About Nick/Denise Rimmer

Our own home is adjacent to La Jolie Maison and so we are on hand for any assistance/advice guests may need during their stay. We will however respect your privacy, our aim is for you to enjoy a relaxed stay in your holiday home.

Nick/Denise Rimmer purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Nick/Denise Rimmer chose Champsac

We have spent the last few years sympathetically renovating the original Cottage and adjacent barn and are now able to offer La Jolie Maison as a French home away from home. We have attempted to make the property as comfortable as possible whilst, wherever possible, retaining original features.

La Jolie Maison is now a well-equippped, fully renovated home in the peaceful commune of La Courriere, 5 mins from the sleepy village of Champsac which has its own boulangerie (open daily for fresh bread), boucherie, pub and coiffeur and is perfectly located between the towns of Chalus (weekly market) and Oradour sur Vayres both towns having restaurants, bars, supermarches, boulangerie, boucherie, pharmacy, doctors, coiffeurs, tourist information, library etc.

Holiday makers, as well as potential future property owners are very welcome and we are more than happy to advise and discuss our property purchasing/renovating experiences.

What makes this cottage unique

Quiet, peaceful location in which to completely relax and enjoy the stunning views or spend time exploring the many local attractions. Numerous lakes (fishing rods available and fisherman Nick on hand to pass on his local knowledge) 5 mins from the Voie Verte a 13km walking/cycling track which runs from Chalus to Oradour-sur-Vayres (bikes also available to our guests). Have a dip in a local lake, game of tennis in Champsac, canoe on the River Vienne, or explore one of the many chateaus or places of historic interest .... something for everyone.

A beautiful cottage in a delightful location

  • 5 of 5

From the smooth booking of this beautiful cottage to our departure we were very impressed with the friendly service we received from Nick & Denise. The cottage is modern but charming and fully equipped with beautiful spacious accommodation fully deserving of our 5 star rating. Nick & Denise were perfect hosts and were there if we needed to ask about the area, places of interest etc. We would highly recommend a stay in the aptly named Jolie Maison. :)

The overall impression was one of peach and tranquillity in glorious French countryside. La Jolie Maison is everything we could wish for in a self catering holiday. Nick and Denise were the perfect hosts, a fantastic warm welcome and nothing seemed a problem. Will definitely be returning in the near future.

A beautifully renovated property in quiet location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Jolie Maison with our 2 dogs who were warmly accommodated by our hosts Mr & Mrs Rimmer. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and had all the essential equipment installed to make our stay very happy. The esquiste cottage is tastefully decorated in a contemporary way.. settled on the outskirts of a quiet hamlet on the edge of Périgord National Park.

The property was well maintained and very clean and our hosts were always welcoming and at hand if needed. This is a great place to relax and unwind from the stresses of modern life. There is s a lovely maintained private garden space with a patio and garden setting which over looks beautiful rolling countryside with an abundance of wildlife. There are beautiful country walks to enjoy and the property is centrally located to explore the local region easy access to shops, markets, historical places and a varying array of restaurants. Only 25 mins drive from the airport at Limoges. We would definitely recommend this property to our family and friends.

Absolutely Stunning

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the Gite to find a very quaint looking place from the outside. We were met by Denise and Nick who on first impression seemed like very nice people.

We were shown into the Gite and what we saw was WOW!!! What a beautiful place. The views from the windows were to die for and the cleanliness of the place was immaculate.

It was quite late so we decided to go to a nice restaurant in Champagnac la Rivierre which is only a few minutes drive away.

The bedrooms are really cosy and clean and you really get a good nights sleep on the very comfortable beds.

Nick and Denise were always there if you needed anything and nothing was too much trouble for them but they were not intrusive in any way.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we even managed the French cuisine of Snails, Steak tartar and a Duck burger!!!(All of which I may never eat again). Copious amounts of some of the finest wines I have tasted and barbecues to die for all in the tranquil settings of La Jolie Maison.

Thank you to Nick and Denise and congratulations on a near perfect Gite. (Dont forget the duck signs for the door!!!!)

