Sal Luxury Duplex Penthouse at Paradise Beach, Huge Terraces With Pool/Sea Views
Why Rob Thornewell chose Santa Maria
I just love Sal - it's the perfect place to go to escape the British winter with it's year-round sunshine and I find I've relaxed into the pace of life over there after just a few hours.
What makes this Apartment unique
Same climate as the Caribbean but without the hurricanes, only half the time to get there and no jet lag!! Windsurfing and kitesurfing is big on the island - even if you don't do either yourself it's fun to watch them ride the waves....I think it's probably a lot more difficult than some of them make it look!
Pool / Spa
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Spacious and beautifully furnished apartment
Fantastic apartment, 4 beautiful pools to choose from
Thanks very much Kirsti - really pleased to hear you liked the apartment.
I hope to be able to welcome you back again at some time in the future.
All the best, Rob
First time in Cape Verde - want to go back
This is a lovely large apartment, with plenty of facilities & space to chill out. There's even space to hide from the rest of the family if you need to with the two large balconies. The views from the apartment are lovely towards the sea. Don't be put off by first impressions as you drive up to the resort as it's lovely once you are inside the gates & past the unfinished buildings.
The resort itself is kept wonderfully tidy (as is the whole island in general). We can highly recommend the local beach, in between the two piers at Bikini Beach.
We had issues with flights changing as the airline keep changing their schedules - the owner couldn't have been more patient, helpful & accommodating.
Highly recommend going to Cape Verde - great apartment, lovely people & fab weather
Really pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Paradise Beach Brett - as you say, not the best entrance to the resort but once you get to the completed area everything is well maintained.
Having the area to swim around Bikini Beach is fantastic and, if you go into the pool complex there itself you can buy drinks and I'm told the food is good as well.
All the best, Rob
A good week in a very well equipped apartment.
Excellent apartment and location
After reading the reviews and contact with the owner Rob I decided to stay for a week in November 2018.
Paradise Beach is a fabulous complex if you wish to unwind and enjoy a quiet location.
The apartment is in excellent condition, well maintained and was very clean on arrival, it is very spacious and could easily accommodate 6-8 people. The 2 balconies/terraces are very big with plenty of sun loungers. The kitchen is well equipped, there is a TV and internet which is an additional cost.
The pool area and grounds were well maintained and very clean, the staff were extremely helpful and well mannered. Laura on reception was very helpful and happy to book taxis or make reservations for dinner at any of the local restaurants, I would recommend Palm Beach or Barracuda in Santa Maria.
Although there are no facilities on site eg shops, bars, Santa Maria is just a short taxi ride away where there is plenty of supermarkets etc, or you can walk to villa verde where there is a falmers supermarket who stock almost everything that you would require, the walk is approx 20 minutes.
The beach is a 5 minute walk, if you walk towards the bikini beach restaurant the beach has been excavated and the shore line rocks have been removed and it makes for a excellent bathing area.
I would have no hesitation in recommending staying here and when I return I will book to stay here again.
Thanks again Rob for letting me use your apartment.
Thanks very much for your review David - very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. As you say, everything you need is close by with the added benefit of peace at quiet at Paradise Beach itself.
I look forward to welcoming you back again soon. All the best, Rob
Spacious and well equipped apartment
This resort is a short hop from the airport (but not too close). The gardens, pool and apartments are well tended. The apartment is roomy and well equipped especially with comfy patio furniture for lazing around or dining. At this time of the year the closest supermarket was in Santa Maria, a 40 or so minute walk, or a €4 Euro taxi ride. The resort is adjacent to the beach and a 20 min walk will get you to Bo Beach Bar or Ponta Preta Beach Bar both serving good food and drink at reasonable prices.
We had a marvellous taxi driver called Silvino - reliable & helpful. Reception have his number.
The weather was hot and sunny but most days we had some cloud and a breeze, just perfect.
Ask reception for recommendations for restaurants in town. They will also make reservations for you.
We had a great holiday and will return.
Fabulous penthouse apartment with amazing views of the sea
Such a fabulous holiday. The apartment is finished to a very high standard with beautiful furniture , amazing balconies , one with table and chairs , settees and swinging chairs and the upper balcony with sun loungers for sunbathing . The view from this apartment is stunning, over the pool and the sea .
Paradise Beach is a resort around 2.5 km outside of Santa Maria which is the main tourist centre on the island of Sal. PLEASE NOTE - the resort is not yet finished and there are currently no bars or restaurants on site. Lifts are also currently not in operation.
A taxi from the resort into town costs about €4 during the day (€5 after 8pm) or you can walk either along the road or beach route.
A walk along the beach to the south brings you to a hot-spot for wind / kitesurfers and jet skiers near some rocks jutting out into the sea and just after that you'll find the beachfront Restaurant Ponta Preta - a wooden building serving some lovely food with a superb view across the beach and out to sea. This stretch of beach, and the sand dunes behind, are protected from further development to preserve the habitat for the turtles who come here to lay their eggs every year.
Also available on Sal is fishing - if you go into Santa Maria mid morning you will likely see the catch coming in on the jetty. All sorts of interesting looking fish and sea creatures that will be served up in the local restaurants. If you like to go fishing yourself you can - deep sea fishing excursions are advertised in many places.
If it's land-based activity you're after there's quad-biking and cycling and there are trips available around the island up through the island's capital, Espargos. You'll find varied coastal scenery from the white sand beaches and turquoise waters in the south and west to the more harsh and rugged eastern coast where you can walk in the ocean with young Lemon sharks.
There is also the old salt works to see and you can bathe in the salt waters below sea level in the crater of an extinct volcano at Pedra Lume.
Or, if your idea of a holiday is something a little more relaxing, enjoy the balconies of my apartment or the pool at Paradise Beach resort or one of the beautiful beaches and just soak up the sun whilst sipping a cold drink...as the locals will tell you...'No Stress'
The choice is yours!!
