Historic & Unique, centrally located cottage just off the seafront & Hove lawns

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Quirky property with four poster bed, novelty children's bunk beds & cozy double

Gorgeous Brunswick is located in the heart of beautiful, vibrant and eclectic Hove, just off the seafront and a short 2 minute walk from Hove's high quality independent shops, cafés, restaurants, bars but still also walking distance to the exuberant central Brighton! 15 minutes walk to Brighton's central shopping district and bar culture.

The cottage is always great place of fun, whether it is for a family event or a gathering of friends, it's airy space has party feeling. As a family we love getting there as it is so different to our London home, you feel you are in a holiday mood the moment you go through the door!

Gorgeous Brunswick is full of history; built in 1822 and was originally the drawing rooms of Charles Busby, the internationally acclaimed architect who designed the neoclassical Brunswick Town, adjacent to which Gorgeous Brunswick is situated.

Today, Gorgeous Brunswick offers guests a unique and memorable holiday experience.

The main living area is encompassed by a stunning arched ceiling, which was rediscovered in 2001 when the property was featured on the British television series 'Grand Designs Indoors' presented by Kevin McCloud. Open plan with triple aspect windows, it is a fabulous space in which to socialise, eat and drink, or simply relax whilst enjoying the Smart / 3D television, Sound Bar and Lutron lighting system.

Gorgeous Brunswick offers cosy nooks for adults and children, respectively. The master bedroom contains a luxurious king-sized four poster bed and has a contemporary design. In the second bedroom, there are playful and fun bunk beds for the kids to enjoy, as well as a funky alcove incorporating a double bed and a further 3D television.

Gorgeous Brunswick also has a colourful sun room with concertina double glazed doors, leading to a small decked patio garden with a delightful children's playhouse, where the young kids can play safely. There are le toy van toys, magnetic wall and chalk wall to keep young ones entertained.

The cottage is fabulous, and is always a place of fun. It is well suited to suited for families but we have accommodated many groups of adults. Sleeping arrangements are;

Bedroom 1: Sleeps 2 adults in a super king bed.

Bedroom 2: Sleeps 3 adults and 2 children in a double bed, a triple bunk with a adult single and 2 junior beds (160 x 70cm, average single is 190 x 90cm)

Living area: Sleeps 2 adults in a double sofa bed.

Travel cot also available.

The cottage is a skip, hop and jump from the beautiful promenade. With the sea one side and Hove lawns the other, where you can play ball games or visit one of the many events often taking place in Brighton and Hove.

The wide promenade is a great place for young and old. Directly opposite the cottage the seafront is relatively unspoilt with buildings, just the odd cafe. However within 5 minutes you will reach the iconic (burnt) West Pier where they are currently erecting the i360

There is a lovely play park just here and a stretch of new shops. Continue a little further and you are in the heart of the Brighton beach bar culture.

The cottage is just over 15 minutes walk to the Brighton Centre, 20 minutes to the start of the South laines and just under 30 minutes to Brighton Pier.

There is no parking with cottage, however there are pay and display options around the cottage. The cheapest is on the seafront (2 minutes from the cottage) at £10 for 24 hours.

Previous guests have also reserved parking about 3 streets away at £15 for 24 hours. They said it worked well. This would guarantee you a parking space in advance in summer months.

When we go for more than 3 days we often park out of town for free and then make the 20min walk back as you don't need a car once you are there.

About Sarah Mcdonald

Hi I am a mum of 5 lovely kids ages 8, 6, 4, 2 and a baby. I have always loved creating. Lovely spaces keep me sane and hence the creation of Gorgeous Brunswick for all of us. As a full time mum it's important that the children have fun but me too!

Sarah Mcdonald purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Sarah Mcdonald chose Hove

It is so unique; especially after looking at so many lovely, but similar, mansion flats. The cottage blew me away with its beautiful arched ceiling and feeling of openness and light. I also loved the fact it is virtually detached and it feels like we don't have to share our little bit of Hove. Having access to this part of Hove amenities is better than central Brighton, in many respects as they are unique interesting and and of good quality. The cottage having all these features and still being close to the seafront, was the deciding factor.