I would highly recommend this gite and its owners to anyone thinking of a nice relaxing quiet time in the Limousin.

Owner's Response: Bonjour Jesse, Julie, Chris & Lynn, lovely to meet you all and we so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Many thanks for a wonderful review particularly appreciated when it comes from seasoned travellers who know the area so well. You’ll be pleased to hear the Bend or Bang door also now has a 🦆? sign ... thanks for that recommendation, afraid cottage walls are always so much deeper than you anticipate. Your French cuisine sampling sounded a very interesting experience .... as was your Velorail trip ... well done for that! Glad you enjoyed your stay and we certainly hope to meet up again some time. Continue having fun, a bientot, Nick & Denise😘?🏡?

Delightful cottage set in tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

We both thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at La Jolie Maison. Nick & Denise have done an excellent quality job in renovating the cottage. The spacious rooms and tasteful decor are a credit to them both. The location is just perfect, peace, quiet, tranquility, marvellous air what more could you want?

Lot's of beautiful places to visit nearby to have a coffee or sit and enjoy lunch. Brantôme is a particular favourite of ours which we revisited. Excellent cycling from the cottage on quiet roads, more gentle cycling along the old railway track which would be great for children. Very pleasant walks all around.

Denise & Nick could not have been more helpful and we hope to stay there again. A real pleasure.

Comfortable relaxation - perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for peaceful relaxation and that is exactly what we found at La Jolie Maison. The property is located close to the sleepy village of Champsac, but the whole surrounding area is quiet and perfect to get away from the rigours of city life. The accommodation was excellent - clean, in very good condition and included all facilities we required. To be honest, the weather was very kind to us, so we ate every meal outside, including breakfast. In the evenings, watching the sun go down and the stars come out whilst drinking a glass of wine in the spacious garden could not have been better.

There is plenty of scope either direct from the house or within a very short drive for lovely walks and easy cycling.

Denise and Nick were perfect hosts, helping and guiding us when required, but otherwise leaving us to our own devices.

We would definitely recommend La Jolie Maison, particularly for couples / families looking for a relaxing, quiet holiday.

Perfect for walkers, cyclists, fisherman & outdoor nature lovers in general, the area is often referred to as the Lake District of France. A whole abundance of flora and fauna make the area an absolute delight with numerous local attractions to visit. Guests have the opportunity to fish the many lakes without encountering masses of people (fishing rods available) and of course Fisherman Nick on hand to advise and pass on his local knowledge.

There are numerous local Chateaus to visit a day out to the beautiful river side town of Brantome (the little Venice of the Dordogne) is a must, cave paintings, and waterfalls to experience all within a short driving distance.

Weekly Markets selling home grown produce, local foods, clothes, household items etc. are a feature of local community life as are Fetes celebrating everything from Donkeys to Chestnuts!

For the more adventurous the thrill of a canoe ride on the River Vienne is a must or alternatively a peddle boat ride and a lie on the sandy beach of a local lake.

For children there is the Espace Hermeline, lakeside Adventure Park in Bussiere Galant with the thrill of tree top walking, a zip-wire across the lake and a ride on the open carriage train track.

Another experience to sample is one of the many 'vide greniers' which run from Spring-Autumn where you may well find yourself a little French treasure to take home.

The nearby towns of Rochechouart with its Chateau, art gallery, museum, lake, cobbled shopping area and St.Junien on the River Vienne with medieval churches, an Abbey, restaurants and an assortment of unusual shops are both worth a visit.

Of historic interest is the town of Oradour sur Glane which in 1944 had its occupants massacred the town remains the same as it did that day as a somber memorial to the victims. The on-site museum fully explains the tragic circumstances of the invasion.

The pretty town of Nexon is home to a Circus Training School and has a Big Top erected every summer.

For those that would like a bit of retail therapy the City of Limoges is of course only half an hour away with its many shops, restaurants, bars, museums, plenty to keep everyone occupied for a day. In the old part of Limoges there is a magnificent Cathedral and beautiful gardens. There is also the 'Petit Loco' (booked through the Tourist Information Office) which provides a guided tour around places of interest in the city.

We do of course have literature and maps available for guests.
