About the property

2 Bedrooms, Sleeps Up To 6 People With Large Garden, O,ly 20 Mins From The Beach

The coach house was built in 1834 to serve the local chateau, of which a tower remains. It became a barn for the local farmer after the war and was converted 25 years ago into two adjoining houses with the original features being retained where possible.

The coach house sits in 1000m2 of lawned garden, and has a large kitchen-diner and a sitting room each of which have their own terrace. There are two bedrooms upstairs and the downstairs sitting room has a sofa bed so can serve as a third bedroom.

Together with the tower of the old chateaux, now a family home, and an ancient converted barn opposite, the Coach House forms a secluded compound near the centre of a working village.

The Coach House is twenty minutes from the coast and and beaches, and from the historic port town of Dieppe, with its harbour and marina, shops, restaurants, museum and beach. On Saturday mornings Dieppe boasts one of France's greatest street markets.

It is set in beautiful rolling countryside ideal for walking and cycling. It is five minutes from the Avenue Verte, a long-distance cycle route that runs from London to Paris. It is the centre for a number of Grand Randonees - hiking routes and close to the magnificent forest of Eawy.

The adjoining property is sometimes available - it sleeps 6 and has three bedrooms and a large living-dining-kitchen. Prices and availability by request.

The Normandy region

The countryside around St Vaast was the market garden for Paris. Well served by railways, the immediate area became the weekend retreat for wealthy Parisians who built grand houses including Bois de Moutiers designed by Lutyens house with garden by Getrude Jekyll and Chateau de Miromesniel, the home of Guy de Maupassant.

Dieppe is the closest port to Paris and has been for centuries the haunt for writers and artists in retreat from Paris and London, the most notable being Oscar Wilde. Dieppe's Saturday market is reputed to be the best in northern France and the shops are excellent. The town is well served by restaurants, particularly around the picturesque inner harbour.

The countryside is charming with chalk hills cut with wooded deep valleys with several large and ancient beech forests. The area is predominantly agricultural dotted with villages with the Pays de Bray being the centre for dairy products and the famous cheese Neufchatel being the oldest cheese in Normandy dating back 11th century. There are numerous footpaths and small lanes crossing the area making it ideal for country pursuits.

The coast is half and hour away and there are a range of beach resorts from bay of the Somme to the mouth of the Seine. For rainy days, there is a large aquatic centre and spa in Dieppe.

Saint Vaast d'Equiqueville

St Vaast is centrally located between Dieppe and the market town of Neufchatel, famous for its local cheese. The village is on the Avenue Verte, a long distance cycle and walking path which will one day link Paris to London. It is excellent walking territory and is also central to a number of Grande Randonees.

St Vaast is a working village with a vibrant community. There are two bakers, a village shop and adjoining bar, post office, primary school, tennis courts.
