Luxury Farmhouse, Beautiful Private Pool near beaches in Sant Lluis Menorca

Bedrooms 5
Space 2,884 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

5 Bedroom 5 Bathroom Farmhouse with stunning pool and outside entertaining areas

Our lovely farmhouse, Ca’n Taa, has recently been luxuriously renovated. It has a private pool and terrace surrounded by palm trees which are lit at night. The main house at one end of the pool has three bedrooms, at the other end is a guest house / casita with two bedrooms. All bedrooms have reverse cycle air-conditioning, and all have their own bathroom, four of which are en-suite. There is 50 mbps wi-fi throughout the property with a router booster allowing access in the pergola and casita. The living area in the main house is open plan with the kitchen opening on to the lounge and dining area, and out through double doors to the terrace.

Ca’n Taa is approached along a gravel drive between dry stone walls, with an orchard on one side. Beds of bougainvillea, lavender and rosemary greet you, with plumbago growing over the traditional oven outside the front door.

The front door opens on to a spacious hall, which leads into the open plan living area. Going through onto the terrace, you find yourself in a completely private space. The terrace, garden and beautiful pool are surrounded by a high dry-stone wall, except where there is a thick olive grove. There are plentiful sun-loungers for every guest, three of which are extremely comfortable doubles, with many sunbrellas.

To one side of the pool is a large covered pergola, this has an outdoor lounge, BBQ, and dining table for ten. Next to the pergola is the ‘Barracuda Bar’ named for the corrugated iron fish decorating its front, this has a music system and fridge. We stock the bar fully at the start of the season and ask that guests re-stock as they use, and this has worked very well. The pool, terrace, pergola, bar and palm trees all have lighting so you can enjoy balmy summer evenings.

The pool is 10 by 5 metres, with sweeping steps at one end. It has dark blue mosaic tiles which make it quite dramatic and ha couple of degrees warmer than normal. The pool is also unusual in that it has no shallow or deep end; it is all 1.50 metres deep, this makes it great for swimmers or teenagers’ games but unsuitable for small children. In common with most other pools in Spain it is not fenced.

Down a short path off the pool terrace is an even more secluded sunken sunbathing area. This area is the perfect place for those who want an all over tan.

Beside the casita, under a shady olive grove, we have two hammocks and behind the casita is a full sized petanque court. We have eight sets of petanque balls, six for adults with different weights and diameters, and two which are children’s sizes.

There is a gas BBQ in the chimenea in the pergola, and a chill out zone in a quiet corner of the garden.

Inside the main house the open plan living area has seating and dining for ten. The living room has a music system and a Smart LG TV which has Sky and Sky Sports by satellite, a subscription to Netflix and many other channels accessible over the internet. There is also a Blu Ray / DVD player with 5:1 surround sound.

The kitchen is fully equipped with two ovens, a five ring hob, large fridge-freezer and dishwasher. There is also a large laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, water softener, and the reverse osmosis filter for the drinking water tap in the kitchen.

Upstairs there is the Master bedroom with a large (or European) super-king bed, 200cms x 200cms and an open en-suite bathroom and with its own terrace. There are two further bedrooms downstairs. One with a super-king sized bed that can be made up as a twin room with its own large en-suite shower room. The other a twin room which has its own but separate shower room. All bedrooms have reverse cycle air-conditioning.

The casita has two large air-conditioned bedrooms. One room has a large (5'3" 160 cms) king sized bed and the other a super-king which could be made a twin. Both bedrooms have modern en-suite shower rooms. One has a small fridge and tea making equipment and a microwave if needed for heating babies bottles etc. Each room has a sofa and one a TV with DVD player. Outside on the terrace there is a small round teak table, where casita guests can enjoy their morning tea.

To the front of the house there is an orchard with about 20 assorted soft fruit trees, peach, apricot, nectarine etc. There are also citrus trees: lemons, limes, tangerines and a grapefruit tree. Lemons and limes are generally available all year as the next crop often arrives before the last has finished. On the other side of the drive is a large fig tree, which fruits later in the summer.

