Very comfortable home with great bedroom views of the ocean, two great decks for beach viewing or sunning. Pool in great shape although a bit cool in October. Would definitely repeat stay.

Thanksgiving at the beach

  • 5 of 5

Family from near and far enjoyed an extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend gathering at the Breakers. The weather was pretty perfect for walks on the beach and the sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. We had plenty of cooking accoutrements for preparing a large Thanksgiving feast. The antique grain bin made a wonderful sideboard for our numerous pies! The living and sleeping areas are all very comfortable and homey. It's so great to have as many bathrooms as bedrooms! The decks were inviting and we wished it had been warm enough to use the beautiful pool.

Our family had been able to spend Christmas at the Breakers 14 years ago when it was new, and we were so happy to see and enjoy it again. It is holding up well against the elements! We look forward to staying at the Breakers again when we can take advantage of the pool and the beach more fully. Hats off to Garry for keeping such a pleasant place for so many to enjoy! Thank you, from the Willis and Mote clans!

Fantastic Time at the Breakers!

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week not long ago at this wonderful house in North Topsail Beach, North Carolina, with a group of old friends. All of us had a wonderful week in this comfortable, bright, well-maintained home. One of us compared the house to the one in the film “Something’s Gotta Give” with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. Although this house is not as palatial as the one in the movie, the comparison seems apt, with the combination of comfortable upholstered furniture, original art, some handsome but not fussy antiques, and the spectacular views of the ocean and sky from floor-to-ceiling windows all along the beach side of the great room and the den and from each of the upstairs bedrooms, each with a private bath, more floor-to-ceiling windows and doors out onto an upper deck. The bathrooms and kitchen were sparkling. Clearly, the owners of this house have chosen carefully and thoughtfully in furnishing it for the enjoyment and relaxation of their guests.

The beds were all very comfortable for a great night’s sleep or a “stolen” nap. One of the great joys of the house is the heated swimming pool, nestled in the dunes and very comfortable on days that might be a bit chilly, especially in the fall months when we were there. (The same probably holds for the early spring as well.)

The neighborhood has some beautiful, large homes in it which all seem to be fairly new and in good shape. A new house in fact is going up next door, which appears to be in the final, interior stages of construction.

All of my friends who were with me and I hope to return time and again to this wonderful home, as our busy schedules allow.

Three generations of my family got together for a vacation/reunion at this house on Topsail Island. We had a great time! The youngest kids loved playing on the beach and their parents were reassured by having a nice pool, since a couple of them were too young to go into the ocean on their own. The pool has a wonderful small shallow “shelf” area, so that the toddler could sit there safely and splash around – which he did a lot! The kitchen is well-equipped and the big dining table had more than enough room for all of us to sit around it together comfortably for meals and “art time” and games for the whole family. We appreciated the bedrooms with private bathrooms upstairs; no waiting for a bath or shower while the teenager among us was getting her hair “just right.” We slept well, we ate well, we played well on the beach and in the pool and on the decks and we had great conversations in the living room area, where we also just enjoyed watching TV together. We had lots of laughs and sweet moments as an extended family. The week we spent on Topsail in this beautiful house on this beautiful beach created memories for us that we’ll hold onto for a long time and I hope we can gather there again in that very same place in the not-so-distant future.

We rent a beach house every year on Topsail for family vacation and this is the worst choice we've made thus far. Location is great and layout of the house worked very well for our family. Loved the pool which was an amenity we specifically looked for prior to booking. The house needs some maintenance (and deep cleaning) Walls need paint, carpets are dirty, area rug in living room is so worn, the flower pattern is no longer visible in places. The upper deck has bird poop (lots of it) under the bedroom windows. It was there when we checked in which means it's not cleaned off between rental weeks. We had 2 toddlers with us so we could not utilize that deck because of the poop. Master bath has 2 sinks but stopper is broken (in closed position) on one sink making it unusable. There are 2 composite wood Adirondack chairs on deck - all others are plastic and most are broken. One of the blinds in living room is broken. Minor inconveniences but represents overall condition of the house. Bonus - there is construction on lot next door so if you're renting in the next couple of months forget about serenity Monday-Friday as you will be listening to saws and hammering early morning until evening. Two thumbs down on this rental.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. We try very hard to keep the house as pristine as possible The house was thoroughly cleaned in the Spring. We cleaned all the furniture and carpets as well as painting all the walls. The house is also professionally cleaned every week. We have a property manager only five miles away to take care of any maintenance. They did not hear from you during the week. The carpet you refer to as worn is actually a very expensive oriental rug. We keep it to provide a warm and cozy look that contributes to the comfortable feel of the entire house. The house has been rented every week since April with mostly return renter that love. it. The walls do get a little nicked up from people bringing suitcases in and out but that will be fixed during the first open week. We continually strive to keep the beach house clean and comfortable for all our guests. Rest assured that all your concerns have been taken care of.

People and dogs - everyone loved Breakers!

  • 5 of 5

Some friends and I rented this house off season for a quick "Friends Weekend" away. We were a little nervous when we booked because while we wanted a pet-friendly place so that our dogs could join us, we didn't know what that might mean as far as cleanliness and smell. What we found, was a delightfully maintained and perfectly laid-out home for us -- and for our four-legged friends!

When you first enter the house, you're greeted by the most wonderful views of the ocean through a row of windows overlooking a generous deck. The great room has a fantastic open floor plan and a big kitchen that meant the chefs among us could cook meals while the rest of us joined in conversation from the comfy living room couches. The dining table was awesome -- one of my favorite parts of the house, and I still dream of having the same at home.

The deck and walkway to the sitting area right on the dunes was my second favorite part of the house. We were there in late March, and the weather was perfect, which meant we spent a lot of time in one of those two spots. There was even a baby-gate we could use so our 4-legged babies didn't leave the deck!

There were 8 of us but the layout of the house meant each of us had our own space -- and bathroom -- AND ocean views from the second floor deck. I didn't ask everyone, but I know that our mattress was really comfy and that we slept great! The futon in the sitting room would have also allowed for more space, but instead some of us used it as a quiet, sunny, out of the wind reading nook.

Because it was still cool at night, the owner made special arrangements so we could use the gas fireplace! There was of course HVAC for the evenings too, but we absolutely loved having a little fire while we played games and talked late into the night. The management company was also great, because we were able to pick up the keys after hours from their location, which was right on the way out to the house.

The only thing I wanted more of from the house was time there. So, we decided to make it a yearly visit. Can't wait to come back!
