We wanted an adventure while we were still young and fit enough to enjoy it, therefore we bought an Italian villa with potential and then had 5 fun packed, hard working, challenge breaking years turning it into the luxurious villa we have today and we are still talking to each other, so decided it would be fun to share with others.
Kate Jennings purchased this villa in 2006
We chose this location because it seems to be in the centre of everything but with open views to the mountain and the all year green of the olive trees, it also gives you the impression that you are getting off life's treadmill for a while but is easy enough to get back on when you need/want/have to.
I think what we love about Abruzzo and hopefully you will to, is the untouched and uninfluenced feel Abruzzo has about itself. What you see is what you get. It is a working region not gearing itself around tourism or other outside influences but has a natural beauty and elegance all of its own, including the friendly and welcoming locals.
We have just returned from 2 wonderful weeks at Fruttanoce. Kate and Paul are the perfect hosts, on hand to recommend restaurants and places to visit, nothing was too much trouble. The villa has everything you could possibly need and more, so much space to relax, inside and out. The bbq area is ideal for Al fresco dining, and we spent many evenings gazing out at the great views. The location is very good, very peaceful and quiet, with a local supermarket only a few minutes drive where we found the staff to be very helpful considering our limited Italian! We ventured into Majella national park and had an unforgettable day taking in the views and eating at one the recommend restaurants which was delicious, places we would never of found without Kate's help. We cannot rate Fruttanoce highly enough and cannot wait to return
We have just had a wonderful 2-week stay in this villa. Fabulous pool suitable for all ages. The villa is really well-equipped and the rooms are comfy and the air-conditioning a blessing! The BBQ eating area is particularly nice. Kate and Paul were really helpful in recommending places to eat and in organising family meals out for us. Great place to stay with a large family group. It's a good couple of hours drive to the mountains, so we didn't get there as often as we'd hoped, but can't fault the villa or the hosts.
We have just spend 2 weeks at Fruttanoce Villa and must say that the villa and the way that Kate and Paul makes sure that you can have a relaxing, fun and enjoyable stay is outstanding good!
The villa is really high quality all around and has everything you can dream of. We especially enjoyed the large outdoor kitchen with it's huge barbeque grill big and well equipped enough to make cooking for 12 persons easy and with space to have everyone sitting in for a cozy time while the food was being prepared.
Needless to say the large outdoor pool was also a hit - to take a swim with the view to olive groves and high mountains in the distance is something special.
On top of all that it was also really nice to experience the way Kate and Paul hosted our stay - always there with a good tip on things to see and where to buy the good local food and wine if needed.
We hope to be able to re-visit Fruttanoce Villa again and can only give our best recommendations to others who are looking for the perfect place to spend their vacation.
We spend almost 2 week at Fruttanoce. We were a group consisting of 3 familes with 7 kids (ages 2-11 years). So altogether 13 persons.
The villa was very clean both inside and outside when we arrived. The friendly owner was there to show us the property and gave us brief instructions of premises. Later on she helped us to book table from restaurant and organize some activity for the group.
The accomodation was very convenient for 3 families. Each family got some privecy and own bathrooms as the villa is spacious. Three of the bedrooms have their own entrance.
Pool was very nice and clean. The owner cleaned the pool every morning before we woke up. The kitchen and grill by the pool was great! There was even a fridge at the outside kitchen to keep the drinks cool by the poolside.
I can only recommend Fruttanoce. Our expectations were exceeded by all means!
We spent a week at Fruttanoce in August 2014 to celebrate a big birthday with friends and family from the UK. We filled the place to overflowing but it never felt crowded. The bedrooms were cool and comfortable with air-con, some have extra bunk-beds, and not every bedroom has a private bathroom but there are plenty and they are beautiful with walk in showers and tiled floors. The two kitchens were very well equipped. We were feeding lots of people so the large fridges and freezers were perfect. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and we really felt at home. DIshwashers, washing machine, iron - everything was supplied.
There is a big pool with a small side pool - ideal for children or dipping your toes as you sip a gin & tonic as the sun goes down over the mountains! There is a wide terrace with a barbecue area which has a sink, fridge and enormous bbq. And even a loo and shower by the pool. Early every morning the pool was cleaned, the sun loungers arranged under the sun umbrellas with cushions, and the entire area looked clean and fresh. We spent most of our days lounging by the pool, playing boules, eating and drinking under the large covered area and generally chilling out. The weather was gorgeous; very warm but just enough sea breeze to make it comfortable. The air-con in all the bedrooms was a blessing.
The owners live next door. They were friendly and made us feel extremely welcome but left us alone to do what we wanted. I hate having owners checking up on me, so it was nice that they never interfered. They invited us to pick fruit from their extensive orchards and help ourselves to tomatoes and salad from the garden. We had a party one evening and Paul helped us get a fabulous "porchetta" (an Italian hog roast) which fed us all for days! Kate told us where to shop for the best wine deals and recommended local restaurants.
The café on the beach (a five minute drive) was great for bread and croissants, and there was a well-stocked supermarket in the local village. The beaches are pleasant, and the sea very calm and warm. We found some good restaurants nearby which were reasonably priced. There are also some pretty pricey ones, so make sure you check before you book!
The only negative thing is that it is too far to walk to the beach, but with such a lovely pool, we didn’t miss that.
Every one of our group had a wonderful time and we're all planning to return in the future.
Due to its scenic and rural location a vehicle is a must. All the major rental companies have offices at your arrival airport. This will enable you to explore the Adriatic coastline of Abruzzo with its award winning beaches, the historical towns of Lanciano and Vasto which are both only 15 minutes away or head into the heart of the Majella National Park with its stunning panoramic vistas of the Italian countryside.
There are some lovely walks year round exploring the local countryside and we will be happy to map-out routes for you.
You can also go horse riding along the beach for around 25 euros. There is a great water park nearby which the kids (and grown-ups too!) will love and our coastline offers great opportunities too for diving and fishing.
And for stocking up on local specialities to eat and wine at 2.50 euros a bottle a superb local supermarket is only 5 mintues away.