The house is in the South Eastern corner of Menorca, close to the popular resorts of Binibeca, Punta Prima, Alcaufar and S'Algar. What we offer in Ca'n Taa is a quieter more rural holiday, but one which is only minutes away by car from of all of these beaches.

While private, we are not isolated, there are three good restaurants within walking distance for those who prefer not to drive; Villa Madrid and La Caraba towards Sant Lluis and Binissafullet Vell towards Binisafuller. In spite of its name Villa Madrid offers an affordable range of Italian cuisine and is best known for its wood fired pizzas. La Caraba is very Spanish, it is fine dining and for what it is, not expensive, it is unfortunately only open 1st June to 28th September. We have also just added the Agroturismo hotel Binissafullet Vell to our recommended list, it is run by an Italian couple and everyone we know describes it as really good home cooking.

Between the two restaurants towards Sant Lluis is the family run supermarket Sa Botiga, rated by many as the best on the island, with great butcher, deli and vegetable counters, the latter with a table solely for Menorquin produce. They also have an excellent baker.

Further beyond La Caraba into Torret, are two other good restaurants the highly rated Pan y Vino and Sa Pedrera, probably too far too walk to these.

Very close to us, about 300 meters up our road to the North, is the Menorca Cricket Club, this is said to be the prettiest ground in the Med. Anyone is welcome to stop by to watch a game and have a drink. We play visiting teams April to October on Saturdays and Sundays, except for July and August when on Wednesdays and Saturdays there are make-up games arranged for any visitors who want to play, ages from about ten up. Kit provided. The real MCC came to play us early in 2014 and they were so impressed they hosted a tournament on our ground in 2015, and returned again for the first weekend of our 2017 season.

Further in this direction is Llumaҫanes, their local fiesta with an impressive Jaleo is the first weekend in August. In 2018 a new Italian restaurant has opened here, Sa Brasa, which does home delivery in the summer months.

The house is managed by a professional local company with a 24 hour contact number. The house is accredited by the Menorca Commission for Tourism Quality, licence number ET0895ME

About Fiona Wignall

We are an English couple who purchased this house nine years ago when we moved to Menorca after sailing across the Atlantic with the ARC rally. Now having fully renovated we have decided to rent out our lovely farmhouse in the summer.

Fiona Wignall purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Fiona Wignall chose World

Several years ago we owned a villa in Binibeca which we used and let out, and realised that this is where we wanted to retire. So we sold our smaller villa and bought this farmhouse to renovate.

We chose this property as we loved the completely private setting of the pool area and its palm trees. The layout of the house and casita works really well giving lots of flexibility.

Fantastic tranquil retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Ca'an Taa in May 2018. From making the booking, the owners Fiona and Peter provided us with information which was invaluable. The directions to the villa were spot on and the additional documents that we received provided lots of very helpful information on arrival.

The villa was extremely well equipped and the owners had thought of absolutely everything to ensure our stay was hassle free. From complimentary sun cream to mosquito repellant, it was as though the owners had put themselves in the position of the guests to consider everything which was superb. The welcome hamper was excellent and the villa itself was spotlessly clean. They clearly have a very good management team to look after the villa. The beds were very comfortable with high quality pillows and duvets and the furnishings inside and outside were of a very high standard. The grounds were very private in a beautiful setting and the outside space had everything you could wish for. From the pool, to the barbecue seating area and outside well stocked bar and music system, there was something for everyone. The cautionary deposit was refunded within days on our return. We can highly recommend this villa and God willing we will be returning next year. Pete & Teresa

Amazing property, photos do not do it justice!

  • 5 of 5

We were four couples who have taken holidays together in villas over some years. We have stayed in some lovely properties however this has the wow factor! The property is immaculate and extremely well equipped with everything you can need and more.

Inside the beds and rooms are comfortable, bathrooms amazing. Outside there is so much space and areas tucked away. You can get away from each other or spend time at the bar which was well used by us all. There are multiple BBQs, outside sound system and a large dining area. Fresh herbs in the garden and the ability to pick you own fruits was welcomed by our nominated chefs! The pétanque court was well used and it had become a hard fought competition by the end of the week.

The owners Peter and Fiona are wonderful and nothing was too much trouble, they helped to make the holiday with their hints and tips.

