The Cividinis at Sunset on St John.
Claudia Cividini purchased this villa in 2003
St John is one of the most magic places in the world. The weather, the water, the people...just unforgettable and beautiful.
Breezy, comfortable, close to town, great views, affordable, clean, bright, very private.
Gracias.
We just returned from a week in St. John and the fabulous Villa Catalina. This vacation was truly amazing!! It was our second time on the island and our first at Villa Catalina. I cannot say enough how pleasant and easy it was to deal with the owner, Claudia. From start to finish this was truly easy breezy. The villa was exactly as pictured (even better in real life) It had everything you could possibly need to enjoy yourself on this little piece of Paradise called St. John. We were met at the ferry by Myrtle who was wonderful and patient while we dealt with renting our jeeps, etc. We were a family of 6; all adults (4 young adults) I would recommend this place for a large family or 3 couples traveling together. Waking up and seeing the Caribbean from your bed just cannot be beat!! Very peaceful and quiet location, only 10 minutes to Cruz Bay and about 20 minutes to the many amazing beaches of St. John. The villa is well maintained and cared for and it shows. Lots of books and games in case you are bored or need something to do; along with a beautiful new flat screen tv (which we never turned on!) Great wifi and cell service at the villa too. We cannot wait to come back!! Not to be missed.... Joe's Rum Hut, Rhumblines and the Longboard in Cruz Bay, Miss Lucy's in Coral Bay and of course, Columbo's Smoothie Stand on Centerline Road. We frequented Hawksnest Beach, Jumbie Beach, Cinnamon Bay, Maho Bay, Francis Bay, Salt Pond Bay and Drunk Bay. A different beach every day; what could be better?? Jeep rentals through St. John Car Rental; very easy to work with. We did a 1/2 day Catamaran snorkel sail on the Kekoa- would highly recommend. All girl crew was fantastic and fun. We hated to leave; truly. We will be back!!!! Thank you Claudia and Javier!!
I stayed at Villa Catalina in January with another couple with children. It was perfect! Claudia was very easy to work with and answered all of our questions. House managers were prompt picking us up at the dock and helped us getting our rental car and also settled in at the house. The house is beautiful, very clean, well maintained with the most spectacular views! The two bedrooms and baths upstairs were spacious, linens plentiful and beds very comfortable. The older kids stayed downstairs and they loved. Living room and kitchen had everything we needed, furniture was nice. Wifi and TV worked fine. Pool was great, nice to jump into after a day at the beach to rinse off, and very private. The deck was a perfect place to relax with an amazing view! , enough to seat a handful of people! We had a wonderful time on St John and absolutely loved this house! We will definitely be back!
As we approached the driveway, we saw why a 4 wheel drive vehicle is recommended. Even with the dry conditions, the flowers around the villa are very pretty. Over our nine days, we ate about half of our dinners at the villa and found the kitchen to have every utensil that we needed. The grill beside the pool worked well. The pictures are somewhat dated. The deck and pool furniture are different which is actually an improvement. One noticeable difference is the view that is shown on the VRBO picture. It is almost totally obstructed with a large flowering tree. Do not expect to see up toward St. Thomas or the view that is shown from that corner. The view out into the ocean from the deck on the back of the villa is good. As shown, closer to shore, it is obstructed by two large hills. You will be able to see the chocolate colored water in Chocolate Hole. The back deck and the pool deck are great. In the summer, you will find it necessary to open all doors and windows to get cross ventilation. Even then, it is very hot during the day and until about 8:00 in the evening. When we left for the beaches, about 10:00, it was pleasant; however, when we returned around 4:00, inside the villa was very hot. We had two problems. I was told that almost all of the villas on St. John only have A/C in the bedrooms. The window A/C in the master bedroom quit working very soon after we arrived. Myrtle, the property manager, and her husband were very responsive. They brought in a portable unit for the bedroom at 9:00 in the evening. It was still there when we left. It was leaking all of the water into the floor. We mopped water for 3 days, then called. They quickly came and ran a drain out the sliding door. The other problem was with the rustic laundry area in the pool equipment room in the basement. The majority of the time that we were there, it was flooded. I did not go down there until toward the end of our stay and did not know how bad it was. My wife had just dealt with it, so we did not report it. We should have reported it because it had electrical cords in it and seemed dangerous. This is an older villa and you might expect to have some issues. To summarize, if you do not desire to be within walking distance of downtown, this villa is a good option. It is roomy and the decking surrounding two sides of the villa makes for an enjoyable experience.
We had a wonderful time at Villa Catalina!!! No complaints whatsoever! We were met once we got off the car ferry by Myrtle and she was so pleasant. When we arrived at the Villa it was just like the pictures. They have been having a drought lately but the place was still gorgeous and very well-maintained. We were a bit skeptical booking a place like this online, but the owners were "real" people and we couldn't have been happier. I have recommended this place to all of our friends.
We visited many of the bays, but our favorite one was Maho. We loved snorkeling!! We did karaoke at Castaways and then went back to watch the World Cup there. Had a blast!! Cara the bartender was great!!! I could go on and on...there wasn't a bad restaurant or meal. The Banana Deck is a must...great food! Near Mongoose Junction, was a delightful man named Thomas "the drink master and professional"!! He also gave a "life lesson"! So sweet he was!!! The best drink in a coconut ever!!! We have a family of 6 and the place was perfect! Thank you Claudia and Javier!!! We would love to come back someday!!
Met Winnie at the dock. She was the best/nicest/genuine person we met all week. Simply adorable. She took time to take us to our car rental and then we followed her to the house. She as just so funny and sweet! The driveway was straight up. She said if you hit the mountain turn left. The house itself had heavy doors. The breezes blow them shut loudly. The two master bedrooms were beautiful. Only one had a master bath, the other had a bath just outside in the hallway, which also had a door to the pool area. We had many Iguanas in our trees, never once getting on our deck, but they were awesome to watch. They fought occasionally and fell out of the trees. We ordered 2 pizza's the first night, a 6 pack of beer, some wings, and some pop and bill was $108. Whew.
We bought water, if you can - get water the first night you're there. Ask your guide to stop at Dolphin and pick up 10 minutes worth of water, rum and food for a night. We didn't do that - and we wish we would have. We packed coffee and other basics. You must have snacks for sitting on the deck. The deck is beautiful and quiet. We saw no one when we were there. We heard laughter from a deck a little ways away, but saw no one. The house itself is equipped nicely. Good pots and pans, good dishes and glassware, many towels, beach towels and beach chairs and coolers when you go to Cinnamon or Trunk or my favorite Maho. They are good chairs. The first floor bedroom is outside down the steps. There are 2 twin beds with patio doors onto a nice patio area. And it has a bathroom. There is also a workout room with a futon for another sleeper. The washer dryer area is down there too. I loved the high ceilings. The pictures are not up to date - I saw no patio furniture like shown. But there was plenty of good furniture there. The pic of the living room is not exact anymore - there is a flat screen TV there now. I loved making coffee and sitting on the deck waiting for others to wake up.
There's a beautiful view on the deck and it's fun to listen to the cars squealing on the hairpin turns after the rain.
You do need a 4 wheel drive to get here.
