Mezieres-sur-Issoirs is a large village close Bellac on the road to Confolens. It has a small super market with a coffee and bar area, a bakery, a chemist, a post office, a bank with cash dispenser, together with 2 restaurants which are open for lunch. There is also a large sports area / park. The house is located set back off the Church square so all are within walking distance of our house. Bellac is just 7 kilometres away with 2 bigger supermarkets, shops and cafes and restaurants
The area is famous for its sheep and the sheep market is held in the town. In celebration there are a number sculptures of sheep around the village some of which in the half light of evening look quite real!
Meziers-sur-Issoirs is in rural area located in the Haute Vienne department of the Limousin region of France. Just a short distance the granite hills of the Pays des Monts de Blond dotted with hamlets and small villages, walking trails and both large and small lakes and rivers and interesting and pretty medieval towns to visit.
If you are into the history of WW2. The small town Oradour-sur-Glane is not far away with its heart breaking ruins. It has been left exactly as it was after the Germans killed all the inhabitants and destroyed the buildings.
There are 2 golf courses in the area. The nearest being about 15 minutes away on the edge of Mortmart, it is only 9 holes but I can assure you it is not easy. It has a very pleasant club house where you can buy light lunches and the usual drinks. The other course is some half hour away near St Junien.
Enjoy walking? Interested in Megaliths? There are plenty of foot paths and many lead you to amazing Megalith formations. These are all sign posted and easy to find.
Other possible leisure pursuits in the region are fishing and bird watching.
Places of interest
Mortmart is close by and is listed as one of the prettiest villages of France and is also worth a visit for it old church and Chateau des Ducs. There are two restaurants, a very up market hotel serving extremely good food and wine, the other a more down to earth restaurant offering a good medium priced menu. During the summer months it is possible to make a pony a trap ride around the area.
The Chateau du Fraisse on the road just outside Mezieres is worth a visit but is only open during the summer months.
Along the river Vienne are several towns of interest with Confolens being the largest.
Montmorillion, the town famous for its books and printing, is on the Gartempe and worth a visit for its art galleries and old book shops besides the old medieval buildings. The nearest town, Bellac is picturesque as well as having a wider range of shops and Limoges is 40 minutes away.
The main part of the house is a typical French house, thick walls, shuttered windows, chestnut wood flooring and staircase. The open plan kitchen, dining, sitting room is a modern barn conversion. There are 2 wood burners to keep you cosy in the winter. Two sets of double French windows on to the secluded suntrap garden for summer living. There are 2 bedrooms each on the first and top floor. The 2 bedrooms on the top floor share a bathroom. The main bedroom on the first floor has an en suit bathroom and there is a shower room on the ground floor. The whole house has just been refurbished and offers a comfortable living space with plenty of room and all the comforts of a home from home. Dishwasher, Washing machine, Oven and hob. Large fridge-freezer are provided indoors and a gas barbeque in the garden. Plenty of garden furniture and sun loungers with a sun umbrella. There is also internet connection for those who cannot bear to be out of touch. Plus of course sky television.
The house has no disabled access and is unsuitable for small children as the windows on the top floor are at floor level and pose a hazard if open.
There is parking for one possibly two small cars on the property but there is ample free parking in the church square which no more than 40 yards from our front door.
Mike is a well known artist and we also run painting schools from here when it is not being let.
I am Suzie and I am a potter. we both love France and found this house so that Mike would be able to spend more time painting the beautiful landscapes, villages and towns in this region. We would both love to live here all year round but exhibitions and commissions in England mean that we have to spend time there. so we decided to let the property to others so they could enjoy it while we are away.
Suzie Hall purchased this house in 2013
This house combines the old style French house and the and modern and up to date kitchen / dinning area. It is very central to the lovely the lovely Limousin area and close enough to Limoges for cultural pursuits and of course the airport. There is a rail link in Bellac so one can travel around France to the big cities and not have to worry about busy streets and parking.
It was the conversion on the back of the house that made up our mind to buy this property. The feeling of space , comfort and the ability to have visitors around you but not under your feet when you are in the kitchen makes this a special room
The house is typically French on the outside, but inside it is a blend of old and newly renovated.
Four lovely bedrooms, all extremely comfortable with everything you need.
Well equipped modern kitchen, and large dining table/ living area, which opens up to a lovely garden, definitely a suntrap, at the rear!!!!
Plenty of garden furniture, gas barbecue, and very private.
A lovely experience, lots of information left for us to read through about the surrounding areas, and thoughtful touches like a picnic basket, folding table and chairs left for our use also.
Also essential items like fresh milk etc, left for us in the fridge.
Suzie was extremely personable and easily contacted when I had any queries etc.
I would highly recommend this property.
