Fantastic place in a lovely location, the barn has everything you could possibly need for your stay.

The whole family went to celebrate my husband 60th birthday we had a fantastic time at the barn, the grandchildren enjoyed the garden and had great fun kicking a ball around and playing with all the games that are provided. The barn is in a lovely location with very rural views. The barn has everything you could possibly need while away from home I think they have thought of everything, would definitely recommend the only thing we weren't too keen on was the water bed but the youngsters slept in it.

Spacious, friendly, sociable house

  • 4 of 5

Nine of Us stayed here for a family holiday with ages ranging from 7-76. The cottage was well stocked and managed to be warm and cosy and yet spacious enough for us to have our space. The waterbed was not really for us but the furnishings were of high quality. The kitchen was huge! We really enjoyed the outside BBQ and thought the fire pit was one of the best we had seen. Good parking and a lovely secluded location, however only a short drive from wonderful heritage attractions. The 'local shop' sold everything....we were amazed. Be careful using the master bedroom ensuite shower door. As seasoned cottage goers we would highly recommend this place, with its lovely views and it's apple trees... perfect for summer but with its large double sided fireplace and it's generous selection of books, games and dvd's I'm sure it would be a fab place to hide away whatever the weather

Modern, well equipped, car required

  • 4 of 5

Overall our stay at The Barn met with our expectations, even if the weather didn't! I don't think that repeating the generally positive reviews of other guests archives a great deal, but I would like to comment on location and cleanliness.

A car is absolutely essential if staying here since the nearest village is 2 miles away along winding, unlit country lanes that would be hazardous to walk along at night. The nearest pub is The Keys, which is located in the centre of the village and cannot be rated highly enough.

Concerning cleanliness, a previous visitor commented on the fact that the building, especially the kitchen, needed a deep clean. We would echo this opinion up to a point. It is not as though it is major problem, more the fact that the contract cleaners cannot adequately clean a large building such as this in a five hour change over period whilst attending to the more time consuming tasks. No doubt the owners will read this, so our suggestion is that the oven and microwave are specifically included in the cleaning schedule.

Beautiful, spacious property in the countryside

  • 4 of 5

The Barn is a fantastic property with ample space for 10 comfortably. With its enclosed boundary it is perfect for young families and dog owners. The bedrooms are spacious although the waterbed in the master bedroom may not be to everyone's taste. There are two ensuites, a family bathroom and two separate toilets that have all the essential features however there were a few leaks which we notified the owners of.

The kitchen is large and well appointed and the only snag was the two slice toaster which isn't sufficient when catering for 10.

The downstairs space is fantastic with plenty of room and ample comfortable seating with doors which open out onto a lovely patio area with BBQ and log burner. The kids and dog we brought thoroughly enjoyed the enclosed garden with its apple trees and boundaries to a field filled with sheep.

The location was amazing with a 7 minute drive to the nearest supermarket and easy access to plenty of walks and days out. Take note of the driving instructions sent by the owners as there is one approach road to the property that is a very hairy drive up a steep lane. The other two routes are much easier.

All in all the property is worth the money however if we are really honest it could do with a deep clean and good hoover and some hand soaps in the bathroom would have been a welcome addition however we easily rectified this with a trip to the local shops.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your stay. You are correct The Barn really is perfect for multi generational families and the location provides much to do. I am glad you enjoyed the new BBQ area and fire pit, we only extended the patio last year and have really enjoyed the extra facilities ourselves its good to hear the guests enjoy them also. I am glad you found the directions I provide useful, Sat Nav's are not always correct so it is critical that guests follow our guidance. I am sorry though that you did not find everything quite as it should have been, our caretaker was away and a stand in did the change over, I will take up your issues with the stand in to ensure that this situation does not happen again. There can be no excuse on our part this should not happen. I also note the comment regarding the toaster, the next time we buy one I will ensure it can toast 4 slices at once.

We had a lovely time at the Barn near St-Martins. Fantastic kitchen (except the terrible coffee-maker and the lacj of tea-towels). Otherwise everything you'll ever need is there. The living room is also perfect, even for a group of 10. I also liked the fact that the property has a fence all around meaning that my dog could happily enjoy the garden without a posibility of escape!

Overall we are very, very happy with this rental and we wil definitely return in the near future. Thumbs up!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review I am glad you enjoyed The Barn. Thanks for letting me know the coffee maker is poor, this is something we can miss if we do not use it ourselves and we will look to replace it. Will ask the caretaker to leave out more tea towels in future.

A lovely escape

  • 5 of 5

This barn is a lovely getaway for a large family. We celebrated my Dad's 50th there, and had a warm weekend despite the freezing temperatures outside. It is in the middle of nowhere, but close to supplies and amenities. I took my nephew for a short walk and we saw sheep, cows, horses and tractors which are awesome for city children! The house is well equipped for cooking, with DVDs, toys and with a lovely book corner.
