La Grange is a comfortable gîte which sleeps up to four people. There is a double bed in the master bedroom and two single beds in another large upstairs room which can double for sitting and sleeping. Downstairs is a large sitting / dining room with a fully equipped kitchen in one corner.
The gîte is set in an extensive garden with an orchard in a quiet commune about half an hour by car to the east of Tours, very close to the chateau of Chenonceau. It is an ideal base for cycling, walking, birdwatching - or just doing nothing!
Pets are normally welcome, please discuss it with us.
La Grange is a non-smoking gîte.
WiFi Internet access is available.
To visit our own web site, please use the link at the bottom of this page, just underneath 'Facilities'.
If you'd like to be pampered, we can offer catering - a meal when you arrive, breakfast before you leave, dinner one evening?
We bought a house here some 20 years ago, but we came to live here full time in 2011. Early on we converted the remains of the farm buildings into a comfortable gîte, when you visit you can look through the photos we took during the conversion.
We enjoy the climate and the countryside, I'd like to say we enjoy the gardening too, but weeding loses its appeal after a while!
Over the years I've planted around 70 fruit trees so now we are flooded with fruit during the summer. We make a lot of jam with it which you can buy when you visit.
We have a very wide range of interests, food and wine of course - and I enjoy cooking so if you'd like to be pampered I'd be happy to offer table d'hôte now and then, but also psychology and philosophy - we value the distance learning offered by organisations like coursera.
We originally met through a shared interest in dance when we were living in Holland, although these days we watch it more often than do it ourselves.
Keith Parr purchased this house in 1991
I was looking for a property in the Loire valley for a mixture of reasons: it had to be within reasonable driving distance of Holland, quiet, green (lots of trees, we're surrounded by woods here), in a wine growing region, and in an area with lots of history.
Why this property? Well, that's a long story. I visited an estate agent here and after he had gone through a pile of what he felt were likely properties only to have them all rejected, he made one last effort with one that he felt sure wouldn't suit us at all. Maybe he was just a good psychologist because, of course, that was this house which we fell for at first sight!
Location, location, and location. And it's a lovely house and garden, of course! In the middle of one of the best wine growing regions of France, roughly halfway between Sancerre and Chinon / Bourgueil and within an easy drive to many of the most famous chateaux of France the house is an ideal base for wine lovers and history buffs. There's lots of good walking and cycling, and lots of wildlife. At this time of year (autumn) the red squirrels are busy collecting our walnuts and hazelnuts before we can get to them, and we regularly see deer in the garden and orchard.
And if you want to sit out in the garden and just relax then there's plenty of choice - in the sun or in the shade.
Prachtige natuurschoon, eekhoorntjes die als acrobaten in de tuin rondrennen;
Beeldig aangelegde rotondes en hanging baskets in de dorpjes.
Kortom een echt aanrader.
The property is located in a wonderfully quiet part of the Loire et Cher valley. Château de Chenonceau and Château de Montpoupon are a short drive away so not completely isolated.
Keith & Joke the owners live next door, but you would never know, they were on hand if needed but respectfully distant. However we got a lot of fantastic local information from them, in the welcome pack, especially their reccomendations on purchasing wine from the local independant producers.
The house is adequate with all your essential needs covered and plenty to read in both English and Dutch. When we where the there the weather didn't allow us to enjoy the garden much in the evening, but I can imagine it would be a dream in the warmer season.
If I was picky, the only thing I missed was a salad spinner..... : )
Within a 30m radius there is plenty to see and do, something for everyone, you will not get bored.
Quiet rural location within easy reach of many of the best chateaux. The area is very beautiful in the Autumn and there is plenty to see and do, even out of season, with the bonus of less tourists on the roads!
Keith was very accommodating when we requested a short stay and provided a low key, we're here if you need us, presence throughout our stay. He even offered to get some shopping for us as we were arriving on a Sunday.
We had a great holiday at La Grange - the cottage is both cosy and roomy and in spite of some coldish snaps we were always comfortable. In addition our two dogs absolutely loved it - there are lovely walks straight out of the door where they could be off their leads and run. It's a really good centre for this area of the Loire and Cher with Chenonceaux, Montpoupon and many other chateaux within minutes of the Gite plus numerous other riverside villages and wineries nearby. We'll be back!
La Grange is hidden away in the most tranquil of settings. If you want peace and quiet, then this is the place.
The gite was as described on the web pages, was well presented, clean and all the mod-cons and equipment you'd expect. It lived up to our expectation, we felt really at home there.
Keith and Joke were there to greet us and made us feel most welcome after the long drive. Keith brought a few essentials for a coffee and for breakfast for us.
The garden and orchard are very well maintained and we were allowed to go pick a little fruit each morning for our breakfast.
The gite is within easy striking distance of the many chateaux along the Loire valley. Chenonceau and Usse are 'must sees'.
We hired cycles for a day from the Canoe Company based in Civray-en-Touraine and went as far as Montrichard along the banks of the river Cher.
A holiday to remember, we loved everything about the gite, the location and the holiday in general.
I'd highly recommend the gite. We will almost certainly be back.

I have been renting in the Loire Valley for the past 8 years. I stayed at la Grange for the first time this summer (2015) for 3 weeks, from the end of July to mid-August, and this was by far the best place I’ve stayed at to date. It’s simple, rustic, extremely comfortable and has all the amenities you could ask for, and I love to cook. The house has a large front yard for relaxation and outdoor eating or just listening to the silence. It also overlooks an orchard (yummy!). I was concerned about the proximity of the hosts’ house, but that was not an issue as it was angled in a different direction from la grange. Also, Keith and Yoke are very discrete, besides being helpful and gracious hosts. I was truly at home!
It is located on a rural country road, with hardly any traffic, but at close proximity to the castles, wineries and the lovely towns and villages like Loches, Montrichard, among others.
I had a lovely time, un-wound and re-charged my batteries.
Thank you Keith! Thank you Yoke!
We (2 kids, 2 parents) visited the Loire Valley for the first time and were impressed by the beauty of the attractions in the region. However, at the end of each day, when our feet hurt from walking we were loved the thought of returning home to Keith and Joke's lovely house in the quiet country-side. It is the perfect place to discover the Loire-Valley, within short driving range to all major Chateaus and historical cities. The house has everything you need to feel cosy and it would be alone a valid reason for a great vacation in France.
Many thanks to Keith and Joke for their hospitality. We are looking forward to repeat this perfect vacation sometime in the future.
La Grange nestles in the Loire valley, one of the best known, and best loved, of the wine growing regions of France.
The Loire valley is also known as the playground of the kings of France, the area they chose to come to relax with their courts. Their legacy is countless castles (chateaux) which our guests love to visit.
From the windows of the gite you look directly into our orchard with 70 or so fruit trees, and you are welcome to pick the fruit when it's ripe. The chances are also good that you’ll see deer and red squirrels in the garden.

Although the table shows the prices as "from", these are simply the prices, we don't charge extras.
If you would like to stay in the low season but would prefer to arrive mid-week or stay for more or less than 7 days, please get in touch, we should be able to work something out!
Should you need central heating, that's included in the price too.
We require a non-refundable deposit of 10% of the total rental amount to make a reservation, as soon as this is received the reservation will be confirmed. We then ask that the balance of the rental amount is paid at least four weeks before you arrive at the gite.
We prefer to receive payments by bank transfer, but if that's difficult we will try and find a mutually acceptable alternative.
