Now in its 15th year of letting to guests ( we were previously with Cottages4you and Novosol ) this spacious single storey 18th century Charentais farmhouse has a single Gite set in the owners private hamlet surrounded by beautiful open countryside and woodlands. The property contains a large fully equipped kitchen / dining room, a large comfortably furnished lounge with television (sky) music center and DVD player with two separate seating areas. The master bedroom ( 45 sq metres) has both a kingsize and a single bed and includes an ensuite shower room with toilet.
A second twin bedroom ( 25 sq metres) opens directly onto the gite garden. It has an adjacent shower room with hand basin and a separate toilet. New in 2015, a third very large south facing bedroom with a king size bed and an additional single bed; It has its own sitting area and television.
If you only require 2 bedrooms, please contact us for a discounted rate.
Outside, the property has its own garden with a covered tiled eating area and barbeque. Alongside this garden is a secure walled swimming pool, 5 x 10 metres with additional roman steps. The swimming pool is for the sole use of the gite occupants. Whilst not overlooked the pool area has views over the wooded parkland and garden. Guests are free to explore the owners 1.5 hectares of woodland and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this charming holiday property. There is ample parking space adjacent to the gite.
The gite has central heating and a wood burning stove in the kitchen to supplement out of season lettings. Wooden floors and oak beamed ceilings add to the charm of this property. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering with cooker, fridge / freezer, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher.
The large sitting room has two separate comfortable seating areas with television, music centre and library, it has french doors at each end leading to the garden and front courtyard.
Each bedroom is equipped with wardrobe, dressing table and quality bed linen and towels. ( Please note swimming towels are not provided ).
Those wishing to just chill out and relax can enjoy the garden with a book in a deckchair. For the more energetic, there are several grassed areas suitable for badminton, cricket, boules, football ( net provided) or our outdoor table tennis table.
The secure walled pool area is very private, and a veritable sun trap. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrella.
The immediate countryside around the property is perfect for walkers of all levels. For cyclists there are numerous marked cycle routes. We do have 4 cycles at your disposal.
In the village of Chatignac, a few minutes walk away, is a free tennis court and boules pitch.
At Brossac ( 5kms) there are facilities including, bakery, pharmacy a small supermarket, post office, bank / ATM, restaurants and bar. Of particular interest for families with smaller children there is a swimming lake with sand beach and a leisure centre with indoor pool, spa facilities, squash court and snack bar.
Those wishing to make visits during their holiday have a wide choice within an hours drive. The very beautiful city of Bordeaux, the renowned towns of Cognac and Jarnac with several distilleries to visit, the rolling vineyards of the Saint Emilion region and Blaye, on the Gironde Estuary which has a magnificent fortress. Forty minutes from the property is the historical city of Angouleme with its excellent museums and cathedral. Closer still is the charming hilltop town of Aubeterre with its magnificent Monolythic church and traditional French market square and numerous restaurants. It also boasts a bathing beach on the river with kayaking facilities.
We have been asked has to the distance to the sea from Chez Lussaud. Royan is 60km away and La Rochelle a little further. The bay of Archachon is also possible in a day. Guests have spent days at the beach but if several daily visits are required we would advise you to choose a property closer to the coast.
Chalais our local town (10kms) has a bustling market each Monday morning, several supermarkets and varied shops overlooked by a fortress chateau which is open to visitors.
Bordeaux is a good city to visit. Travel time is normally an hour. There is an excellent Park and Ride scheme which is very reasonable around £4 for parking and trams; the charge is per car and we have included six people in the one price.
Sandra and Richard Shorthose, moved to this idylic location on their early retirement. Their priority has been to learn French and successfully integrate with the wider community. Having made numerous improvements to the property the gite was equipped to provide summer accommodation for their family. Over recent years the property has been let out to many satisfied clients. We started with Welcome Holidays, which was taken over by Cottages4you and more recently Novosol. This year we have gone privately and now offer the same high quality holiday at a more competitive price than with Novosol.
Richard and Sandra Shorthose purchased this farmhouse in 2003
We fell in love with this quiet, little known corner of France. Its green and wooded hills and valleys reminding us of our Warwickshire roots.
Artists appreciate the luminous quality of the clear cloudless blue skies and the warmth of the local stone buildings. At night, no light pollution here! enjoy the pleasure of the stars at night.
This well appointed and quaint cottage is beautifully situated in the heart of French countryside with the most tranquil view from it's large garden and delightful pool cared for lovingly by our gracious hosts. There are several nearby country towns and markets, walks directly from the door and of course Remy Martin is not far away. The perfect antidote to a busy life, we came home thoroughly relaxed and rejuvenated.
