About this property

The Hill: guesthouse with views surrounded by nature

The best of both worlds: Truly off the beaten path and completely surrounded by nature, yet near to just about everything. Enjoy a private space in an historic 1804 colonial farmhouse surrounded by the mountain views, miles of trails, peace and natural beauty of our 140 acre rural retreat in the White Mountains of N.H.
This is a rustic old Colonial house- full of history and character. In the back yard there is an outdoor dining table and chairs for your use alone. The guest space is entered through a private door from the back yard, into a private entryway with space for shoes, coats, sports gear, etc. and a sitting area. There are guide books and books of local interest, puzzles, and toys. The first bedroom has one queen and one twin bed, closet and drawer space to store your clothes and belongings, and a coffee and tea service. The one bathroom is off of this bedroom. The second bedroom has a beautiful queen sized canopy bed and a twin bed, with an antique settee and slipper chair for lounging. Both bedrooms have block out curtains. There are plenty of extra blankets and quilts for chilly nights. The basic bathroom which is accessed through the first bedroom has a high-pressure shower, toilet, sink and cupboard for storage. Our bed and bath linens are of high quality natural materials. The entire space is furnished with authentic period antique furniture, antique hand made and oriental rugs, and decorated with plenty of original New England artwork.
You may see signs of restoration and renovation, as this place is a big work in progress.
This is an old house in the country- no make up mirror, sometimes spotty internet, only a few outlets, and plenty of creaks and sounds- the true character of an old house. Though you will feel "away from it all" in a classic New England home, you will be just a few minutes away from the world class dining, shopping and recreation of North Conway and the White Mountains. And, some of the areas best beaches and restaurants are literally around the corner. Come and enjoy the natural beauty and peace and quiet of our mountain retreat.

Great overnight stay
My band played a gig just over the border in Maine, so we stayed the night here. It was perfect for us! The property was quiet and the owner was very personable. We hope to visit again soon!

Straight out of chainsaw massacre
Property was NOT at all what was advertised. Advertisment said 3 bedroom guest house, child friendly, with toys and activities for children. Property was trashed, cars everywhere from atleast 4 different states, there was an entry and 2 "bedrooms", door didn't lock, no TV, there was a door that went into another room that there's was someone in and we couldn't lock from our side, no lighting outside by the path, it smelt musty, someone walking around outside in the woods. This place was literly something out of chainsaw massacre or children of the corn, we were there all of about 30 minutes and we packed up and left, we didn't go on vacation to potentially be murdered, buried in the back yard and never return home

Was supposed to be renting Friday and Saturday night. Went to go inside, door was open which we were told it would be and there were no keys on the coat rack where they should have been. The place stunk so bad of mold/mustiness that I started to get a bad headache and my partner couldn't stand the smell. We decided we couldn't even stay there but there was hardly any phone signal to call the hosts and tell them about the condition of the place. I felt very uncomfortable, especially with the key missing. When we were putting our stuff back in our car, I saw a person on the property, in the woods. We got in our cars as fast as we could and left. By this time, it was about 9pm. We had to drive to get service so I could call the owners. Owner was rude and offered no refund. "Well that's never happened before" was the reply I got when I said we couldn't stay. Okay, not my problem. Not only did I lose that money, I had to pay a ridiculous amount for another hotel last minute and we had to cut our vacation short because I could only afford one night at the prices they were charging at peak weekend rates, not to mention calling around for 45 minutes with spotty signal when mostly everything was booked. We had drove from out of state and we were tired and very unhappy. Owner was not helpful at all. Place was moldy. Looked like someone had broke in and stole the key she said would be there. Be careful IF you are brave enough to stay here and have money to throw away.

I grew up in Wolfeboro, N.H. on Lake Winnipesaukee. I attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Skidmore College. I am a mother of three, avid world traveler, life long learner, adventurer and enthusiast of music, food, art, nature, and all peoples and cultures.

Why they chose this property

I grew up in NH and after having my first child in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado I wanted to move back east closer to family. I was looking for a fixer upper old farmhouse and barn on plenty of beautiful land..... this was the place!

What makes this property unique

Views, peace and quiet, 140 acres of mountain trails, fields, forest, streams, endless tranquility and natural space to enjoy.
