The entrance is through the old stable now a hallway with an exposed stone wall leading to a spacious open plan living and dining room with access to the garden. This living area has an original Burgundy stone floor, exposed oak beams, exposed stone walls and a stone fireplace fitted with a wood burning stove which makes it very suitable for off-season living. The kitchen is well stocked with a large selection of cooking essentials. The shower room is designed as a partial wet room with a two head shower, wash basin and toilet.

The upper floor is more contemporary in its design but still offers exposed oak beams and is accessed from the entrance hallway to open plan mezzanine. This is a great place to relax, read, watch a video or listen to music or just fall asleep after a busy day. There are two double bedrooms on the upper floor, one has a toilet and wash basin.

The garden is accessed either from the front of the house through the courtyard or from the dining area. A mature and well planted garden with a gravel area leading to shrub beds, a covered seating area, tables and chairs, gas and charcoal BBQs and many delightful features throughout.

A delightful, tranquil setting but within easy reach of everyday amenities.

About Robert Thom

We are both British (Scottish and Yorkshire) and have worked in the UK until 2003 in the logistics and property services sector. In 2003 when we decided to come and live at this charming property and established our property services business in Burgundy. Today our main business is property sales, holiday rental management and the purchasing, selling and restoring vintage and antique products.

Robert Thom purchased this house in 2000

Why Robert Thom chose Créancey

We came to this area of Burgundy in 1999 on a business trip to buy some pottery made nearby to our house. We liked the area so much that we came back 3 months later and bought this house with the aspect of using it as a second home; we quickly found that we wanted to actually live and work here so now we do. The house was charming and contained many items from the 19th and early 20th century. It was habitable, so we could use it right away. Now the renovation is completed, we are sure we made the right decsion.

What makes this house unique

This charming property has a good feeling of how life was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries with lovely old items; stone sink, bread oven, oak beams, stables with remnents of a past life. The house was part of the workings of farm courtyard and we have found local people who remember a horse vet and some who were born and lived here long before our time.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful holiday staying in this beautiful farmhouse. It was our first holiday abroad with our seven month old son and the setting could not have been more perfect. The description of the house in the listings is very accurate and the garden even more stunning than it is portrayed in the pictures. We visited during a heatwave with temperatures outside reaching 40 degrees which limited our activities given the young age of our son. However, the combination of the beautiful, cool farmhouse and the stunning garden meant that we were able to enjoy several very relaxing days on site. The kitchen was very well equipped and the thoughtful covered area outside enabled my husband and I to have some lovely evening meals whilst our son slept upstairs. We were even treated to some evening entertainment from the resident hedgehog!

The hosts were very welcoming, yet discrete and provided good information about local attractions (Dijon, Beaune etc) which are all within an easy drive despite the rural setting of this property. We had a particularly enjoyable day visiting the lakes of the Morvan National Park.

We cannot recommend this property highly enough!

The best of both worlds

  • 5 of 5

We could not fault this property both inside and out. The house is tastefully decorated and just so comfortable and relaxing. The garden is beautiful, private and peaceful and it is a real bonus that the whole seating area is under a large canopy. It is also incredibly quiet through the night (no cockerels or church bells which is so often the case in rural properties). It has the advantage, however, that it benefits from the best of both worlds as it’s hard to believe that when you’re sitting in the peace and quiet of the garden that you are literally five minutes from the motorway giving easy access to so many places including Dijon and Beaune - both of which are within half hour drives. There is even a very well-stocked Carrefour Contact (and a McDonalds!) a few minutes along the road at the edge of the village. In Dijon, it’s worth following the Owl’s trail (there’s a leaflet in the house) early on as it quickly gives you a feel for the old centre. The Hospices in Beaune is definitely worth a visit and Fontenay Abbey is so serene and cool on a hot day. Chateauneuf-en-Auxois is worth going to for the lovely views and for the delicious crepes served at L’Oree du bois. The walk along the canal from Creancey to Vandenesse-en-Auxois (an easy 3 miles each way) is beautiful with quaint and interesting houses at the locks. For a stop before heading back, Il etait une fois is a quaint little tea room with outside seating that serves good food, cakes and coffee.

It is such a lovely area with so much to see and do and made even better by having such a special place to live in.

Jenni and Robert are friendly and helpful but at the same time very discreet - the perfect hosts. We would, without doubt, return here and hope to do so in the future.

“The little things that make all the difference”

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we arrived, we just knew that it would be perfect. The farmhouse is very spacious, with all homely features (even uk tv), with great cooking facilities, huge fireplace with real wooden fire for the cold nights, exposed oak beams, exposed stone walls with nice soft rugs for your feet in the cold mornings. There's a great dinner table for entertaining, plus if your lucky "keys to whisky cabinet".

The huge living room and kitchen lead onto a wonderful wet room, upstairs is very spacious with 2 big bedrooms, 1 with en-suite, but also a magical music lounge, it looks like it could be another 2 bedrooms ready soon.

Outside has a beautifully designed dining area, with BBQ, and shade for the hot summer days, the plants & flowers add to the charm, even a cabbage patch down the bottom of the garden, plus the FAIRIES!!! Listen out for the Donkey. Plenty of parking space next to farmhouse as well.

The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, french speaking, very knowledgeable, especially on the wines, and wine region.

Infact, they helped us plan our bike ride to the cote-dor, and cote de beaune region, helping us to book bikes and trailer for the kids. That area isnt to be missed for any wine lover, amazing close to Beaune, Beaune to Santenay cycle route is 24km of winding flat vineyards roads also accessible from Beaune, hardly any climbing, perfect for the young ones, and a chance to see how the vines are grown and sample of course.

Djion itself is 30 minutes and is a good day out, with lovely cool eateries, feels very safe and friendly, also has some stylish shops, and don't forget to follow the OWL trail.

Creancey were the farmhouse is, is quite but typically french, with its own chateau, no real amenities here, but a carrefour is just down the road for all the basics, but Chateauneuf on the hill is within touching distance for a nice meal and drink on a night.

Hope to come back again and again.

Peaceful and pictural

  • 5 of 5

It was really a wonderful week of our staying in the farmhouse. Very quiet and serene place, although enough comfortably located for one day journeys to Dijon and Beaune. There are two lakes for swimming nearby reachable with the car in 6-8 minutes.

The house is very spacious and abundantly equipped. The garden is very beautiful, designed in old pastoral French style. An ideal place to rest and enjoy your meal.

The owners are very helpful and friendly. Both speak fluent English.

Next summer we will be most likely there again.
