Lovely villa on a beautiful island

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed an idyllic holiday at Eden Villa on Tilos in June/July 2015. We were a party of two adults and three children (aged 14, 11 and 8). The listing here is entirely accurate and the property really did live up to all our expectations. Eden Villa was clean, pleasant and well-maintained and it felt like a very friendly, homely place to stay. Everything you might expect to find upon arrival was there, and all the little things you hope not to have to worry about while you are on holiday were taken care of.

Our hosts, Rob and Annie, were welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the local facilities and environment. Our children utterly adored their dog, Fergie. We liaised with Rob and Annie by email in advance about travel routes / connections. We flew in to Kos and then caught the catamaran which connects the local islands out to Tilos, and Rob collected us from Livadia port without a hitch. The best features of the property for us, without a doubt, were the swimming pool (which we made the most of) and the shaded veranda (where we shared our meals against a backdrop of mountains and sea).

Tilos itself is a very beautiful, unspoilt holiday destination – a real find. We liked the fact that Tilos was quiet, and not at all touristy. If you want to eat out, there are a small number of good quality places that cook authentic, tasty local food. The people on Tilos care about their island and there is a real sense of community. If you’re looking for somewhere natural, authentic, atmospheric and friendly, Tilos is the place. And if you do want a bit of nightlife, there is a bar we would recommend: during the summer months a late night bar opens around 11pm each evening in the deserted hillside village of Mikro Horio – it is quirky, delightful and a big draw for locals and visitors alike, with a generous, friendly atmosphere.

Tilos is incredibly beautiful. We enjoyed unspoilt beaches (we had them pretty much to ourselves in June) and clear seas. An abundance of natural beauty is around every corner of the island. The walk to the nearest beach took us past hundreds of butterflies and gloriously colourful wild flowers and herbs. We did hire a car to get about quickly – it was very simple and cheap to do – but no journey was ever more than a couple of miles and you could easily manage without a car, by walking and catching the local bus. Avoid the pitfalls of busy tourist destinations and take a real holiday on Tilos.

First trip to Tilos

  • 5 of 5

The property description and facilities are perfectly accurate it does exactly what it says on the Tin. The villa was well presented and very clean,Rob and Annie are perfect hosts, if you want to go solo that's fine with them but we enjoyed their company and were fortunate enough to have a couple of evenings out together.we have been to plenty of other Greek islands that proclaim to be the real Greece as it used to be but these haven't met our idea of the real Greek islands.Tilos is without doubt a relaxed island and on this occasion fully met our expectations at Last !! not a Brit bar in sight. The Tilos people are genuine and friendly (you soon realise this when your child is throwing up on the Bus),We stayed for 2 weeks and ate out a lot,in this time we never had a bad meal or any other problems relating to foreign travel .we stopped in Rhodes overnight on the way out and the way back just to make life easier with flights. So go on spoil yourselves and book it you deserve it,Just remember this is life not a dressed rehearsal.

Perfect place to stay on Tilos

  • 5 of 5

We felt at home immediately in this lovely house. There is plenty of space both inside and out and it is in very peaceful and quiet surroundings.

The kitchen is well equiped including a washing machine. This and the provision of beach/pool towels meant we could travel light.

The house is on the edge of Megalo Horio, a traditional Greek village with one taverna and an ouzeria, the latter at which is frequented by the local men each night. Great to experience a real Greek atmosphere! There is also a nice path down to the little taverna at Agios Adonis port. All serve good locally sourced food and we found it best to just ask what they had cooked that day rather than looking at the menu.

The couple who own the house, Rob & Annie live next door and will keep a quiet eye on you to ensure everything is ok. They were very helpful and only too happy to let us borrow their walking guides and walking poles during our stay as well as picking us up/returning us to the port and giving ferry advice both prior to arrival and during our stay due to the Sea Star being out of service. They have also just rescued the most delightful friendly dog who greeted us enthusiastically whenever she saw us.

We were able to go walking directly from the house; it is only 30 minutes to the nearest beach at Eristos or 50 minutes to the deserted (in sept) beach at Skafi. The climb to the castle behind the house is also worth it for the views. We also used the 'Exploring Tilos' guide to embark on some longer walks.

We have always loved Tilos and have now found the perfect place to stay. We will certainly book it again next time we holiday on Tilos.

Great value for money and just as described.

