We stayed for 18 days in January and really enjoyed the house. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. I would suggest maybe a blind on the patio doors as the afternoon sun was pretty bright and bit annoying if you were inside. The living rooms seating was a bit awkward as the futon does fold up so it's a big bed with pillows but we weren't inside that much and made due. The kitchen was equipped well and washer and dryer was nice also . Our overall experience was great and we are already booked for February 2018. The nightly sunsets are amazing as well as morning coffee watching the whales. Can't go wrong with this one!
What a great place for a relaxing vacation; private and ocean front! Beautiful home with everything we needed to enjoy the beach and our time just relaxing together. We loved being able to prepare meals which included lots of fresh, farm stand fruits and veggies. It was convenient - within walking distance - of groceries, coffee shops, shopping, and great variety of restaurant choices. Our days typically began on the beach and ended watching sunset from the deck. We could hear the surf and waves day and night, listened to a chorus of birds welcoming each day, saw turtles in the ocean just out the back door, took long walks along the beach in both directions from "home", and used the Maui guide books on the shelf to plan site-seeing activities. This was our first trip to Maui or any of the Hawaiian Islands and I think we are "hooked"! Thank you so much.
This place has everything you need and more. Clearly an away home for the owners. You almost feel like you know them. Everyone I dealt with was very responsive and very nice. In spite of the reviews about the homeless in the empty lot, they were never a problem or bothered us. Security comes through every day. Secluded out of the way of tourists and big resorts. Practically your own private home. Luckily our neighbors next door were super nice. I could see how that could be problematic. Your close to everything. Try the Flyin Hawaiian zip line while your there. They bought the land above the Maui tropical plantation to stop developers. Locals don't want to live in another Honolulu. I like Oahu a lot but I love Maui. The plantation is another must see.
The pictures posted on the VRBO site are pretty accurate but like most pictures they just don't do it justice. This was my ninth time to Maui and Papa Ouli's was by far the best place I've stayed.
Go to MonkeyPod to eat. Note to the homeowner...Blinds on the upstairs bedroom sunrise window. I hope they're there when I go back. Thanks for the memories.
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We were expecting a lot and this rental met and exceeded our expectations. We didn't have issues with homeless as previous renters did, though they were on the beach.
We cooked several times and the rental had all the necessary tools. They also have beach towels for use, which was a big help as we didn't have room in our suitcases for these.
Overall this was a great place to stay. Can't wait to come back!
I have stayed on Maui at various places over the last forty years and none match the beauty and peacefulness of Papa Ouli's location. A true beachfront property and the perfect retreat for anyone or any family. Highly recommended for those who value long walks on the beach, whale and turtle watching and spectacular sunsets.
Pros - Nice location right on the beach close to shopping and restaurants. Beach is not crowded. The home is spacious and quiet. Great views of the ocean, sunset, whales, and turtles.
Cons - As with previous guests, we had issues with the homeless, almost on a daily basis. Sometimes they camped overnight on the property, sometimes they ate dinner by the patio and left behind food and garbage. Peggy was responsive to the issue, but in the end we were instructed to call the police when we saw them. The unit does not have any beach accessories (chairs, water boards, toys, etc.) so be prepared to purchase your own. The unit is also in need of a little upkeep: doors/windows that do not lock, broken chair, lizards running around inside leaving droppings, general wear and tear stuff.