We loved it so much we booked immediately to go back again and return in June with a different group. We are looking forward to returning to our favourite place!

Wonderful stay and wedding!

  • 5 of 5

From the very beginning of our search for a villa to host our wedding reception and family/friend holoday, Fiona and Peter were exceptional.

We contacted them 2 years before asking them if we could come and visit the property while on holiday in Menorca and they were very happy to do so, even meeting us there. They gave us ideas for the wedding day, local information and gave us a tour. We fell in love with it immediately.

From there the communication was excellent, giving us any information we needed about the villa, its facilities and the area. They told us about any restaurants and activities ourselves and our guests could enjoy when there.

When it was time for our holiday/wedding they helped with any problems we came across and even gave us the weather for that day (reassuring a worried bride-to-be that the rain would stop and everything would be alright!). They went above and beyond before and after our stay.

The villa itself is in a beautiful location, and a very small and quiet village. It's in walking distance to some shops and restaurants (but best to have a car. Taxi's can be used).

The rooms were spacious, in great conditions and decorated beautifully. They all had a bathroom and the master bedroom on the top floor, in particular, is fantastic! Having the wee casita at the back of the villa makes it bigger and allows people to have their own space.

We all loved staying here: great rooms, storage, kitchen was wonderful, there were enough separate areas to chill alone or congregate with your whole family/friends. The swimming pool was large and not too deep. The BBQ was our favourite, alongside the hot tub and the outside bar. It has its own sound system, loud enough to host a wedding party so believe us, it's great. We miss all of these very much!

We managed to fit 6 large tables in the BBQ area outside and have an area to dance as well for our wedding reception so space isn't a problem.

Choosing C'an Taa for our wedding day/holiday week was one of the best decisions. We only regret not booking for another week. We hope to visit again because Fiona and Peter were so accommodating and helpful and the villa was fantastic. They truly love C'an Taa and this shines through in its care, grounds and ambience.

Thank you!

¡es absolutamente perfecto!

  • 5 of 5

It's almost impossible to add anything further to the positive comments that have been left by previous reviewers. Yes, we too immediately regretted not having booked for 2 weeks. Also, that we had misjudged that we might not wish to return the same week the following year and had missed out on 'holding' the villa for this eventuality....grrr!

In this instance, it really is true that the pictures don't do this place justice.....Ca'n Taa has been put together with so much attention to detail and is truly amazing, it lives up to its billing and over delivers on all fronts. We loved the beautiful interior and the outside peace and tranquility. It offered everything for our perfect holiday and has something for everyone.

We were 3 couples and the Villa offered the space for privacy and quiet time along with various seating areas for spending time together in a group. Our travelling companions had never stayed in a private villa previously, preferring hotels, but loved this place so much they said this experience had transformed where they would stay in the future.

The kitchen is stylish and fully equipped with everything needed for dining and entertaining and (being a total spice fiend) I was thrilled to see rows of chili plants growing in the kitchen garden along with a pantry full of a wide selection of dried chilis, herbs and spices. The orchard had pomegranates, limes and figs and there were even 3 varieties of basil plants, all things we were welcome to use as needed. Nearby, we located one of the best supermarkets / delis on the Island, which provided us with everything we needed. We didn't dine out in the evening during our stay, preferring to cook, but there are 2 restaurants close by.

We could add so much more, but most has already been said. The place was totally spotless and tastefully furnished..not to mention the cook books, dvds..candles...Thank you Fiona and Peter for opening up your home for us to have had such an amazing experience and for the excellent customer service you provided pre, during and after our stay. We would only have one hesitation in recommending this place to others (for purely selfish reasons of course)...As we keenly await the arrival of the booking schedule for 2019!!!.

Heavenly Retreat

  • 5 of 5

The villa was beautifully presented throughout and the gardens and pool divine. It was incredibly peaceful and as the sea was pretty cold in May we stayed by the pool.

The villa is near the airport (15 minutes ) which is incredibly convenient, and whilst planes fly over it is not bothersome.

The only downside was there was only one walkable restaurants, the rest we had to get taxis too, but they are reasonable and only 10 minutes away by car.

