I've been living in Western Washington state for most of the last 30 years. In my family, we've always loved the feel of islands. In the summer, my siblings and I all live surrounded by water in places as various as eastern Canada and the Big Island of Hawaii. For me there's no place better than Vashon.
Owner purchased this Cottage in 1989
Why Owner chose Vashon
When I first set foot on the property a friend was living here. As I sat on the steps going down to the water, soaking up the sun, breathing in the sea air and taking in the view, I thought the spot an absolutely perfect getaway. I still do. And our guests always remind us about just how special it really is.
What makes this Cottage unique
Lots of beautiful outdoor spaces--some of which are very private.

Clam Cove Stay
Phenomenal place, wonderful location, easy ferry access. Great host!! Very communicative and complete in his descriptions, directions and suggestions. Decks are amazing!! We will book again.
Our time at the cottage and on Vashon was a true vacation for my husband and I! We explored the area and ventured into Seattle but always looked forward to getting back to the deck and enjoying the amazing view!
Comfortable rustic cottage
Host greeted us and was very personable. Instructions were all very clear regarding the property. Guests need to remember the age of the property and that some "modern conveniences" are retrofit or minimal. Multiple outside patios, etc. provide an excellent outdoor experience. Very close to the Tacoma ferry, so very efficient. Guests need to be able to comfortably navigate stairs from street side parking to the residence and from the residence to waterfront.
We are glad Joan enjoyed our charming seaside cottage, originally built for a ferry captain in the mid-20th century and now updated without compromising its charm. The house is wonderfully private from the street above as you walk down 18 steps from where you park to the front door of the cottage. The two principal decks at the side of the house are also wonderfully private with great views of the sea, wildlife and the ferry on it's hourly run between Vashon and Pt Defiance during the day.
Serenity on the Sound
Beautiful, clean well equipped house (more than a cabin). Nature was on parade out the living room window including a bald eagle which seemed to hang out three trees east of the house.
The bed is a good pillowtop and a delight to sleep on. Plenty of info was available about the house, the town and possible activities. One minor drawback is the beach is quite uneven and difficult to walk on.
We will stay again.
Our cobble stone beach can be strolled at low tide. It can be walked in athletic shoes (or you may prefer hiking shoes for greater ankle support). As you walk east on the beach the stones become finer until—in about a third mile—the beach becomes sandy.
Place was great
Very relaxing and much needed R&R. Place was exactly what was described
A Relaxing Oasis
Very easy going from the moment we checked in to having to check out. The cottage was welcoming, clean and well organized with amazing views out every window. Great location with the ferry only steps away and town just down the road. Could see coming back time and time again.
Vashon Island is known for its arts & crafts and locavore (local food) movement. Characterized by a long New York Times article (March 30, 2012 Travel section) as a sort of 'Mayberry meets Burning Man' kind of place. Vashon never fails to surprise and delight in its cultural & lifestyle diversity!
