About Charmaine Brown

I have lived here since 2007, and it's like being on holiday all the time! The changing scenery, through all the seasons, is wonderful to see, and I so enjoy sharing it with others.

There's always a lot to do (a bit like the Forth Bridge or the Eiffel Tower), so it keeps us busy.

The pace of life in France is quite laid back - so different from the daily commute to London.

And, of course, there's wine!

Charmaine Brown purchased this villa in 2007

Why Charmaine Brown chose Montpeyroux

Le Manoir is in a stunning setting, with beautiful views in every direction.

The Estate spreads over 98 acres, the nearest neighbour being quite a distance away, so it is completely private.

This is the place the 'chill', and appreciate Nature in all her forms. There are nightingales to listen to, deer to spot in the fields, sunrise and sunsets to try to capture with a camera, amazing stars (no light pollution), and, the other week, the end of the rainbow was in one of the lakes - spectacular! I asked my son to go down there so that I could take a photo of him, where one should find the pot of gold, but he declined. "Mum, it's in the lake! I'll get wet." Silly me.

What makes this villa unique

There is a certain magic about Le Manoir. People who come here can't believe how quickly they can relax and unwind.

There are stunning views in every direction, and this is the perfect place to see Nature at her best.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Charmaine was the perfect host in the perfect location. There is nothing more we could have asked for. The photos don't do the Maison justice and our breath was taken away as we pulled up the long drive towards to the property. Each bedroom having an en suite was perfect and everything about the house was great. Charmaine was on hand to answer any questions and give us advice on all the local events and attractions. Thank you

There is a lot to do and see in the area, more than mentioned here. We have a suggestions book, with details of places, distance and time to get there. Some guests prefer to just sit back and relax at Le Manoir, perhaps by the pool with a glass of wine.

Peace in paradise

  • 5 of 5

As we pulled up the drive the views, peace and silence was breathtaking. What a sanctuary to spend a week in. Charmaine was the perfect host! Nothing was too much for her (even helping us when our car battery died). The area is fantastic you can do as much or as little as you like. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Le Manoir de Gurson definitely has that 'WOW' fact

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from our extended family holiday at Le Manoir. My party comprised of 8 adults and 2 children aged 18 months and 20 months. Some of the group flew in to Bergerac airport and the rest of us drove from Cherbourg. On our arrival Charmaine and her son Tim provided and joined us for a lovely BBQ which we had in the evening sunshine on the poolside patio. A good chance to get to know each other and a brilliant start to our stay.

When we arrived at Le Manoir and we saw the house for the first time from the top of the drive we all said, "Wow". The house is truly impressive. The five en-suite bedrooms were all a good size and the big kitchen, lounge, dining room and downstairs entrance hallways provided plenty of room both for group socialising and for those who wanted a quiet space. The kitchen is equipped with every appliance and gadget you will need. The adjacent barn houses the laundry room which is available for guests' use. There is free wifi with internet access. Also British television and a DVD player.

The private pool is at the rear of the house by the patio and lawned area from which there are extensive views over the surrounding countryside and the estate fishing lakes.

Lac de Gurson is about 20 minutes walk away and has a sandy beach, toilets, canoe hire as well as bar/restaurant facilities and free car parking as well.

The nearest town of Villefranche de Lonchat is about a 20 minute cycle away. It has a couple of small shops selling the everyday necessities. Every Friday evening the town hosts a 'night market' which is a must for it's range of food.

Members of our group visited Arcachon (less than 2 hours by car), Bordeaux ( about an hour by car), and the nearer beautiful towns St Emillion and Aubeterre. The local quiet roads are ideal for safe cycling. The Dordogne is about 30 minutes away with opportunities for canoeing and sightseeing.

So, Le Manoir is ideal for those who just wish to laze by the pool (or play table tennis, boules, go fishing or cycling) and also for those who wish to tour the local area including the renowned vineyards of St Emillion.

All our group enjoyed our stay at Le Manoir, particulary the space in the house. There is nothing to dislike.

This review would not be complete without a special mention for Charmaine who, without being intrusive, was always on hand for any query about what to do/where to go etc. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she always has a smile. A great holiday venue.