Ca'n Taa is on a quiet road in a perfectly private and stunning setting. Guests often arrive with the intention of busying themselves but then just settle in by the pool. When they do want to venture out, apart from the three local restaurants a walk away, Binibeca with its beach, bars and restaurants is 3 kms away. The beach bar Los Buccaneros is perfect for a sundowner. We use the restaurant El Pescadito for take away paella when we have guests.

The beach resorts of S’Algar, Alcaufar and Punta Prima are only a kilometer further away. Diving and kayak rental are available in S’Algar and Cala Torret in Binibeca. Between Binibeca and Punta Prima a new water park ‘Splash Sur Menorca’ with flumes opened in 2015.

The town of Sant Lluis is 2 kms away and offers more traditional bars and restaurants, its show-stopping fiesta is the last weekend in August. Sant Lluis is also home to Binifadet an excellent local winemaker who offers tasting tours, they also serve lunch, tapas and dinner on their elegant terrace.

By road we are about 6 kms from the airport, about 15 minutes by car. We are closer as the crow flies, but we are parallel to the airport rather than at one end or the other, so while we can see planes taking off and landing the noise is not intrusive. We never have the noise of them flying overhead. A couple of our reviews have commented on the convenience without the disturbance. (One is in French)

There are trotting races at the Hipodrom de Mao, 4kms away just beyond Sant Lluis on the road to Mahon, through the summer these start at 6pm every Saturday evening. They are colourful and exciting; bets are only €1.50 each so much fun can be had by all for not too much money. Several times each summer a special Wednesday show is put on when there are demonstrations of the Jaleo or Spanish dressage between the trotting races.

The Port of Mahon is 8 kms away with many more varied bars and restaurants, there are sail and power boats to rent of all sizes, a sailing school, and glass bottom boat tours. Several of our guests rented power boats last year, so we have recommendations in our manual. For those with an historical interest there are tours of the Isla Del Rey, Fort La Mola and Fort Marlborough, which was pivotal to the struggle between the British, Spanish and French for control of Menorca at the start of the 19th Century. The Fort Marlborough tours have costumed re-enactments. The Sunday tours to the Isla Del Rey (the hospital island) are memorable, €7 a head for the boat across, plus a small donation for the free tour. Another legacy from the British era is the Xoriguer gin factory, which also offers tours.

The town of Mahon holds much history and it is fascinating just to walk around. It has music nights every Tuesday in the summer, up to six acts perform in different parts of the town with all the shops, bars and restaurants open. The music is quite varied so there should be something for all tastes. Their fiesta, the last major one of the summer is always the 6th to 9th September regardless of the day of the week.

Also about 8 kms away is Calas Fonts, the bay on the harbour below Es Castell closer to the mouth of the harbour than Mahon. This is very pretty with many traditional fishing boats and the setting is unspoilt with no road or parked cars between the restaurants and the water. The longer we have lived in Menorca the more we find we go to Calas Fonts. Their fiesta and fireworks are the last weekend in July.

Ciclo-turismo is being promoted throughout the Baleares and there are several cycle routes marked out across Menorca by the island association. Our local council Sant Lluis has set up three signposted routes, one of which goes past our house on Cami de Biniparrell. If you want to cycle Ca’n Taa is a good base and cycle hire can be arranged with the bikes dropped off and picked up from the house. We had guests who rented bikes last year who have returned this year. We have recommendations for this in our manual.

For those interested in the prehistoric past of Menorca, there are many Taulas and Navetas around the island, one on the right just as you leave the airport car park. We have one only a kilometre away from us on the road to Binisafuller, the Poblat Talaiòtic de Binissafullet.

For birdwatchers, Menorca has been designated a UNESCO biosphere site due to the diversity of its wildlife. Over 200 species of birds have been identified here, often in migrant passage. In the North of the island the coastal wetlands include Albufera de Es Grau, a Natural Park and the core area of the Biosphere Reserve and are particularly rich in birdlife. Kites and Egyptian Vultures circle over our house daily.

Golf is available at Son Parc, 20 kilometres away. A little further again is the pretty fishing village of Fornells, set on a sheltered inlet which makes it a centre for dinghy sailing, kayaking and windsurfing with rental and courses available.