  • 5 of 5

Having got to know the wonderful island of Tilos, we realise that there is no better base than Eden Villa. A perfect spot just beside the nicest village and an easy short walk to a fantastic shop which stocks everything imaginable staffed by a family who are friendly and helpful beyond belief (they can even arrange delivery of crates of beer). Excellent friendly affordable restaurants to walk to as well. Good walks to mountain tops and beaches from the door. Dead easy to use bus service (forgot to take coins to pay? - don't worry, 'pay next time') - leading to both ends of the island's road, stopping at beaches etc. The port village is also nice and hosts great, not too fiddly, honest car and scooter rentals - very quiet scooters only! Beaches are nice and often genuinely empty (in late June at least). Interesting places to visit. Things that stand out are the quietness and peace - you can hear the bus coming minutes before it arrives. Interesting flora and fauna all around you and beautiful scenery. Astonishing night skies. As for the property it is as good as it sounds and is perfectly equipped. The pool is a genuine pool, kept clean and is deep and big - suitable for diving and synchronised swimming contests! Nearby, but with a keen eye to your privacy, are Rob and Annie - willing to help and advise as much as you want and easily found if you need them. Rob and Annie are as friendly as can be.

We flew out to Rhodes and spent a night at the Noufara Hotel (good value, basic, clean and friendly - and very helpful indeed) before getting the ferry to Tilos. Don't worry if you can't find ferry timetables up to date on the internet - just email Rob and Annie while, or after, booking and they will sort you out in good time (we didn't know how we would get back to Rhodes even after arrival on Tilos but were not concerned one bit and, of course, it all fell into place - it's that sort of island). We'd advise people to go to Tilos and stay at Eden Villa with one proviso - don't tell anyone else about it.

Lovely island & villa, charming hosts - go for it!

  • 5 of 5

We were all charmed by Tilos – about the size of Guernsey its small enough to find your way around after a couple of days but large enough to explore and enjoy. Beaches you can drive to, beaches you can only walk to, mountains, plains and valleys, a small but lively port in Livadia, a deserted village that turns in to a night club in July and August and rare birds to be seen since the island turned itself into a nature reserve a decade ago – and it’s easy to reach from Rhodes. We ended our holiday with a couple of nights in Rhodes old town – but kind of wished we were back in Tilos. Eden villas is on the outskirts – 5 minute’s walk away - from the only other village on Tilos apart from Livadia – Megalo Horia. Megalo Horia is ‘inland’ which means its all of a 10 minute drive from the beach at Eritsos When we booked we thought this might be a disadvantage but when we got there we soon welcomed our decision. The road between the port and the village is excellent and the journey time is no more than 10 minutes or 6 kilometers but Megalo Horia is a really peaceful and pleasant place away from the ‘bustle’ of Livadia but with two restaurants (Castros is excellen)t and a bar where the local people gather plus two general stores and an art gallery that is well worth a visit – the artist’s summer house.

The island has a good bus service but we hired a car at 30 euros a day – worth it for the convenience.

Eden villas is faultless – a pool, the house is charming and the setting is glorious – we would sit out each night with a drink in hand and listen to the Scops Owls calling across the valley – lovely views even at night as it never really gets dark in the summer. Look out also for Rollers, Eleanora’s Falcons, Bee Eaters and Bonelli’s Eagles.

Rob and Annie live next door and are charming people who will help you enjoy your holiday if you want them to and were a real pleasure to meet. Thank you both for inviting me in to watch the first Lions test and for the drinks you bought us while we waited for the ferry taking us back to Rhodes – sorry we rushed off without paying – our turn when we come back next year when the wild flower meadows are in bloom.

The perfect location on the perfect Greek Island

  • 5 of 5

We have been to many Greek islands but Tilos is the only one we have returned to again and again. An unspoilt hidden gem with stunning scenery and the friendliest people you could hope to meet.

Eden Villa is all you could hope for and more - a beautifully kept villa in stunning scenery looking out to the mountains and the sea. As if this isn't enough there is a gorgeous pool too which its not easy to tear yourself away from. Do try though as island is well worth exploring and its easy to do so by bus or on foot if you decide not to hire a car. This time we went on a couple of boat trip (Stelios trips) and they were a great way to explore bits of the island you might otherwise miss, the 3 beaches was a particular favourite - lots of swimming from the boat.

Ron and Annie who own Eden Villas could not be more warm and welcoming and will do all they can to ensure you have a great holiday without being intrusive. The perfect hosts in fact.

Highly recommended.

Tilos is one of the most southerly Greek Islands situated close to the Turkish coast near Rhodes and Kos in the Dodecanese. Smaller than its more famous neighbours it is still largely unknown and having avoided mass tourism it remains one of the few genuinely unspoiled Greek Islands. Tilos has two villages, Megalo Horio the capital and Livadia the port. Our village is a 2 minute walk from the villa with restaurants and a cafenion but is far enough away for total peace and quiet. There is also a museum which has bones from a dwarf elephant which were found in a nearby cave some years ago. Eden Villa has one of only four swimming-pools on the island is the only property for rent with a private swimming-pool. It is not overlooked and offers spectacular views of Skafi valley, the surrounding mountains and Eristos Bay to the south which boasts the best beach of many on the island. The mountain behind the villa hosts a ruined 15th century castle which can be reached on foot in about 45 mins.

Other Activities: Island boat tours with BBQ. Licensed guided walks. Excellent birdwatching. Snorkeling. Fishing. Deep sea fishing.