We received a warm welcome from our hosts, Richard and Sandra, on arrival. Their knowledge of the local area proved invaluable and they were happy to advise and/or suggest places we might visit.
We stayed in their beautifully renovated gite which comprises 3 bedrooms, a comfortable sitting area and a lovely, light, well equipped kitchen. The spacious rooms remained cool despite temperatures exceeding 30 degrees C and proved a welcome respite in the heat of the day.
The self-contained accommodation is within the old traditional, French farmhouse and is surrounded by acres of stunning grounds, which are maintained to a very high standard. We very much enjoyed using the pool which was immaculate as, too, was the barbecue area. We also had fun trying our hands at pétanque.
We have no reservations in recommending this wonderful property for a relaxing break in the heart of the French countryside.
Chez Lussaud is a beautiful hamlet in a picturesque setting. The gite itself was charming, homely and well equipped. The grounds were both extensive yet private and the pool area was fantastic. The children (ages 3-9) had a fantastic holiday; full of fun and laughter. They made the most of the pool and activities (inc. badminton and table tennis) and loved the freedom and exploration afforded by the grounds. The adults enjoyed a truely relaxing and and tranquil holiday. Richard and Sandra were the perfect hosts; kind and most helpful yet discreet and unobtrusive. I can honestly say it was a wonderful holiday and we can't wait to return. I would highly recommend Chez Lussaud to anyone looking for a rural and relaxing getaway!
We had a fantastic holiday here. The gite is lovely - huge kitchen, huge bedrooms and always cool even on the hottest day. We eat outside almost every day, making use of the outdoor seating and BBQ area.
The pool is fantastic. Kept spotlessly clean and plenty of room for a party of 8. Lots of sun loungers for a bit of sunbathing too. If you have children, bring armbands / swimming rings as little ones will not be able to stand (my relatively tall 8 year old could stand in the shallow end but I don't think a 7 year old would be able to).
Richard and Sandra live in the other half of the gite. Apart from always being on hand to answer questions, you wouldn't even know they were there. The way the property and grounds are divided is very clever and means you get all the benefit of local advice without any intrusion. They are also lovely people.
There are some nice days out nearby. We made use of the nearby lake which is all free - free parking, kids playground, volleyball, bouncy castle, crazy golf. The cafe sells nice basic food for fair prices. The bakery in Brossac does amazing giant croissants!
A fabulous little hamlet with a gorgeous private large gite. The description on the website did not do the property justice, the gite was well-maintained with excellent layout for a family yet also big enough to afford our group of 3 children and 4 adults plenty of privacy.
The gite had a perfect French country-feel with quality furnishings and rustic-style decoration. In terms of equipment the gite had everything we could need, we didn't want for anything throughout our stay. The bedrooms were huge and comfortable and there was plenty of seating and relaxation area, both in and outside.
The property has a fabulous family-sized kitchen and lovely outside eating area allowing you to self-cater if you wish.
The gardens and outside area were just perfect for our group: table tennis, badminton, footballs, boules and ample space for the children to play and also the adults to sit and relax. The swimming pool area was beautifully maintained and had plenty of relaxing loungers and umbrellas. We felt so spoilt being able to roam around the beautiful grounds and enjoy the splendid views of the surrounding sunflower fields and rolling hills.
The property was clean and well-maintained throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Richard and Sandra who were always on hand and if we had a question. They could not have made us feel more welcome and yet managed to provide us with privacy at all times.
The surrounding area is beautiful peaceful and thankfully unspoilt. There are endless small villages to explore and visit, shops within an easy drive and typical French markets and towns not too far away.
The local town of Brossac has a lovely small lake with sandy beaches and 2 restaurant to enjoy a glass or meal whilst relaxing. The property is also within easy reach of the beautiful cities of Angouleme and Bordeaux which I thoroughly recommend.
All in all a perfect holiday location for anyone looking for a beautiful rustic gite in an unspoilt and quiet area of France. We will definitely be coming back!
I would recommend this property to friends and family without hesitation and only wish that we could have stayed longer!
Chez Lussaud was wonderful, a relaxing and refreshing break. Our hosts, Richard and Sandra, were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble and their hospitality was first class. The gite is situated in a very quiet rural area, amidst beautiful rolling countryside. Lots to do and see in this region of France, and the local people are very friendly.
The property is a beautiful, traditional French farmhouse so if chrome and glass is your scene this is not the place for you. It is beautifully cool even when the weather is very hot. The pool is excellent and the grounds give plenty of space for informal games. You can also take a walk through the local countryside.
I would recommend Chez Lussaud to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a truly relaxing break.
Perfect for families who wish to discover time with each other in a peaceful environment.