What makes this cottage unique

I love opening the bio fold doors on a warm morning, you feel the sea air and hear the sea gulls. When you step out the shower and walk through to the bedroom it feels like you are on holiday. I also love the convenience of the cottage, sending my husband out for speciality coffee and pastries in the morning is a treat. On his return the we tend to read, chat whilst the children play opposite in a small enclosed patio in the the sunshine. When I initially bought the cottage it was its location to the sea I wanted. If you get up early and walk by the sea before the day feels spoiled with the crowds you feel truly blessed. Unfortunately my early morning are shared with kids at the moment!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Great holiday home for families

  • 5 of 5

Cannot rate this gorgeous property highly enough. Beautifully decorated cottage. The children loved the triple bunk beds and the play area downstairs. Lots of toys to keep them amused. Fantastic open plan living space for the family to relax in the evenings. Great location. Beach and shops only 5 minute walk away. Property owner Sarah was extremely helpful and the prosecco and cakes on the arrival made a lovely welcome. We all felt very at home. My 3 year old cried on returning home as she thought Gorgeous Brunswick was her new home!!! Would definitely love to stay here again.

Loved Brunswick Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

This quirky cottage was great for our Weekend away with friends! It’s decorated lovely, the location is brilliant and the Owner couldn’t do enough for us! The welcome Prosecco and cakes were a lovely touch!!

Would definitely recommend to others - the kids loved all being in a room together and there was still plenty of space for all 8 of us!

Thanks Sarah for all your help! Hopefully we’ll be back again soon xx

The house was wonderful for our stay and Sarah was a perfect host- she went above and beyond to make the house feel welcoming and decked out for a celebration, which was a lovely touch. We all had a wonderful weekend in Brighton at Brunswick Cottage.

Excellent and idiosyncratic

  • 4 of 5

Really enjoyed staying here. Comfortable, quirky, thoughtfully kitted out and very good facilities. Would stay here again, though would probably pack an eye mask. If you like a lie-in in the mornings, most of the rooms allow in quite a lot of daylight, but pack an eye mask and you'll certainly have a very enjoyable and pleasant stay here.

Lovely property

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here with my wife and 2 year old daughter for 3 nights. This was our first Owners Direct experience and I was very impressed. Fabulous cottage with everything we needed including lots of toys for our daughter to play with! The cottage is beautifully decorated and with very comfortable beds. Fabulous location just 100 yards or so to the beach and shops. Nice easy walk to the Brighton Pier. Owner was very helpful. Would highly recommend.

Gorgeous Brunswick is located perfectly to access the sea front, with hove lawns directly across the road, this is a great spot to play cricket or have a picnic. Walk along the wide promenade to your left for no more than 10 minutes and you will come to the West pier where there are independent shops and cafes, a children's playground and paddling pool.

There is the newly opened i360 here too,

continuing on you will walk through Brightons main stretch of beach with cafes, bars, clubs, volleyball court, basketball court and mini fair ground etc. After another 10 minutes if you resist a stop for a drink! you will reach Brighton Pier; famous for its fairground rides, the Brighton Sea life centre is also situated here.

Gorgeous Brunswick is also perfectly located to access Hove's independent shops and cafes. At the top of the street there numerous cafes to choose from. Turning right along the high street will take you into central Brighton, with fabulous eateries along the route. The Taj grocery store located opposite Waitrose and about a 15 minute walk from the cottage offers speciality food and a fabulous deli provides home cooked foods that you can heat up back at the cottage yet still feel you are have a treat.

However if you simply want simple cheap groceries there is a mini Sainsburys and Tescos located less than 5 minutes away from the cottage. Head left along the high street and after passing the mini supermarkets you will pass more shops bars etc then pass the beautiful architecture of Palmeria square and onto to central Hove.
