto a perfect private suntrap patio garden complete with table, chairs and a bench for enjoying sunny breakfasts and a quiet a glass of wine al fresco. It is also an extra added bonus for families, allowing a safe outside area to play, note the garden has a gate.

The cottage is fully equipped for babies, toddlers and older children and we will also accept pets by prior arrangement.

Inside the cottage is decorated in calming comfortable tones, perfectly matched to the seaside light. There are 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin bedded room, both with enough space for a cot. The bathroom is newly fitted with a bath, shower over, toilet and basin. There is also an additional separate toilet set in a curious nook at the end of the upstairs landing.

Downstairs a spacious lounge comprises 2 plump comfortable sofas with LCD TV, DVD player and freeview, fireplace and a rainy day cupboard with plenty of books/movies/board games and toys for the younger ones.

The eat-in kitchen is also recently refurbished with modern country style units, a slate floor and a large family table and chairs seating 6. It is fully equipped with washer/dryer, dishwasher, smeg oven/electric hob, microwave and large standalone fridge/freezer.

Rose Cottage provides the perfect sunshine holiday or winter break. Its ideal location means you can spend your holiday without having to use a car. With just a few minutes walk to the shops/cafes and restaurants of Fowey, the nearby beach of Ready money cove, the harbourside and the ferries. This is a hideaway cottage that will provide a magical holiday in Fowey with all this delightful harbourside town has to offer.

There is space outside to park for loading and unloading but for overnight and longer stays please use one of the town's public car parks. The nearest one is at the top of town about a 5 to10 minute walk from the cottage.

Why Claire Douglas chose Newquay & St Austell area

We visited Fowey and Were immediately taken with the area, when we saw Rose Cottage it was love at first sight and we have enjoyed visiting and sharing it ever since!

What makes this cottage unique

Cosy, traditional yet spacious and welcoming, in a great location for a relaxed holiday!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Really lovely cottage in a great location. Very close to local shops and pubs and the car park is very close (if you don't mind hills). We had a 8 month baby with us and the house was perfectly suited. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely cottage but windows do not open.

  • 3 of 5

When we arrived the cottage looked lovely, and very cosy. Great location and nice size rooms. The only main issue I have is the bedroom windows would not open, therefore we hardly slept whilst we were there as the week we were there, it was 22/23 degrees and rooms were very hot with no air. Knowing my son was in the room on his own, knowing the windows would not open was a slight worry incase anything happened.

Apart from the this the cottage was a nice stay, just would of been more enjoyable if we managed to sleep.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at Rose Cottage. I am sorry that the upstairs windows were an issue - we discovered during your stay that as they had been recently repainted they had stuck shut. Having heard of the problem we quickly contacted the decorator who I believe visited on the day you left to make sure they were fully opening as they should be, which they now are. If you would like to contact me directly we would like to offer you a return visit to Rose Cottage at.a reduced rate. Thanks Claire

Nicely decorated

  • 4 of 5

The location of the cottage is perfect and Fowey is beautiful. The cottage is very well equipped and nicely decorated. The bathroom was good. It could have been perfect, but some rooms, especially the living room, smelt rather damp (we stayed there during the summer and we did air the rooms regularly). The cottage wasn't quite spic and span, either (which I would expect for a so called "luxury cottage"): The inside of the kitchen cupboards and drawers were rather dusty, sofa and carpet stained. Also, the mattresses were a little worn out. So all in all the flat unfortunately did not quite live up to its website promises. I intended to rate it with 3 stars, but with regular and proper cleaning it will deserve 4 stars.

Fantastic Location

  • 3 of 5

we stay in Fowey every year, normally in different cottages. However stayed in Rose Cottage last year and booked again this year. The only reason we scored it down to three stars was the bathroom was tired. However the owners have installed a new bathroom so I am sure after our next visit it will get five stars. This is our favourite part of Fowey. Not too close to the church (bells) and close to a great pub. Just a gentle stroll and your in the heart of Fowey

This region of Cornwall has a beautiful coastline and much to entertain a short distance away.

Among the top attractions are the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the nearby historical port of Charlestown. There are also regular steam train trips from Bodmin railway, Wheal Martyn China Clay musem and the fabulous Restormel castle in Lostwithiel.

The coast of North Cornwall is only about 30 minutes drive away and the interesting towns of Truro and Falmouth (with its award winning national maritime museum) are easily accessible.

Fowey is a beautiful yet secluded spot in South Cornwall. As it is not a town that many 'pass through' it has managed to escape the more commercial side of tourism and retains a lovely laid back but quietly sophisticated feel. Those that visit, feel they have found somewhere special, hence why so many return year after year.

As a harbourside town there are beautiful views through many small gaps in the houses to the water and boats with many boat trips operating from the harbour, on trips upriver and across to the small pretty facing town of Polruan.

The shops are perfect for pottering around with a fantastic array of specialist stores from a traditional sweet shop to the fishmongers and artisan bakers. Cafes and restaurants focus on quality with an elegant tea rooms and cosy Bistro alongside luxury riverfront restaurant dining, ideal for tasting the local Fowey River mussels.

Just a short walk along the Esplanade the Fowey Hotel provides the perfect setting for a Cornish cream tea with a view and pitstop before reaching the delightful sheltered bay of Readymoney Cove.

Fowey is the perfect place to enjoy a getaway holiday but whilst feeling like you have everything you need on your doorstep in a beautiful location.

Within easy reach along the coast are great walking trails and beaches from the open sands at Par to Polkerris with its watersports, pub and gallery. Across the river is the stunning Lantic Bay and picture postcard Talland Bay.
