Stunning peaceful location. Beautiful cabin

  • 5 of 5

We went to the cabin for a 4 night break and just loved it. David the owner was helpful from the minute we booked and gave us lots of tips about the local area. The cabin itself is everything you could want, log burning fire, comfy beds, lots of space and above all peace and quiet. The drive there was pretty amazing with magnificent views around every turn of the road. We were able to hire bikes locally and the food in the nearby restaurant is just what you want after a day exploring. Can't wait to go back to the Cabin again.

Holzhäuschen im Nirgendwo

  • 3 of 5

Nettes Holzhäuschen sauber und alles vorhanden. Bequemes Wohnzimmer. Betten in Ordnung.

The following facilities are available within the cabin site or adjacent village of Dalavich:

•Coin operated laundry at Community Centre by southern site entrance.

•Boat launch facility on site for exclusive use of cabin guests.

•Boat hire available from Loch Aweside Marine in the village (no 11) .

•Free fishing from 3 designated areas of shore within site and anywhere on Loch Awe from a boat.

•Bike hire available from Loch Aweside Bike Hire at The Bike shed by Community centre.

•Loch View Bar & Grill by south entrance to site. Great food and friendly community run bar. Opening times vary according to time of year. We cannot guarantee opening hours during low season, so please confirm before booking.

•Wild Rowan shop / cafe / part time Post Office. Provides good food & supplies basic provisions, in a very friendly atmosphere. Also sells fishing permits, fishing tackle, outdoor & BBQ equipment.

•Dalavich Social Club organise many functions within the wonderful Community Centre building.

The area surrounding Loch Awe Forest Cabins is a beautiful and unspoiled environment which offers a wide range of activities and things to do, such as:

The area is fantastic for walkers with access to some breaktaking scenery and wildlife habitat. The Forestry Comission manage and promote numerous sign posted routes in the area and for the more adventurous there are limitless footpaths & forestry tracks which are open to the public (unless logging operations in progress). The area is a paradise for dog walkers and dogs are welcome in our cabins.

As for walkers there are numerous sign posted routes and endless footpaths & tracks for cyclists in the area. Bike hire is available at “The Bike Shed” in Dalavich.

The area has, we believe, an unrivalled abundance of wildlife. The area has a very healthy population of Red Squirrels, which are frequently seen around the site. Pine Marten are also common in the area and can often be enticed onto verandas of forest cabins at night by an offering of bread and jam or honey. Golden Eagle and of late White tailed Sea Eagles nest nearby and can occasionally be seen flying high over head. In 2014 three pairs of Ospreys nested within 3 miles of the site and were easily viewed on the nest near Mackenzies Grove car park. We also have Otters, Red Deer, Roe Deer, Sika Deer, Fox, Beaver (Knapdale), Scottish Wild Cat, Wild Boar (several unconfirmed sightings), many woodland birds and waterfowl and even the infamous Kilchrennan black cat in the area.

Loch Awe is an amazing location for boating, with numerous bays, Cranogs, rivers and islands to explore. Whether you launch your own motor boat or canoe from our launch facility or hire a boat from Loch Awe Marine in the village there will be lots to see and do. Why not take a BBQ or picnic across at Innisconnel Castle island.

The area offers some of the best wild fishing in Scotland. Loch Awe holds the current (and previous two) record for the largest brown trout caught in the British Isles and is renowned for its monster pike and has growing numbers of Atlantic Salmon, Sea Trout & Charr. Loch Avich, the rivers Orchy and Awe and a multitude of mountain lochans also provide excellent fishing, permits for which can also be purchased locally.

There are 4 castles as well as many ruins & Crannogs (off shore man made stone islands for settlements) to explore around Loch Awe. Kilchurn Castle, ancestral seat of the Campbell Clan, is the most iconic and arguably the most stunning castle in Scotland. In addition to this you have Fraoch Eilean, Innisconnel, and Fincharn castles to find and explore. Innisconnel is a beautiful, mystic ruin on a small island (accessible by boat), across the loch from Dalavich. A must do trip for a BBQ or picnic!

And Further Afield…

Our log cabins are ideally located to explore the highlands and islands of the west coast of Scotland. There are many attractions within a short drive from Dalavich. To follow is a list of local attractions that we would recommend visiting. For contact details please go to our “useful links” page:

•Oban – Nearest large town, approx 23 miles away. Often referred to as the gateway to the Isles, from where ferries sail to Mull, Iona, Staff

Seafari & Sealife Adventures both do excellent sight seeing, wildlife and whale watching trips from Seal Island, near Oban.

•Cruachan hollow mountain power station. 40 minutes from Dalavich, a great tour around the workings of the hydro power station within the mountain. Good trip for a rainy day.

•Oban Sea Life Centre and Seal Sanctuary. Approx 45 mins from Dalavich. A great day out for all the family.

•Loch Awe Smokery, near Taynuilt. Fun trip and good food.

•Kilmartin House Museum. Find out more about the areas history & archaeology. Award winning restaurant.

•Inverary Castle and Jail.

•Glencoe, Fort William & Ben Nevis are also close enough for a day trip.

•Horse Riding at Achnalarig Farm And Stables, Glencruitten, Nr Oban.
