L'Hirondelle has been tastefully renovated to a high standard and maintaining many of the original features of the building. On the ground floor is a well equipped kitchen diner which seats up to six people. Equipment includes full oven and hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher. In the comfortable lounge there is a TV with English free to view channels available and a DVD/CD player.
A wooden staircase in the dining room leads up to the large landing on the first floor. The first of the two bedrooms is a spacious double bedroom with a pretty window looking out onto the courtyard. The second is a well sized twin bedroom. We can supply additional folding beds for larger families. The shower room is light and modern and also accessed from the landing.
Outside, there is a gravelled patio area with table and chairs for 6 people and your own charcoal BBQ for outside dining.

Our lives in England were very different from the life we now lead in France. Patience was a stay at home mum and Dave was a Primary School Headteacher. When Dave retired, at the end of December 2014 we moved to France and have thoroughly enjoyed preparing the traditional and characteristic French cottages at La Richardiere for our guests.
We have found the French people extremely welcoming and this has enabled us to carry on with our interests. Dave is a practicing musician and accomplished at playing traditional Fiddle music from England, Scotland, Ireland and the USA and Patience sings in the local Choir and is developing her creative skills in the local pottery. We have also developed a close connection with the local Primary School where we teach English on a Friday afternoon.
Patience and Dave Brown purchased this cottage in 2014
When we first visited La Richardière we instantly fell in love with the beauty of the buildings and the tranquility of the surrounding countryside. We have been visiting the area for a number of years and find it both a fascinating and relaxing place to be. As well as offering much for visitors, both regular and occasional, there is a vibrant community around the region and a plethora of local events celebrating food, wine, folklore and tradition to enjoy and participate in.
The warm mellow stone of the buildings, the intriguing charm of the stone archways in the courtyard, the stunning willow draped over the pond all framed by the wide lawns and rural views provide an immediate sense of distance from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. La Richardière can provide both a comfortable base from which to explore the Loire or simply a quiet and relaxing hideaway.
I spent a week at L'Hirondelle with my husband and 2 young daughters.
It is an extreme comfortable and homely cottage where the hosts had really gone above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable and stress-free.
The setting is absolutely stunning and we loved the peace and quiet away from our usually busy lives.
The pool was always clean and well maintained and there was always plenty to occupy the children allowing us to relax and unwind.
We are keen to return and would highly recommend L'Hirondelle and the other gites at La Richardiere to anyone looking for a change to relax and recharge.
We have just returned from an amazing two week stay and had the most special family holiday. The self catering cottage was lovely and just as described but the photos and descriptions don't capture just how special and magical it is. With two young children we had perfect days on site - using the pool, playing badminton and table tennis, having picnics in the grounds and generally unwinding but there are also lots of really interesting places to visit as well. It is a beautiful area of France. We have already booked our holiday here for next summer and cannot wait to return.
Total peace and tranquility await you! Extremely high quality and well equipped properties with a French speaking host! Even a bed that was as comfortable as ours at home, that's a rare thing! Perfect for families and small groups. The trip down from Caen was straight forward and if you haven't driven abroad before, this is a great journey to get you going. Thoroughly recommend, we will be back!
My wife and our four year old son stayed in L'Hirondelle at La Richardière for five nights at the end of March (including the Easter weekend). The cottage was very comfortable for us, and Dave and Patience were excellent hosts. The kitchen was very well equipped, and we made excellent use the wood burner stove, which made the comfortable living room very cosy. The beds were also extremely comfortable.
Dave and Patience made extra gestures by leaving a basket of supplies for our first evening/morning, and were friendly throughout the stay, offering advice and ideas of how to make best use of our time in the region. The grounds are beautiful, and the rural setting is very peaceful.
There are many nice things to do locally, including exploring countryside, little French towns and villages and local markets. Slightly further afield are the numerous chateaux of the Loire region e.g. Chenonceau is under an hour away, Montrésor—one of the prettiest villages in the region—is also within easy reach, and Loches is highly recommended. ZooParc de Beauval (another recommendation from Dave and Patience) was fantastic and an excellent activity for kids and parents alike. Due to the time of year we didn't make use of the other facilities (BBQs and swimming pool) but based on our experience, we are sure these would be as lovely as everything else. Highly recommended!
Patience and Dave welcomed us for a week on their estate in the gite l’hirondelle. The gite is spacious, well equipped, clean and has wonderful beds. Our two boys (age 10 and 9) were swimming, playing table tennis, jeu-de-boule, football, badminton, launching their kite, reading books in the garden and playing with Rollo the dog. We (the parents age 45 and 44) enjoyed the peace and quiet mornings with sleeping out in the excellent beds, having breakfast in the garden and swimming. In the region there are many, many things to do to fill at least two weeks of stay. We choose to visit Loches and Chinon chateaus and kayak in the La Creuse river. The bikes Dave and Patience offer for use have enough gears to overcome the hills in the area. We went almost every morning by bike to the boulangerie in Petite Pressigny or La Celle Guenand. We also did the beautiful cycle tour to Grand Pressigny.
The wine tasting evening under guidance of Martin and Liz, where we met the family of Dave and Patience and the other guests, will last as a very nice memory. Even a thunderstorm could not stop the barbeque and the happy mood.
Dave and Patience are very dedicated to their guest and made us feel very much at home. Thank you so much!
Arriving in the locality is already a pleasure, fields and sunflowers as far as the eye can see. We knew as soon as we parked the car that we were in a peaceful and relaxing place. There was a very warm welcome awaiting us as we were shown to our cute little gite, le pigeonnier. The gite was immaculately clean and well equipped. The bed itself deserves a special mention - how we slept well every night! We enjoyed the gardens, the pool, barbecues with the owners and a wine tasting event one evening. Loches, Chinon and Azay-le-Rideau were all worth the drive for sight seeing and market shopping. We can't wait to return.
La Richardiere is well-placed for visitors wishing to soak up the beauty and heritage of the Loire region. As well as numerous pretty villages within a few minutes drive of our location, we also have many historic towns within easy reach.
Loches is a pretty, vibrant town just 25 minutes from La Richardière. The Logis Royal, which dates back to the Renaissance, overlooks the town from its hilltop position and is well worth a visit. On Wednesday mornings the historic town centre is filled by one of the loveliest markets in the Touraine.
Also, close at hand, is the town of Descartes. Birthplace of the famous philosopher and mathematician Rene Descartes. There is a museum dedicated to him in the very house in which he was born. For outdoor activities, visit the Parc de Loisir where you will find a park for smaller children, mini golf, several petanque courts, the local outdoor swimming pool, pretty gardens and the Canoe-Kayak club.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors, the area is criss-crossed with many kilometres of footpaths through countryside and forest and cycle routes which follow the banks of the rivers Loire and Indre. La Richardière is also just a few kilometres away from the Brenne Natural Parc. Dotted with over one thousand lakes this is an exceptional location for both bird and plant life and home to wild boar, roe and red deer. There is much to do within the Parc area including walking, cycling, watersports at Bellebouche lake, bird and wildlife watching.
Throughout the region there are chateaux great and small within easy reach of La Richardiere. Both Amboise and Chenonceau are fascinating for day visits and, through the summer months, stage dramatic and engaging 'son et lumiere' shows in the evenings. A visit to Chateau du Chinon can be combined with a visit to the vibrant market held by the riverbanks on Thursdays. Chateau du Rivau is enchanting for adults and children alike whilst Villandry boasts exceptionally beautiful gardens. This is but a sample of the many Chateaus you may choose to visit.
In complete contrast to the oppulent chateaux are the fascinating cave dwellings which can be visited at 'La Vallee Troglodytique des Goupillieres' between Tours and Chinon and at the 'Ethni'Cite', St.Remy-sur-Creuse, close to Descartes.
Further attractions to occupy all the family can be found at the Zoo Parc Beauval, Futuroscope (just outside Poitiers) and in the regional capital of Tours.
